1) what is the most reputable organization for veteran donations 2) is it possible to donate extra to a particular veteran or do a big donation and say (I'd like half to go anonymously to THIS veteran?
It isn't political (maybe I shouldn't have put it here, if you know best forum on here, please let me know) My vet neighbor is moving out and i just wanted to send a surprise I also was curious as to the best donation source for them As an ex-telemarketer i'm very aware of how corrupt the donation system is
I give to Air Force Aid. They appear to do a good job of getting the donations to the people who need it.
Charity navigator is my go to for cancer charities. They break down and rate them based on the amounts given to the cause https://www.charitynavigator.org/discover-charities/where-to-give/veteran-service-member-charities/
I donate to American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association, Disabled American Vets, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Uniform Services Organization - they all do great work for active duty and retired veterans. I don't think you a single out a specific vet, however.
Thanks all! I was probably naive in the singled out thing. I have his new address so i can figure it out, thanks for the information on these orgs
I donate to Paralyzed Veterans of America. As far as which one is the MOST reputable I don't have any clue, although that's a good question.
I am a member of Disabled American Veterans. They offered me a free membership because I am a 60 percent disabled veteran. They are a good organization. I have peripheral neuropathy, most likely caused by my exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. They helped me navigate through the paperwork required to get the 60% disability. After fighting with the VA since 2018 before finally being awarded disability in 2023, I stay as far away from the VA as possible.
There are some good charities and some bad charities. I'll also note -- isn't it a shame our government don't take extra special care of all the needs of every veteran?
