SNIP President Joe Biden just received an opportunity to nominate his first justice to the Supreme Court, and a major test of his ability to navigate the U.S. Senate: Justice Stephen Breyer, 82, is set to retire at the end of this term. Breyer has served on the Court for 27 years. He was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1994 in a nomination process overseen by Biden, then the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He’s considered the oldest of the Court’s liberal wing, which also includes Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. ENDSNIP https://www.yahoo.com/news/stephen-breyer-retire-supreme-court-170637470.html Job well done, sir... it's not his fault the court was recently corrupted. Enjoy your golden years, knowing you did the right thing. I guess this means our first black female SCOTUS? Oprah?
How about the most qualified person. Why does their skin color even come into play? If they happen to be female and the most qualified, go for it. If they happen to be Black and most qualified, go for it. Physical characteristics are secondary, NOT primary.
Promise made.... promise kept? T**** didn't... why should Biden? Judge Brown Jackson is completely qualified.... and young...
He's a she.... this is the odds on favorite... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketanji_Brown_Jackson But I like that thinking.... can we nominate a newborn?? Senator Kennedy would have somebody to talk to during the hearings....
Ho ho ho I cant wait to see what incompetent unqualified multi-checkbox White Male Christian hating Marxist piece of commie-progclown-wokejoke **** Biden is told to nominate. Republicans should block the nomination until midterms and then until Biden leaves office. Why? Revenge for Democrats trying to blow up the filibuster.
Whoever it is will be an improvement over the last 2.. bank it... Uhhh.... they can't filibuster SCOTUS anymore.... Hello??? Is this thing on???
Nobody approaches SCOTUS nominations with an open mind anymore. If they're on your team, you support them, and if they're not, you oppose them. That's just the way it is. It's not like liberals gave Gorsuch or ACB some fair, open-minded consideration. The whole thing boils down to three questions: 1) Will all 50 D senators be healthy in October? 2) Will Manchin support the nominee? 3) Will Sinema support the nominee?
Because their seats were viewed as stolen by political hackary. Of course they didn’t. Republicans have themselves to blame for the state of the court and it’s falling voter trust and support. Such a legacy. But at least y’all get to do what Democrats were accused of doing.
Biden did promise a black female judge, but it seems this is a golden opportunity to get rid of Harris by kicking her upstairs to the Court and then selecting someone as VP who will help, rather than hurt, the ticket in 2024.
I can’t speak for others, but I thought Gorsuch was qualified. I thought it was wrong for McConnell to block Garland, but other than that, Gorsuch should have had broad bipartisan support. Kavanaugh’s nomination should have been withdrawn when the revelations about him became public. Or the Senate should have rejected the nomination, on a broad bipartisan basis. ACB, again seems qualified even to this who don’t like her politics. I would have found it quite acceptable if Garland, Gorsuch and ACB had been appointed. I think McConnell’s dirty approach to blocking Garland was reprehensible, and contributed to the division of the country.
I will be standing by to be proven wrong. But will I be, seriously, will I be bx4? You and I know... I wont be. The left has already flat out said it wants to stack the bench with half a dozen far-left justices so why in the balls would they not take the chance to tally one up now?
Of course they do. When is the last time a president didn’t lose in the midterms? Will y’all support the new justice if they ram one through a week before the elections?
Not remotely the worst idea I've heard today, but she'd almost have to publicly ask for it... I don't think Joe would do it without that...... She didn't seem to hurt the ticket too badly in 2020, unless Biden could have actually won by 10M without her??
I was going to give you a "Like" until you got to specifying the gender and race of the next pick for justice. I hope that was sarcasm. Personally, I just want the SCOTUS justices to be as unbiased as possible, and adherent to nothing but constitutional law. I couldn't care less about how they look or what ethnicity they belong to. With one exception: no more Catholics, please! (Yes, that was sarcasm.)
We'll be hearing about the 7th amendment to the McConnell rule... something about when "the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter aligns with Mars", then you cannot approve a SCOTUS pick....
