https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20...-prevent-traveling-out-of-state-for-abortions TYT a also did a video on this but I know it will be ignored by many as being “too leftist”. This is simply dog whistling - someone trying to get attention. But what REALLY pings me off is how little thought this so called representative has actually put into this. I mean how on earth does he think he is going to stop women from travelling out of state or even flying to Canada to get an abortion? Have they never looked into the history of abortion?
Maybe he will introduce Taliban style rules.......regarding women....... The R's want to go back in time to another era........ a lot more primitive.
and so much for the slogan of:" right to life" But then only the embryo has that "right"......... The mother.??.........it is crap shoot. Mix religion and politics..........and one has Taliban type thinking. Abortion should be no one's business except the pregnant woman........the sperm doner.......... and their family physician. except in the case of rape.........where the" doner" has no say at all.......and should be jailed. If a person's"religion" dictates their decision about abortion.......it is then a non issue. Don't have one. The other variable is the mothers' health....... if she cannot carry a pregnancy due to health reasons...... she has to have options open to her.. The important things i NOT to judge someone for their decision........... ........ as that is not anyone's business........ and poor form. Plus .....one does NOT impose ones own values on another person. ( unless they want you to)
Repubs will NOT be happy until women are kept in stalls in barns and chained to the walls like all other breeding animals.
It's highly unlikely any pregnant woman will be banned from travel. The issue will be finding evidence they had an abortion if it happened somewhere outside the state. This will of course pose some big additional challenges in enforcement but will not make it totally impossible.
This will only be an issue for earlier stage abortions - which in any case might not even be banned. For later stage abortions, it will be seen as the woman's own fault and getting what she deserves, with the risks she is undertaking just being seen as part of the punishment. Plus there are all sorts of arguments you can find that the mortality might not actually be expected to rise all that much.
You mean back to an area where women didn't sleep with whomever? If women lived like most women did in the 1950s, there would be no need for 90% of the abortions. Back then, pretty much only prostitutes and women in the Hollywood crowd got elective abortions.
you mean when women were oppressed and "knew their position" in life?? Why different standards for men and women?? and men could sleep around as much as the wanted??...... REALLY?? A persons' sexual activity is their business.......and theirs alone. The same applies to abortions.... These are private choices........and no one has the right to play judge ,jury and executioner. IF one is "religious" then make your choices accordingly........but don't tell others what they should do. If one is not religious..... make your choices privately too........and don't impose your values on anyone else.
Does that still apply when it has consequences for others who did not consent? Whether it's a human fetus having to die, or her husband contracting a sexually transmitted disease from her behavior. No one, you think, except the woman!
what about the tom cat husband who comes home with STD?? This is not a one sided situation. Tales twp to create a pregnancy. And those same two people are responsible for the choices they make. (unless they are under age...........or it is a rape situation) Seems what is needed is some excellent sex education, pregnancy preventing techniques in reality.......there is little excuse for unwanted pregnancies these days. Early education of the reproductive system........and birth control methods. Taught by a health professional .........and parents can be involved . The youth need to have someone that can answer their questions.........that parents might be hesitant, uncertain, or embarrassed.
no........but it IS HER body. If men had the job of carrying a pregnancy........particularly unwanted one..........or a product from rape...........there probably would hardly be any discussion about this The point is that becoming a parent is serious business........and should never be taken lightly. Not everyone is equipped to be parents.......that is just a fact. And one should not willingly add to the number of children that need adopted parents.
ANOTHER who thinks abortions didn't happen until 1973 !!! Or that only "bad" women got them ?? TOO hilarious....WHY OH WHY are Repubs so into "history denial " ??? Hey Kas , HOW DID "women live in the 1950's ? Like nuns? Like good little subservient slaves ? Like Harriet Nelson? Do you REALLY believe they did their housework in heels and pearls ?? ...and only had sex with their husbands and only to PRO-CRE-ATE ?
No, rape is against the law.... As MiaBleu said ;"A persons' sexual activity is their business.......and theirs alone. The same applies to abortions.... These are private choices...""" YUP, the PREGNANT ONE.....certainly not you or the Repubs Bigger Government...
I agree with most of what you post but : Some women don't want to use birth control or can't....and all birth control methods can fail. No one is obligated to use birth control....it's a personal choice.....
Anti choice......in a free nation??............. Those that are anti choice....... don't have t have abortions . No one is forcing them to. But they need to mind their own b business when it comes t to others.,,,, as others will make their own decisions.......privately. One does not impose their beliefs on others........or judge others for their choices..
And a large proportion are already in a stable relationship but even there there are barriers to contraception https://www.guttmacher.org/gpr/2003/05/marriage-no-immunity-problems-planning-pregnancies
To be entirely fair, Bowerbird, that graph and the link show nothing about any correlation between stable relationships and abortion. Assuming your comment was really mostly all about the issue of barriers to contraception, I think you were changing the issue of discussion.
Sounds like a discussion for another thread. Let's try to stay on one topic at a time, otherwise our discussions will never get anywhere.
In a nutshell!!........absolutely spot on. (along with proper sex and contraception education starting early.......before the young develop bad habits...preferably by professionals who can do it matter of factly .........
