True. My post assumes everybody here opposes actions like Saudi Arabia's support for terrorism and murdering journalists, or Iran developing an undetectable ICBM capable of reaching the U.S. But if you don't oppose that, I understand why you like our dependence on oil. The fact that you agree with the actions of those countries should be the topic for a different thread.
They were? Wow! You should tell that to my insurance company that pulled out of the state because of the tremendous increase in hurricane-related claims. In any case, this is where I stopped reading because it became obvious you are just making up crap. There was NO prediction of an in Hurricane activity. Scientists went out of their way to say that they had not found any evidence that the number of hurricanes would increase (which doesn't mean it wouldn't happen, just that they didn't find anything that would warrant saying that it would). But that the strength and, presumably, the amount of damage that those that did develop would cause, would increase.
I said no such thing that we shouldn't continue using fossil fuels. In fact, to stop fossil fuel use from one day to the next would be impossible, that's why RW talking points accusing Dems of this kind of wish are just pure garbage. Everyone knows that the world is dependent on oil, gas and coal. What I and others are advocating for is to slowly reduce this dependence on fossil fuels, instead of further increasing it by "drill baby, drill" kind of policies that may reduce gas prices in the short term, but would be devastating to the energy outlook of future generations. 80% of our energy use is from fossil fuels. This is way too much. We need to diversify and bring this down to 50-60% soon, and further down later. It is not safe for the biggest economy in the world to have 80% of its energy eggs in the fossil fuels basket. Diversification is king for a safe portfolio, everyone knows this from investing.
I just explained to another poster that no increase in frequency was ever predicted. Only in strength And, of course, there are many factors that influence the strength of a hurricane. For example, this year's "El Niño" will like produce a decrease in intensity. As for the rest, not sure what forest fires in the 19th Century or droughts in the early 20th century have to do with this thread. The deadly effects of AGW that were predicted have occurred in THIS century. Not before. However, this thread is not about AGW. It's about the fact that there are OTHER reasons (besides AGW) to do away with the world's dependency on oil
Can we do away with that pesky need to get work done? Or do we only need to do away with the energy we use to work? Because without oil there ain't a lot of work getting done.
Perhaps you can explain to us why "suddenly" and looking from the weather radar from weather and satellite imagery that these Canadian forrest fires all started at roughly the same time? Does it seem odd to you? And how, exactly, did the climate cause these fires? Did you perhaps have the "smoking gun" for why these fires started? So, literally, your litany of woes entirely ignores the actual evidence. Typical of folks like you for sure. But hey, you're just advocating that the average folks won't continue to enjoy freedom of movement, freedom to associate, etc. Just another day at the lets attack the people desk for you...
Exxon could build the syn-gas factories and make bank on it. I mean, I'd prefer more competition in the marketplace, but that'd be better than just banning gas powered cars before we have a viable replacement. Of course, no one is going to invest in something like syn-gas infrastructure if we keep electing virtue-signalling politicians vowing to ban gas engines...
As long as there is means to vegetation on this planet, there will be a source of oil I'm sure you have heard of Vegetable oil? Also see biodiesel Biodiesel - Wikipedia
Thats an argument for legalization, not an argument for more restrictions. By restricting things and then letting criminal and/or corrupt govt organizations monopolize them, we just make everything worse.
I've been down here since Andrew. Its was PLASTERED on every FL news source that Hurricanes were supposed be more numerous and dangerous EVERY year from then on. No matter how few hurricanes we had, next year was ALWAYS the BIG ONE. We went about 10 years barely getting hit at all. Then we had a bad year or 2, then nothing for a while again. And they STILL claim it'll be a "record year". I'm not making ANYTHING up. Unless you live here, YOU don't know crap. What the rest of the nation sees and what WE see are totally different. Yes, I'm sure I'm just making it all up, because I have nothing better to do=) And insurance has gone up because EVERYTHING has gone up, including the value of homes, sheer density of homes NOW compared to 20+ years ago, the cost to fix the damage. Yet, homes are built so much better now and more resistant to major damage..but its still more expensive. More aging homes not built to newer hurricane standards are getting wrecked each year. Seems a little off. You understand how insurance works right? Insurance should go DOWN when we go years without anything major hitting us, but insurance is insurance. They use the down years to cover the up years. We get screwed either way. My car insurance has gone up too? Why? Everyone is suddenly worse drivers now, hehe. Cars are more expensive and far more uninsured drivers roaming the streets, AND more density which means MORE accidents, which raises costs for the rest of us. They got us by the balls. The EXCUSE that "more" hurricanes is raising the costs is manipulated BS. They're raising costs because they can and we have NO CHOICE but to just take it. Just like we need to raise the debt ceiling to cover everything, because they keep SPENDING MORE. They create the problem and spend money to "fix" the problem they're creating. Don't fall for that ****. And lets face it, YOU are not exactly filled with accurate information and honesty. You cut and run or stick your fingers in your ears in most conversations whenever someone is putting you in your place.
I repeat -- "NOAA's HURDAT database shows that there has been no increase in the frequency of hurricanes or major hurricanes (Category 3 and over) since the start of the record in 1851.
Who tells you these lies?! Then you must have the conservatives of this forum on ignore. Demand should have pushed us there already, government investment is nessessary, because the market will wait for it to run out.
I don't know why you floridians don't just live in corrugated metal sided wood shacks like the rest of the tropics. The only weather you got to escape is the rain, not the snow. When the hurricane blows your shack away you just collect the corrugated metal that blew over to you from the shack down the way and build a new one. Instead, you got 20 million dollar mansions all along the barrier islands and every single one of these 20 million dollar mansions is insured for twenty million, pays a mere $30,000 a year in property taxes, and is lived in one month out of the year.
Because draught happened in those forests roughly the same time, I guess. This thread is not about forest fires.
Wait. So we are allowed to use anecdotal information to determine the validity of climate change? Before, I was almost positive that when examples where given that challenged climate change (formally global warming) that those few small examples don't accurately depict the overall picture. Guess we should probably drill for our own oil and be energy independent?
Insurance companies didn't expect Andrew to repeat in several decades. Now we have Andrews just about every year, even when they don't hit the most populated areas in full force. Insurance companies understand now that the predictions were accurate, and that they better cut their losses by either pulling out or increasing YOUR home insurance. In any case, why are we talking about hurricanes? Why is the right not worried about how our dependency on oil is allowing rogue nations to create weapons, support terrorism and... even buy the PGA....
Because then DeSantis wouldn't be able to collect property taxes to pay for his liability every time he is sued for violating human rights. He needs lots of our tax money, and too many wood shacks might not exceed Homestead Exemption. Fascism is expensive!
