Oh, I see. I am, personally, disrespecting you (I mostly stand, so not "me"," but you are not disrespecting yourself?

    LOL. Hypocrites.

As a member of the service, you are required. Didn't you serve to protect my right to free speech? Aren't there a lot of rules you have to follow when in uniform that us mere citizens have to follow?

I really need to see the rule book that says it's disrespectful. I also don't salute officers when I see one. Isn't that disrespectful, since you have to?

I can do this all day, but I quit. I've made my point.

Do you clap at home for a good performance? Otherwise, your argument makes no sense.

By the way, unless you clap at home, then you are truly the hypocrite. You call other people hypocrites for something you fail to do yourself.

It does happen, but the artists can't hear me.

The flag can't see me, though, nor hear me, nor feel anything at all about me.

You are failing to understand. Intentionally?

So many have given so much. It is publicly showing respect for them, especially those still among us. Why would anyone want to show disrespect? That is the part I do not understand.

You are signaling that one hundred year old WWII veteran that you do not appreciate what he has done for all of us.

I almost always stand for the anthem. I'm just a huge fan of freedom and choice.

    Yes, while in uniform

    Sure did

I think you meant, Don't have to follow.
    And the answer is yes

There is no such book. Its a learned family attribute and an act of character. Like saying Sir or Mam showing respect for ones elders.

Civilians don't salute officers and military members do not salute civilians. Except for the Commander in Chief

Of that I have no doubt

I will personally stand for the anthem but have not one issue with someone kneeling, sitting. That's what freedom and choice are all about and the constitution.

I consider kneeling and sitting to be disrespectful and a lack of a good up bringing.

    Exactly.

True story; I got saluted once. My brother was an officer in the Air Force, and he let me drive his car while he was doing his thing. (He trained pilots on the T-38.) So, I got saluted when driving back in. We both had a good laugh.

I always stand for the anthem. When I was a kid, I would stand when it was on television. I do sometimes clap after great stuff I see on tv.

I fully support anyone else, except for those who are required, to make their own choices.

I am proud of my upbringing. I hold the door for other people even those who are younger as most are. I say yes sir and yes mam. As I get older, I see the value in such gestures. Hopefully, it will be passed on and make a better world.

My wife had the same experience driving my truck on and off base while I was in flight school at Ft Rucker.
Normally it was new cadets that were enlisted and they were saluting my front plate Wings insignia.

Your brother was flying one of my favorite aircraft. LOVE LOVE the T-38. I thought it was the sexiest jet ever lol
    I know, weird, right.

And yes, people have every right to not stand for the anthem. I don't know how it became encapsulated with protesting police but what ever.
I was a halyard for the base flag ceremony every afternoon to take down the flag for 3 months of extra service. It was an honorary position that took a lot of preparation to enact every day. I grew up on Air Force bases as my dad was in the first graduating class of the academy. So respect for the flag and what it represents is just ingrained in me as well as my children.

And yeah, I'm one of those sentimental fools who will tear up during the anthem at a game or a race. Can't help it. Just means an awful lot to me. People who were lost during my service as well as my Dads just come to mind. I guess if you haven't been accustomed to its history or been involved with the military like you and I were, you don't really get it. Just having a family member in the service really makes you a service member as well.

I do get a bit angry inside when someone who enjoys the freedoms of this country decide to take out their particular beef with the American flag. But like you said. You serve to preserve the right of others to protest even if it means being against our flag. And I do believe that.

It's just shameful that Eminem decided to choose this time to disrespect the men and women who fought to give him the right. He has so many venues to express his opinion. He could have done it during his own show. But no he chose to do it during a time when you're supposed to be patriotic. He could have chosen a more respectful way to protest. But he chose the most despicable way.

We agree 100%. If I am particularly invested in something, I bawl my eyes out during the anthem. I recall standing (in my living room,) with Michael Phelps, when the anthem played for him. I was a swimmer in HS, so I appreciate greatness like I do with any other sport.

And, for the record, I flew the T38 into the St. Louis Arch, sand bars in Key West, FL and somewhere in the Alps. I got to play in a legit Air Force training simulator in Enid, OK, dude. OMG - I have that memory forever!!! PS. I never didn't crash. My take off to crash landings was 1:1. Expert level crasher.

    Cheers.

Pretty simple. Let others do as they wish as long as it doesn't hurt anybody else. You can do the same as long as you don't hurt anybody else. I don't watch the NFL any longer either and I mock children like Eminem which is my right as well as that of Giuliani.

So do you mock Eminem for not standing for the flag, or do you mock him because his music sucks?

I'm the latter, but I still like football. I choose not to watch any NFL talking head nor singing head BS during any halftime throughout the season.

I mock him for not standing for the anthem. I've never heard his "music" to my knowledge. I only listen to rap when I am at traffic lights. I have no idea who the performers are. Nor do I care.

Since when did the halftime show become that. He did it during the halftime show not during the national anthem.

Who is eminem? And why does his opinion even matter? Further, what has he ever done that's had a positive influence on our country?

He took a knee during the halftime show not during the national anthem.
