Kansas - the heart of the red territory - rejected the opportunity to remove the right to an abortion from their State Constitution This does not bode well for trump republicans. Whoops!
I guess Kansas voters don't need to vote in democrats to add a Supreme Court justice to revert roe v wade. Under the republican leadership, they can run their state how they want.
The only reason trump was elected was so he could put corrupt judges on the court who would overturn Roe and save the microscopic babies. Looks like that didn't work out. There is a republican backlash against trump. But not from the politicians. Not one republican politician supporting trump is as brave as Cassidy Hutchinson. No doubt this was driven by women.
Stereotype much? This actually supports more conservative thinking - the people of the state deciding the laws that govern abortion within the state.
So you don't support the right of privacy. Got it. If we don't have Federal Protections, you know, like a Constitution, then why have a nation at all? Why don't you support the right of Secession? Rightes just love arguing out of both sides of their mouth!
Don't presume to pronounce what I support or don't - you'll fail miserably. We have a Constitution that established the powers of the federal government and those of the states. Fortunately for you I support the right to ask stupid questions
Been saying all along, this is a dog catches car issue for Republicans and I think they know it. That's a pretty remarkable result for a state like Kansas and perhaps a bellwether for the seething resentment for the end of Roe in states that won't get the opportunity to vote directly like Kansans have. This is not a popular issue for the GOP.
Actually it bodes very well for them, the DNC wanted to use abortion as an election issue but this proves it's not, that people agree with the SCOTUS' decision to leave it up to themselves to choose. How were the judges "corrupt" exactly? Surely this bears out the SCOTUS decision? That it's better to let the people decide?
Wrong. It's turning out exactly as we predicted - the will of the people rather than the will of the loonie left is dictating abortion laws. The result of the election is a massive "liar, liar, pants on fire" to the leftist wacko community - they're just too dumb to realize it.
If women are still pissed, when the midterms roll around, there are going to be a lot of sad Republicans.
When put to the general public, even Kansas rejected trumpery. But when in primaries, trump loyalists win. BAD BAD news for republicans in the general election.
Yup. Nothing is more important to American women than abortion. Not husbands, kids, family, home, job, food, on the table, war, inflation, no gas to get to work with. Nope. They will happily toss that to keep some chick pregnant inspite of her boy friend wanting to kill it so he won't get stuck with child support. IMO, the blues state are pro abortion because they end up supporting most of them if they get born and they are broke as it is!
Are they? The protests seem to have faded pretty fast, the people of Kansas just showed that SCOTUS were right to give them the choice and the DNC's desperate strategy of trying to promote more right wingers in the idea of them being rejected by floating voters seems to be backfiring disastrously?
That's a good question. Dems have 3 things in their favor. The first is abortion, and asking if that passion will be there by the midterms is reasonable. The 2nd is what Morning Joe calls the Macron Effect. The French may be pissed at Macron, but they won't vote for a complete nutjob. Trump is out there, pissing people off on both sides of the fence. You never know in politics, but my 2 cents is: no wave.
Newhouse won the primaries in WA. This gives me some hope there are still Americans with spines. Vindictive Trump has been trying to get rid of all that dared to call him om his insanity. https://www.axios.com/2022/08/06/dan-newhouse-trump-primary
How are women "tossing" anything by not electing Republicans? Perhaps you can tell me what is the Republican solution to all the problems you listed because I've not yet heard of any beyond blaming Biden and then electing Trump in 2024 at which point all problems of any kind will evaporate. Abortion is about a woman being able to forestall herself having to bear a child she doesn't want to. It is EXTREMELY important to just about every woman I know MUCH more so than any vague economic promises which may or may not work and which the Republicans haven't even MADE yet.
The republican solution is not to blame the Court. They are only doing their job which was to rule whether or not abortion was enshrined in the Constitution as a right. They said, "No". So rather than put the justices on the rack until they rule your way, you should kick it back to the Legislative Branch of government: Congress. I know you learned all this in high school. Either congress makes one big law, or they dodge it as usual and leave it up to the states, but don't blame SCOTUS for not finding what is not there. Lastly, I think there is more smoke than fire caused by media focus on AstroTurf demonstrations. It Trump came out as Pro Abortion, the movement would collapse like a cheap tent. Solution: Build a better congress. BTW, how about building a better citizen? I get that the unspoken argument is crime control caused by the off spring of irresponsible birth persons freeing their toddlers to go feral and becoming a liability of society. Most will agree that we don't need more of "those" people, do we? How many of the 850,000 abortees would have grown up and gone to prison? I get it. But I am not willing to embrace such a Nazi solution whether it is effective or not. What ever happened to orphanages and increase emphasis on foster care?
Whatever happened to freedom for all citizens, even those who can have kids? If they want to have children and then put them into the tender care of the State no one will be stopping them
No, I'm just pointing out that having the State coercing women to have children they then put into orphanages or foster care seems a little self-defeating, doesn't it?
You don't honestly think Trump cares either way about abortion do you? Well for a start they're already overtaxed and underfunded and I don't expect Republicans to be directing substantial extra resources to them anytime soon. I suppose my next question would be: have you ever been anywhere near an orphanage or foster home or seen what happens to kids when they age out of the system? For many, it ain't pretty and you're going to exacerbate that by filling them up with untold numbers of kids; many of whom will know they are only there because their mothers didn't want them but were forced to give birth to them regardless? Yea, that will make for a ton of untroubled individuals for sure.
Regardless of the abortion vote, Kansas will reelect it’s 3 republicans incumbents in the house while probably ousting its only democratic house incumbent. All 4 of Kansas’s house members will probably be GOP after November. Kansas’s Republican senator Moran will handily win reelection while their governor, Democratic incumbent Kelly might survive. The governor’s race is rated a tossup. If you want to dig more into the house races, the current House of Representative consists of 221 Democrats, 214 Republicans. The GOP needs a net gain of 4 seats to take control of the House. There are 56 competitive, switchable, at risk districts. Currently held by 42 Democrats and 14 Republicans. Safe seats as of 6 Aug 2022, 179 Democratic, 200 Republican. Probable net gain for the Republicans is 18-20 seats. Which would give the GOP control of the house with the majority over the Democrats somewhere between 232-203 to 234-201. Now the senate is different, chances are the Democrats end up with a net gain of 1 seat, Pennsylvania while hanging onto their tossup seats in Nevada, Arizona and Georgia. The Republicans should hang onto their tossup seats in Wisconsin and North Carolina. Normally as history has shown, when you have a president with a 39% overall job approval, you’d expect a wave election. That isn’t going to happen this year. Independents are very dissatisfied, unhappy with Biden and company, but they don’t trust a Trump led party so they’re hesitant to vote for Republican candidates. Especially Trump endorsed candidates. Going by today’s numbers, I expect the Republicans to regain control of the house, the Democrats to retain control of the senate while the Democrats gain 3 or 4 governorships. That is going by today’s numbers as no one knows what they’ll be in November.
Can anyone explain to me how the most fundamental human right I can conceive of is now a matter of geography and this is supposed to enhance our freedom?
Someone actually watches Morning Joe? When Joe Scarborough was a representative I was in his district. He was always a little questionable. Right after he was re-elected in 2000 he quit in early 2001 to "spend more time with my kids" even though he had divorced his wife in 1999, but the word around town was he got caught doing bad things and he cut a political deal and quit rather than face the music. Most thought he was an adulterer, a few months after quitting congress he married a congressional staffer, had a kid, and divorced her. Back home Joe is known as "Quitter Joe" to this day. He is a mental lightweight with poor morals and no real political principles. He's perfect for the democrats.
