I think a new word may be needed. What is the label for people who: 1. Call themselves anti-racist who actually engage in and endorse racism. I wish to distinguish from people who actually are anti-racist, regardless of the targeted race. 2. Call themselves Feminists, but also speak bigotry against men and seek discrimination against men. I wish to distinguish them from other Feminists who are egalitarian and care about all genders. 3. People who preach inclusiveness but actually demand exclusion, deplatforming, and that people whose views they find "problematic" be fired from jobs unrelated to such views. People who seek censorship of such "problematic" views. I think you know who I am talking about. The best term I can come up with is "woke left", but both "woke" and "left" actually mean other things. I wish to find a word that distinguishes the above people from "woke" meaning people who are aware of disparities and injustices in society. I wish to distinguish from liberals who are actually liberal, and for free speech etc. I wish to distinguish from people who actually are against racism, sexism, and other bigotry and prejudice, regardless of the target. And I am looking to distinguish from the economic leftists, pushing for things like universal health care, UBI, increased minimum wage, etc. There is a strong push by some on the right to confound these different people, who tend to parrot that "woke left" means "cultural marxism". One word that I have used instead of "woke left" is "illiberal". But even that doesn't do a great job, as it may be confused with anybody at all who is not-liberal or who is anti-liberal, and I don't want to confound the people I speak of with conservatives. "Politically Correct" is another word that has been used for this purpose, but it also isn't great at it, because it really means whatever plays well and makes people think they look good, and that can be very different from what these people push for. The Christian Right has had periods in which their views were politically correct, as did the war hawks who cheered for the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq post 9/11. So what is the best word to use here? I think it is vital for liberals to stand up and stop the "woke left" (need a better word) from taking over the left and from making everyone in the centre and on the right seem like they agree with these "illiberal", "politically correct", "woke leftists". To do that a better word is needed. English is not my first language. Is there a word that fits better that I am overlooking?
Democrats... first thing that came to mind. Plantationists... The irony that those who once were the side of liberty now being the voice of authoritarianism.....
There are people within the Democratic party who are not this way, and given the two party system, I would not want to brand half of it as being these people. I think that is both misleading and also makes it harder to change. For the same reason I never would have equated Reoublican and Religious, even during the peak of the Christian Right's sway on that party. Secular Republicans have always been around. I am also looking for a word that functions within and outside any particular country. This issue is global, not just American. I see it here in Canada too, and it is in Europe, Australia, etc.
Mainly Republicans, republicans, and RWers. They say they’re not racist but then they want to remove protections of any anti-discrimination laws applying to race.
agree, that is the word I would use too kinda like screaming for religious freedom, but only for ones own religion...
I agree a new word is needed or would be very convenient, but it is very hard to think about what that new term might be. Here are some thoughts: Progressive Leftist, Social-Liberal Activist, Western style Leftism, Totalitarian Left, a "Prog", Fascist-Prog maybe just call the ignorant mob activists "Screamers"
how about racist or misandrist when one crosses the line, they become what they hate we should all fight for equal rights, regardless of race, gender or religion
I don't understand how half the things you say make any sense. Or how things you say have much to do with the topic. Sometimes it seems like a random stream-of-consciousness as if it were coming from a Chatbot.
No. That would imply a person on the left pushing for left of centre values and calling it progress. That should be distinguished from claiming to oppose bigotry and yet endorsing it. No. That would mean things like bieng for the legalization of gay marriage, against bigotry against trans people, etc Note that being against bigotry against trans people does not necessarily mean being against women, wanting trans in women's sports, etc. It can just mean wanting them to be treated with respect, etc. No. That could mean the USSR or something, which should be distinguished from claiming to oppose bigotry and yet endorsing it. No. Like Progressive Leftist, that could just mean being on the left and calling it progress. Merely being on the left (even being on the authoritarian left) should be distinguished from claming to oppose bigotry and yet endorsing it. lol they usually are, but there are many other sorts of screamers, so this doesn't distinguish them.
What confused you with what was said, it wasn't an ambiguous statement and its on topic. Seems to be a you thing as your confusion is an isolated incident considering you completely misunderstood the OP as well based on the above response from jolly.
I think it is an excellent catch phrase. It says whoever is using it, hey look at me, I'm a right-winger who doesn't like being called out for my rude, insensitive or racist opinions.
I find it ironic how for some, (I won't name political parties or age generations), love to bestow their nicknames on others but hate it when others come up with new names for themselves. For examples we have names like crooked Hilary, orange Jesus, RINO, crazy Maxine, DeSantimonious, MAGA, orange stain etc... Most which have a derogatory meaning and is meant to insult the person or group. People don't think twice about these names and use them all the time but then some will have a meltdown when some people create terms like CIS or Trans gender, BAME, They, Them, BoPo etc... They are terms people want to refer to each other by or identify with and are not insulted by them at all but they cause an outrage simply because you don't want to use the terms or like others using them. One type is meant to offend and the other is welcomed.
Odd yes? The topic of the thread is broader than race, but the race component of it is about those claiming to want to end racism, who do it by pushing race identity and racial discrimination, and thereby create more racism. I would call it hypocrisy, but I don't think these people recognize it as such, so I'm not sure that's the word.
They're fascists. Just a new form. "Political correctness is just fascism pretending to be manners." -George Carlin
