http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?forums/latest-us-world-news.59/create-thread Looks like Matt Gaetz is out of legal trouble from the sex trafficking allegations. There were two witnesses in the case, and they were deemed not to be credible. The first witness was a girlfriend who he took to the Bahamas in 2018. It was determined that she would have been 18 at the time. Gaetz would have been 36, which is very creepy, to say the least, but is not illegal. The other person who accused Gaetz was charged with fabricating allegations and evidence. He was offered a plea deal to drop 27 charges if he could help prosecutors build another case. That other case was Gaetz. Without any credible evidence of wrongdoing, the prosecutors on the case have recommended no charges to the DOJ.
Fake News. BUT HE’S A REPUBLICAN, SO IT WILL PROCEED, AT LEAST UNTIL NOVEMBER 8: WaPo: Career prosecutors tell DoJ they have no viable case against Gaetz. They never did. Just like we immediately told you. Yet another political witch hunt.
So it looks like the DOJ doesn't charge someone if they don't have the evidence to support the charges. I guess they aren't as corrupt as some people seem to think. This will be good to keep in mind for future cases.
They've known for well over a year that the girl was 18 and the man was a liar. They leaked to the liberal press that she was 17. They kept this going; why?
We don't know anything about this case other than a few things that were leaked. We don't even know if it was the DOJ or someone else who leaked the info. To assume we know about every potential "victim" that was being investigated is a mistake. It's very possible that the information most favorable to Gaetz was leaked by him or someone on his team, and we don't know about the other stuff. Since they aren't pressing charges, nothing else will ever become public most likely.
They never had any intent of charging him. They just leak the existence of the the investigation and let the cloud linger as long as they can.
Three people who were "briefed" on the matter leaked it. Who else was briefed by the DOJ on the investigation? Senior DOJ officials and DOJ appointees. Are they in the habit of briefing non-justice employees on their secret investigations? Do you not have access to the NY Times article? Perhaps it's behind a paywall... seems to be the only logical excuse...
His attorneys would have been briefed on some level. why wouldn’t the DOJ wait until after the election to announce they weren’t seeking charges, if the goal was to screw him over? leaking to the media is how you tamper with witnesses without being convicted of witness tampering. It happens all the time.
You think Gaetz had a team of attorneys before charges were even filed and the three of them leaked it to the NY Times? And they decided their best course of action was to witness tamper by providing falsehoods to make the allegations appear more serious and credible than they were rather than keeping it secret, providing mitigating factors, or protecting his public image and their license to practice law? That's the story you're going with? This makes sense to you? Because it sounds like an absurd conspiracy theory to avoid admitting the obvious. The NY Times said in their article that senior DOJ officials and appointees were briefed. The DOJ doesn't "brief" the perp about the material facts of their investigation or who they are reporting to. That would defeat the entire point.
You don't think gaetz knew he was under investigation before we did? Don't you think he wanted to let the other people involved that they were under investigation and to let them know what he knew about it? The only way to do that without getting into trouble is to leak it. He can't call them up and let them know. This happens all the time. The leaks that get to the media are almost never from law enforcement. It is from the subject trying to dirty the investigation.
You're not making any sense, and I don't think you understand the definition of key words in the conversation.
