Exorcists are Suffering Burnout as Number of Possessed People Rises It's a rare worker who doesn't complain about burnout, but most people wouldn't lump Catholic priests into this category. However, one group of priests claim they are suffering from having too many 'customers' and not enough support from their boss - the bishops in Catholic dioceses around the world who these priests say don’t give them the backing they need to do their jobs … as exorcists. Exorcists are Suffering Burnout as Number of Possessed People Rises Is this a sign of the times? Does this suggest demonic influences may be on the rise?
Yes.... and the obsession with horror movies does open more doors to our hearts and minds than we might tend to imagine. Near death experiencer Dr. George Ritchie saw how alcoholism or drug usage can also open doors for us to be possessed. https://near-death.com/george-ritchie-nde/
Yes, it is a sign of the times. Fr. Gabriel Amorth, one of the most famous exorcists of our time predicted this years ago. You can tell when people try to turn politics into the supernatural in an attempt to try to smear both.
I give you credit for for finding an interestingly off-the-beaten-path topic. I would note, though, you did not indicate that your intro, for which I had also assumed you could be credited, was actually a SNIP from your link. Also, you did not either: A) Summarize any of the article's main points, or generally sketch its viewpoint; or B) Give your own opinion (though I know your habit is to let others wade into the waters you present, first, and then to follow behind them). This is from the beginning of the article, which is all I have, to this point, skimmed: [Snip] ”That’s obviously where a big part of the workload burnout comes from – especially in times when pandemic, war and the economy are giving people their own burnouts that can cause strange behavior. According to another attendee, researcher Luis Santamaria del Rio, many times the exorcist must first deal with others have told the person."Many of the potentially possessed people they see in Spain have spent time with New Age, spiritual or meditation groups."In addition, misinformation has caused many people infected with COVID-19 to think they’re possessed, or to believe that an exorcism can remove the disease better than medication and treatment can... [End] In short, this suggests to me that the article is not suggesting an increase in, literal, "demonic influence." It is tying this spiritual remedy to the pandemic and to the psychological stress of living under it, as well as other, troubling world events. Though I doubt the article gets into it, this could be an interesting angle from which to examine the recent upsurge in "alternative facts," news, truth-- both its origins and its impact. On what do you base that understanding? Would you, kindly, elaborate?
Today people can't even mention Trump's name without connecting it to evangelicalism and they can't mention evangelism without making up some stupid and fact free definition of what it is.
What does that have to do with Fr. Amorth's prediction? I assume this relates to what you originally had written, about people turning "politics into the supernatural, in an attempt to smear both," but even how that applies, is not clear. Those who want to "smear" Trump, do not generally think of Evangelicals as the supernatural. Perhaps my confusion is a matter of terminology, and your not defining the terms you use. Could we try one more time, put in less of a cryptic, arcane style?
Aha. Well, I try to be brief mainly because the arthritis in my hands doesn't allow me to write lengthy texts but I see what you mean. What Fr. Amorth was talking about (in 25 words or less) was that in Europe, where he lived until his death, the civilization was so cynical and jaded that they called "good" evil and evil "good", specifically, the things of God. (I'm sure I'm not the first person to tell you that.) Proverbs 17:5 and Isaiah 5:20 speak of this. This is done routinely in places like this forum and others, so Trump becomes "Satan" and people who tell lies become angels of truth. 2 Tim. 4:3-4. He said in Europe this is standard procedure and he said because of the secularization of the west it would start happening here. He was right. Fr. Amorth's book is called "An ExorcistTells His Story"
Some scoff at the concept of demonic possession. But in the Bible, which I deem essentially to be true, Jesus cast demons from a possessed man. Therefore I am inclined to acquiesce to the possibility. Personally, I feel greatly secure in my cognizance, person, and faith. So how such a circumstance as possession might come about is vague to me. Perhaps too is the call to repentance and rebirth a form of exorcism. Which would mean essentially that all are possessed to varying degrees. I just don't know actually. Here I defer to John 10: 27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one. It may seem hokey to quote, like clutching at beads or a cross in fear. But my testimony is not based upon the scripture. The scripture is rather reflective of my testimony and appropriate in that Jesus Christ is my savior and God. Not that he needs it, but I testify of him.
