We should keep gun ownership legal! If we don’t people will resort to back alley vendors who are shady and this whole process endangers people’s lives! People will die trying to protect themselves and their families!
this raises an interesting point -gun banning and abortion banning are often mirror image opposites. Both movements often are not honest about their real goals. Both movements have people who really believe that banning guns or abortion will save innocent human life, but most movements are led by people who want to punish those whose cultural values differ from them
I don't think the analogy works, except in the sense that both types of laws are difficult to fully enforce and having the laws stops mostly those who try to obey the law. I think a better analogy would be hunting for sport. People who are for hunting would say the animals aren't persons and so don't deserve the right to not be hunted down and killed for fun. The deer probably have a better argument to having rights than embryos though, as the deer clearly can suffer. Another issue is that I don't think "banning guns" is as mainstream to the left as "banning abortion" is for the right.
Well owning a gun doesn’t equate to committing a homicide, that much is true. Abortion is committing a homicide!
I disagree-every single Democrat in congress (the house) voted to support the Biden gun ban. There are a ton of Republicans who are not in favor of banning all abortion. Those of us in the libertarian wing are not. and MOST republicans do not support banning abortion in the cases of the life of the mother is threatened, rape or incest. EVERY dem congress critter wanted to ban the sale of normal capacity magazines and the AR 15 style rifle
Sure, and I'm not hearing States talk about banning guns without exception. I do hear, however, many States talk about banning abortion without exception.
Uh well there's perspective for you. When I hear "ban guns" I think people are talking about disallowing the personal use of firearms. You think about things like magazine size and semi-automatic fire. I haven't seen a real push by democrats to literally ban all firearms. I have seen a push by republicans to literally ban abortion at conception. Whether AR 15 is comparable to 12 week abortions or viability or something else is a bit harder to say.
anyone who actually pays attention to us pro rights advocates know that we state that democrats are trying to incrementally ban guns. They don't have the ability to ban all guns NOW. So they pick things off and gradually try to erode our rights. NeoCon Gun banner Charles Krauthammer-noted that the clinton gun ban was useless as a crime fighting tool but served a useful function of "desensitizing" the public to needed gun bans.
well there is a couple big differences. gun ownership is an enumerated constitutional right. The government that tries to ban guns has tons of guns. Owning a gun does not impact the lives of anyone or anything. A gun ban prevents you from enjoying the use of a gun. Most abortions are easily avoidable (BTW I support abortion being legal until viability and in all cases of rape, incest, or serious health issues for the mother or serious defects in the fetus) and even if one's own state bans an abortion, traveling to another state will fulfill that "right".
A gun is just a tool, an abortion is a homicide. So the proper analogy might be owning a scalpel and owning a gun should always be legal.
A better analogy would be that support for government power for that which you agree, will be used for that which you oppose.
My post is well within the definition and appears to have you stumped. Since government interference for our own good is something you support, may I assume that you support gun control, vax mandates, and higher taxes?
Yes, 11 States have criminalized it with very few exceptions. Its like banning all guns, except muzzle-loaders.
Clearly it is not! I am intelligent enough to know the difference between a homicide and taxes or the right to own property.
