Let’s say a politician tells you not to bank with a particular bank because they don’t support green energy, or a politician tells you not to buy from Walmart because they support gun control, would you do as they say? I personally am not influenced by politicians however I have my own standards. If a company supports gun control such as Microsoft for example, I will try and not buy their products unless I have to. I also won’t support political correctness. I absolutely hate woke crap. So if a company is woke I will also limit my purchases. I also refuse to watch/buy any movie that has majority, mostly, or all black casts. Because it’s been influenced by politics. Same goes for movies supporting homosexuals or transgenders. One movie I still have not seen although it was very popular is black panther for that very reason. But no one tells me to that’s just me. are any of you the same?
You don't think there are all black or all gay stories? There is a new movie loosely based on a true story called The Woman King, about women warriors in West Africa between the 17th and 19th century. Are you saying you won't watch it because it is an all black cast? If there was a movie about a gay community, you see no value in learning about them from their point of view? How can you understand other cultures if you aren't willing to learn? Have you considered that what you consider political, is really cultural and the very thing you should try to understand? Do you think black people should just dismiss 100% of all white movies as political?
Oh I’ve read books that are non fiction to understand their culture. Thomas Sowell has many great books that gets into American black culture. One of my favorites is “Black Rednecks And White Liberals” Predominant black/gay casts have been a political push. Dominate black in commercials is also a political push. They don’t represent America nor are the best America has to offer as group so it’s only politics. If it were on merit I would be okay with it.
Interesting.... I read about this tradition years ago and I am very interested in that story. What I had read was that a king in Africa decided to have an all woman army....... They amputated their right breast if they were right handed so that they could wield the sword more effectively. Many other kings in Africa got terrified by how good this army was so they united against this king...... and it took an army of men that outnumbered the women by about five to one to finally defeat them. They were all killed...... none of these women soldiers were taken as slaves........ that is basically what I had read about this back in the 1990's. Thank you for letting me know about this movie. So far I am the only.... "Limit but may not stop" On the subject of homosexuality...... my wife and I tend to avoid movies about the Gay community but........ I believe that what this near death experiencer wrote is true and accurate. https://near-death.com/christian-andreason-nde/
I boycott almost everything that is vocally conservative owned or pushed — thankfully they don’t really make much. You must not be watching many movies or TV shows if you refuse to watch blacks and gay people. I would think the christian fascist network would get tiring after a little while. Do you also boycott companies that donate to LGBT causes?
What politicians tell me to do doesnt effect from whom I buy. But the politics of the company itself certainly can.
I didn’t say don’t watch any show that has blacks. I said I will not watch shows that are only black or mostly black.
I don't get why woke folk label a distaste for LGBT+ people as "hateful". I have no hate at all for them and believe their rights are as sacred as anyone else's. I don't think of them as evil or hurtful at all. I vie them much like I view folks that pick their nose and eat it. Not evil. Just... icky.
Deeming around 10% of the population as “icky” is fine — people can dislike groups for whatever reason they need to justify it. I haven’t seen anyone call one “hateful” for finding 30 million Americans “distasteful” however. I only find it to be hateful when they believe they should be subjected to a different set of laws and more easily discriminated against because of irrelevant factors.
As much as possible I won’t buy from woke companies or companies that support democrats. Been doing that for maybe 10 years. My company avoids certain states as well because of their gun laws, for example they won’t buy from or sell to a business in CA, HI, NY, DC, and some others. I definitely encourage boycotting lefty companies and lefty owners. If every conservative left Twitter, Twitter would be devastated and all the other lefty big tech would stop censoring conservatives out of fear of a boycott. But instead of acting conservatives just whine about Twitter.
I have no issue with someone's skin color in regards to watching TV or a movie, owning a business or running a business. I don't care what someone's politics are, if they have what I need at a fair price, then I buy it. If they attempt to make their business about their skin color or politics, then I'd likely avoid it. When it comes to portraying an existing or historical figure, I wouldn't think that a White woman would be a good portrayal of, let's say Tina Turner. I don't think a Black woman would be a good portrayal of Martha Washington.
No, and I don't get people who choose to make their own lives more difficult over such silly issues. Movies? If you have to research the movie before seeing it, it pretty much ruins the experience because you'll know how it plays out. Few years ago Trump demonized the American sport of football, and many of his loyalists stopped watching the games. Why punish yourself?
I dont need to “understand” every group of people, certainly not groups who unfairly demonize me and everything I believe in. If they can’t live and let live, mind their own business, respect other people, then I don’t have to “understand” them.
*Correction* Their bigotry influences my purchases. If they make casting decisions against the actual reflection of our society then I have no desire to support their politics.
"I also refuse to watch/buy any movie that has majority, mostly, or all black casts." Blacks and gays "don’t represent America nor are the best America has to offer as group so it’s only" bigotry not politics. You wouldn't watch "Black Panther" because it has a Black cast? An action hero movie. How is that political and not just bigotry? Or more, something you can relate to because it is further in the past. You wouldn't watch "Sanford and Son" reruns because it has a Black cast? How is that "political"? Would you refuse to watch a movie with an all Japanese or Hispanic cast or are those movies not "political"?
If you would like me to be more specific, any movie that fits the following criteria I will not watch political correctness or any forced political push by Hollywood I will not support. To base things on race rather than credentials is just a way to get people in them not based on talent but based on some perceived birth right. I won’t support that.
Do you also forbid your grandchildren from watching the Walt Disney catalog because they are too "political"? All these get an A: Mulan Pocahontas Raya and the Last Dragon Moana Encanto Snow White (dwarves) Aladdin Big Hero 6 Lilo and Stitch Beauty and the Beast (gay) I could go on but you seem to be getting bigotry and politics confused.
Sometimes in very limited and specific ways. When Coke sided with pulling the All Star game from Atlanta, I switched to Pepsi. But that's small stuff. I've always lived outside Wokeistan (white, male, married 35 years to the same woman, heterosexual, old, regular Walmart shopper- basically everything bad in society these days) so it's tough to make my life any more disparaged. My life is now, "so what Skippy? Just go away".
Black Panther is a science fiction movie set mostly in an imaginary country in Africa. What did you expect the cast to look like ??? Come on man, seriously ! Lol
I'm not a leftist: I reason using my brain. Politics don't influence me ... about myself [I've been an elected politician ...].
