What exactly IS “drag”? When we talk about a “drag show” is that just people dressed up as the opposite sex lip synching to a song or is it a full striptease showing genitalia? Could it be someone dressed as the “opposite gender” walking along the street? And exactly what is “normal” attire for genders? Are women in drag if they wear a business suit? How about men? Must all males wear attire that is bifurcated below the waist? In which case how do we classify these traditional modes of dress? I mean that last one is just itching for trouble Pom Pom shoes and a rifle
It's not to worry about. Sadly we have a segment in office that passes stupid laws knowing full well that they will be tossed in court. Remember Santis' attack on former inmates for registering to vote and voting? He didn't do so well in court but his fans will remember his big press release. There's a fun report idea, how many laws did you author/sign that courts overturned?
Yep you are right - this is about that stupid “anti- drag” law https://www.usatoday.com/story/opin...ag-shows-republican-attack-lgbtq/11393431002/ But it comes back to “what constitutes a “drag show””. Would a parade of Scots in kilts be considered “drag”. I mean after all they are not “troosers”.
How about this group? They are performing, they are not in trousers but in what might be described as a skirt and they are making rude threatening gestures Plus most of them have tattoos and makeup
I mean there's always a fuzzy line, but I'd say a reasonable definition is dressing yourself in the most visible of tropes from the other gender. Wearing pants as a woman therefore is rarely drag, but if a woman wears denim short shorts, a flannel tank top, a fake mullet and fake abs then yeah, I guess it would be. When do long shorts become short pants? There's always a fuzzy line. Pushing any definition to extremes is no different. Even the most solid of definitions, like life and death, truth and falsity, etc. It's clearly false to say there's a teapot on the moon, until some crazy bastard throws some chai in a crater and proves us wrong.
On a side note. I was watching a NZ Aussie rugby match and when NZ was doing their Haka performance the Aussie's made a point of looking like they were chatting with each other along the lines of "So did the Mrs. make that great stew for you last night?" and "Damn, broke a nail. Would you have a file?"
I’ll post the “Aussie Hakka” over in the “videos” thread and whatever you do do NOT tell any Kiwis that it is there!!
Drag is essentially a minstrel show. Where men dress up like clown versions of women to then be over the top and a caricature of women they're typically very sexual and full of both suggestive and direct meaning. That's what it is culturally.
There's no anti drag law. It's an attempt to make a law that a man wearing a thong can't shake his rump in front of a 7 year old it would seem pointless to make a lot about this but here we are seeing videos of men wearing thongs shaking their rumps in front of 7 year olds. It's creepy it's groomer behavior and it should absolutely not be tolerated. I think it's ridiculous we have to make laws about this
If they were bent over wearing thongs and shaking their rumps in front of 7 year olds that would be a problem. They're not trying to seduce or be seductive around 7-year-olds they're just doing their native dance.
You say nah but I'm absolutely correct whichever one was born with a penis. If that's none of them then I'm correct. And also they're not dressed in drag they're dressed like women. This is drag. Cross dressing isn't drag.
I've really never understood the point or the appeal of drag queens and drag shows. But I've never felt threatened by them either. Drag shows are the current culture war boogeyman. Each side needs things to be outraged about, but it also has to be easily digestible, like a snackpack, so folks don't have to pay too much attention to understand why they're supposed to be outraged. Attention spans are short these days and people are busy! Drag shows are tied in to the whole "groomer" fad but it's a lot quicker to get people upset at a drag show than it is to have to paint the convoluted picture that educators and librarians across the country are grooming children to be...well...I'm not sure, the arguments never get that far. Boogeyman status is achieved before any depth is needed, making it the perfect outrage snackpack.
Why would a grown man need to put on a song and nothing else and shake his rump in front of a 7 year old? What does he get out of that?
So it's just based on how you feel about it? There's enough video evidence. I'm going to ask you what I ask everyone else and I know you're not going to answer me. Why is it so important for drag Queen to perform in front of children?
What s annoying me big time is that the definition and idea of “groomer” is so warped now that real predators will not be recognised
Okay have you got any evidence - outside of a vivid and fertile imagination s that this is what is happening?
Define “perform” because as far as I can tell from what you are describing - that ain’t happening. I posted a video from Grace Tame who won an Australian of the Year. Grace was victimised and in the video she explains grooming. It does not exactly fit what you are describing
Do you have video evidence showing that this is a widespread problem? It's not important, I couldn't care less if a child ever saw a drag show. But, it's also not big deal. Like I said, I've never understood the appeal or the point of them, but I also see it as harmless except for the rare situations like you cited. I can condemn THAT kind of drag show, but I also don't have any idea how often it occurs. I suspect, like most internet outrage fads, that it's a handful of incidents blown up to give the impression millions of kid are being exposed to that kind of drag show. I'll condemn those that put on those shows where the example you cited occurs and the idiot parents that would take their kid to see it, but I can't and won't condemn all drag shows and drag queens without good reason. That'd be like condemning all movies and actors just because porn movies exist.
