He's already starting to beg for donations from people to fund the suit. https://www.thedailybeast.com/donal...rs-to-donate-for-upcoming-lawsuit-against-cnn https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...ump-suing-cnn-pleads-supporters-b2140033.html Over a week after Donald Trump threatened to sue CNN, the former US president is asking supporters on his email list to contribute money to help him fight his lawsuit against the outlet. Mr Trump said late last month that he would sue CNN and “other media outlets” for dismissing his voter fraud claims.
Probably not. He's a public figure. I doubt even he's dumb enough to think he can win. And I doubt a single dollar he leeches from his cult will actually go toward any court case, just like what happened with his braindead Big Lie.
It takes more than malice. You'd have to prove malice and that they knew it was wrong. And the bar is higher for public figures. But if that is all he has to do, and if you are so confident it is "self-evident," then you can take me up on the wager I've offered others who have feigned this confidence (and which they all ran away from): If Trump is victorious in this case, I'll donate $100 to the charity of your choice. If he fails, you donate $5 to the charity of my choice. I'll even given you a list to choose from. Deal?
So something like how Twitter takes down Trump's tweet\call for peace and then puts up a banner that it was taken down for hate speach? How could they not know it was false and malice is obvious. Maybe he should sue Twitter
It was the rest of the speech that was the problem, not the one-off line, and the fact that he sat on his hands doing nothing during the attack (well, except for continuing to stoke the fire) will be a good defense for CNN. Again, if you were really as confident as you are pretending to be, you'd take me up on the wager that you, like every Trump defender before you, are running away from.
Have you ever noticed that he always begs his base for donations and then doesn’t follow through with anything? It’s almost like he has found a source that is much more profitable than suing — and seeing that this is the US that must be a very easy item to take advantage of.
Uh, he also has to prove falsity. That is, he has to prove that CNN falsely dismissed Trump’s complaints that the election was stolen. Good luck with that.
Only if they'd actually broadcast that. I don't recall seeing it mentioned in his long, long document listing all the things he was threatening to sue them for and I would have expected that to be prominent since it would be much, much more significant that the statements that were listed (which was mostly just about using the phrase "Big Lie" in any context). Incidentally, does anyone know if it's legal for a politician to receive donations for a specifically stated purpose but then use them for something else?
He doesn't need to have a legitimate claim because his purpose here doesn't depend on winning. This is a publicity and fund-raising stunt, pure and simple. It gets him in the news and gives him something else to ask people to open their wallets to him for.
Oh yeah, Trump is complaining that someone said incorrect things about him To boot, there was no fraud. !!!
I don't think it's a stretch to say CNN and their employees had real malice, which will be the standard in defamation. Juries do all kinds of emotional things, and who like CNN anymore anyway? After all the underage diddling that goes on there, it's a surprise they are still on the air at all....
In court, you have to do better than "I don't think it's a stretch." Please tell me you understand this. But, hey, you are free to take me up on my wager if you want. Every other Trump supporter I've spoken to has fled and hid in terror of it. Source?
Wasn't this the same crowd that screamed "Sandman doesn't stand a chance in court"? CNN Producer John Griffin arrested for attempting to persuade minors to engage in unlawful sexual activity
Oh, so like Gaetz and Trump have been accused of? Nah, I'm not going to blame an entire company for what one person has been accused of doing. Fox has way more accusations of sexual crimes and I still didn't hold it against the entire company.
That case would end up being dismissed. I have my doubts that he's serious about the suit; it looks like another reason to grift from the gullible.
