The 2nd amendment is the "LEGAL" check and balance against authoritarian government. Surely you know that.
You know by now that criminals will able too obtain guns and other powerful weapons whenever the want them. Gun control laws only disarm the peacekeepers -- the people.
Flawed argument. Gun free zones have not stopped criminals. In fact, gun free zones are the criminal mass shooters' favorite venue.
In fact, relying on "trained, honest, professional security" is a failed model for keeping the peace. Abe's professional security failed to react until the second blast was fired.
Oh stop it. Dont let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Japanese gun related incidents are almost unknown.
So meanwhile, if children are being massacred and no police are on site yet, you would object to properly trained, armed pedestrians stopping the threat. Why?
It's bizarre to even make the argument because it would require one to ignore the criminal element of a black market where guns are being sold even in places where there are very strict gun control laws.
In fact, Indiana has one of the largest black markets of all the states. Banning all guns and thinking it will stop criminals is just a fantasy dream concocted by the controlling left.
You would think those promoting this nonsense would have learned a lesson from the 18th Amendment and prohibition. How's that saying go? Do the same thing over again, expecting different results is how you define insanity.
If folks enjoying a snack or meal at a mall food court when someone starts shooting at them, and no police are on site yet, would you object to properly trained, armed mall shopper stopping the threat?
No they aren't. Because who cares? Campaign contributions are hardly paying off politicians. Politicians are supposed to respect the views of their constituents, not vote freely against the will of their constituents. No. When politicians listen to their constituents that's democracy. Except you are not trying to prevent a single death. You only want to violate our civil liberties.
Wrong. People with concealed carry permits carry their guns outside. Being an ex-Communist state does not change the fact that they are now free.
I objected to his demand to violate our civil liberties. You think wrong. Finland accepts national defense as a legitimate reason for people to buy semi-auto rifles with 30 round magazines: https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-eu-security-finland-idUKKBN0TZ1L820151216 No need for the government to provide ammunition. Buy your own.
No it can't. The government is required to respect the Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment does not leave anyone dead. It only prevents you from violating people's civil liberties. But our freedom would still be worth it even if it did cost lives. America chooses to NOT abolish freedom. Nonsense. Your efforts to violate our civil liberties have nothing to do with saving any lives. No we aren't.
You should tell those teachers who died trying to protect their students that they did it wrong. They were supposed to stand back and let the massacre continue unchallenged. We have no intention of abolishing our freedom. The fact that Japan's murder victims are killed with other kinds of weapons does not make those murder victims any less dead. There is nothing even remotely fabricated about self defense. People defend themselves every day.
What did he say about that? Your link says they consider seeking an exemption No. Those Swiss military rifles are strictly for national defense, not for personal use.
Knabenschiessen is for teenagers, so they would not have full-auto military rifles in the first place (which is what we are talking about). They practice with civilian rifles, and then compete with military rifles at the event under strict supervision. Those rifles do not belong to the kids.
That has nothing to do with the ability of criminals in Japan to obtain guns in spite of the strictest gun control laws. Gun control laws empower criminals. “Although Japan has some of the developed world's most stringent gun restrictions, the number of serious crimes committed with handguns here last year was the highest since the National Police Agency began keeping such statistics more than a decade ago. And the rate of gun crimes in the first six months of 2000 promises to exceed that record. "I think the public believes it is safe in Japan," said Koichi Sunada, head of a citizens' anti-gun group in Tokyo. "But the situation is changing." WASHINGTON POST, Gun Use Intrudes on Japanese Serenity, By Doug Struck, Washington Post Foreign Service, Friday, August 11, 2000; A17.
Law abiding British subjects were disarmed by the 1996 Gun Ban. Predictably the gun ban failed to prevent criminals from buying guns. “BACKGROUND In 2021, London recorded the highest number of teenage homicides caused by knife and gun crimes in modern times. That year, the UK’s capital saw the murders of some 30 male teenagers aged between 14 and 19. This surpassed the record of 29 in 2008[1].” “The impact of such violence cannot be underestimated. Gun and knife violence is a daily tragedy that affects the lives of countless individuals around the world. It affects whole communities by implanting fear into their neighbourhoods. Consequently, this leads to a loss of freedom – the freedom to leave your home at night and walk to the shops, safely, for instance. The loss of freedom of a life without anxiety. Gun and knife violence also disproportionately impacts communities of colour, and communities with higher rates of poverty – meaning that people already unduly impacted by the harsh realities of life are further trammelled by street crime and violence.” AOAV, London’s Murders Examined: key figures in the UK capital’s homicides, By Sabrina Lavrut, on 12 Apr 2022. https://aoav.org.uk/2022/londons-murders-examined-key-figures-in-the-uk-capitals-homicides/
He said that Democrats mean to overrule the Constitution and abolish America's freedom. An exemption for people to be able to buy semi-auto rifles with 30 round magazines for purposes of national defense. They are allowed to take them out to shooting ranges and shoot with them. And if someone violently attacked them, I'm sure they would not be prosecuted for using their gun to defend their home. I suppose the government would look askance at the notion of people using them for hunting though.
It looks like Finish civilians use a modernized version of the AK-47 (semi-auto-only of course) for national defense. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020/06/09/finnish-reservists-buy-new-aks-from-south-korea/
