Taylor (@_taylor_day_) TikTok | Watch Taylor's Newest TikTok Videos This video shows a little tiny baby being laid against the chest of its father. The baby was born at 24 weeks gestation. The baby is attached to all sorts of tubes and wires and is still alive in this video but sadly the baby was not able to make it. Babies born at such an early stage have a low survival rate. It's amazing to see how small that little human being is. It's obviously smaller than a normal newborn baby because it was born so early and premature. Take a look at that baby. And then keep in mind that there are 5 separate states in the U.S. where killing it would still be legal, if it were inside its mother. In the video, the father can be seen bonding with that baby, knowing there is a high chance his little son Caleb will not survive.
I watched the video and I'm still as pro-choice as I was before I watched it. Earlier today I actually saw a similar video on Instagram Reels. Didn't change my position on a woman's right to choose her own reproductive health care either.
I see. So even looking at that baby in the video, you still think the woman should be able to abort it if it is inside of her. Even if there is entirely nothing medically wrong.
Forcing rape victims to have their rapists baby is wrong, how could anyone support that? I will always be pro-chocie
Yes, because prior to watching the video I was already well aware of what babies look like, being a parent of three children as I am.
I think it should be 20 weeks, like Australia. I'm not personally happy with it but from a medical perspective it's a reasonable compromise.
So you'd be okay killing that (as seen in video) because it MIGHT be a rape baby. Yeah, I'm sorry, if a woman waits that long (for whatever reason), it's FAR too late to be doing any abortion. whether she was a real rape victim or not. Geesh, at the very least leave it in there another two or three weeks and give it a chance to live, before taking it out. Do you think that's too unreasonable, FreshAir? We'd be talking about a rape victim who's already had it inside of her for 24 weeks. Would just 2 more weeks be too long to wait? She already had 24 weeks to think about this, and probably already knew somewhere deep down she was probably pregnant. When something happens to you like RAPE, you start paying really close attention and keep an eye out of any signs of pregnancy. The fact that a woman is coming to doctors wanting to abort at 24 weeks is a sign that she was most probably NOT raped, I would think.
Forcing rape victims to have their rapists baby is wrong, I could never support that? you decide for yourself, let others decide for themselves, this is not a choice for the government or you or I to make
This is the strongest argument you have against abortions? And how about a movie which shows how unwanted child suffers, unloved by single a mother who can barely afford basic food? Abortion is clear choice - the right of woman to her body against the right of unborn fetus + a threat of hell from invisible friend. For me the choice is clear - the right of woman to her body.
The woman has to ask herself... If she terminates that baby, does she deserve hell? I didn't ask whether there is a hell or not, I asked whether she would deserve it, to spend some time in such a place... if it did exist... We've been over this before. There are actually lots of loving families on long waiting lists to adopt... if it is a White baby. Do you think all babies should have to lose just because a certain subset of them might be unwanted? In my opinion, 24 weeks is too late to be a doing a mercy killing just because it might be unwanted. Don't you agree?
Yes. there are loving families on long waiting lists to adopt, but still we have plenty of single mothers with unwanted kids, black or white. Let me repeat: Abortion is clear choice - the right of woman to her body against the right of unborn fetus + a threat of hell from invisible friend. My choice- the right of woman over the right of fetus.
Do you still call it a "fetus", at that stage? It does look remarkably like a baby to me... Maybe you call it a fetus if it couldn't manage to survive? (Well by that definition, I guess there was no way for them to know whether what had been born was a fetus or a baby at the time it had been born... since the life was still in limbo) Or maybe if it's under a certain bodyweight cut-off it's not a baby? (I guess Asian babies would be at a disadvantage there)
I do know that the Nazis had to resort to various euphemisms to do what they did, to avoid the uncomfortable psychological reality. When you're in favor of killing a group of human beings, there are all sorts of mental gymnastics that have to be jumped through. There was a psychologist who interviewed several Nazi senior officer war criminals in prison (before they were about to be executed) and the psychologist found it remarkable how none of them seemed to want to be confronted head on with what they did. They had a total aversion to the reality of what they had ordered, having constructed an elaborate system in their psyche to sidestep the reality, something referred to as "cognitive dissonance".
yes, we saw what happens when the government decides for you.... Nazis are a good example, is that what the anti-choicers want here? I see people here that don't want to think about themselves supporting rape victims being forced to have their rapists babies, it's like they know it's wrong
It's wrong to abort your child, even if your child was conceived in rape, if you waited too long. You're familiar with the old expression "Two wrongs don't make a right". I'm personally willing to let the woman have some leeway, even if it is the wrong decision, but eventually government has to put its foot down. The opening post has a video of what very obviously is a baby... not just merely some "fetus". And here you are talking about how she should be allowed to abort because for all we know it might have been rape. Let me guess. The woman was so traumatized she needs weeks and weeks to make up her mind and get around to doing anything about it. And then after a whole 24 weeks of her waiting and wallowing in shock and denial, it's too unreasonable to ask her to wait a few weeks longer.
yes, rape is wrong and forcing a rape victim to have their rapists baby is wrong glad to see you support legal Abortion in some cases
~ According to recent polls most consider late term abortion homicide. As far as I know only two countries allow this – North Korea and China. Women have a right to birth control, abstinence — and within 12 weeks of pregnancy a safe legal abortion in all 50 states.
late term abortion are rare unless the health of the mother is at risk 12 week? the right keeps moving that number down and adding road blocks to the time they can even get an appointment for the procedure http://www.slate.com/id/2120872/ "a member of President Bush's Council on Bioethics, describes in his book The Ethical Brain, current neurology suggests that a fetus doesn't possess enough neural structure to harbor consciousness until about 26 weeks, when it first seems to react to pain. Before that, the fetal neural structure is about as sophisticated as that of a sea slug and its EEG as flat and unorganized as that of someone brain-dead."
invest in science anti-choicers, when babies can be grown outside the womb, you can regulate it as it will no longer be up to the women as it will not be her body that is risking it's life and limb to have a baby
You can view a state map of gestational limits by state here: 25908.jpeg (1200×1200) (statcdn.com) also see the map here: Abortion law in the United States by state - Wikipedia You can also see this thread, which explains that even in several states where elective late-term abortion is theoretically not legal, it is still in effect allowed, through some mildly complicated subtleties in how new pro-abortion legislation was worded: New York legalizes really late term Abortion and celebrates like it's the Super Bowl According to Wikipedia, "Abortion in Oregon is legal at all stages of pregnancy." Abortion in Oregon - Wikipedia The exact legal situation is a little bit more complicated than that because the state has not passed any new abortion legislation since the Roe v. Wade ruling, which suggests that the state government has had no appetite to enforce any abortion restrictions. "Abortion in New Mexico is legal at all stages of pregnancy." Abortion in New Mexico - Wikipedia
Wikipedia says "Abortion is legal up to 25 weeks" in Virginia Abortion in Virginia - Wikipedia "Abortion in Vermont is legal at all stages of pregnancy." Abortion in Vermont - Wikipedia "Abortion in New Jersey is legal at all stages of pregnancy." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_in_New_Jersey
So, what does this mean? You are not happy with SC decision in letting States decide? It sounds like you want someone to decide for everyone.
Maybe the people in California, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Vermont need to take a hard look at the abortion policies that actually exist in their state and realize what those policies actually mean. Also we should probably come up with some way to help protect late-term unborn babies who are in other states, which is another discussion.
