I'll go with medium, sooner or later they have to start paying people a decent wage. If the dont they will find less people to trade with eventually, that's what I think. You do not get, or keep respect by beating up on your people..... Hi Satan......
We can't resist the Chinese while at the same time fighting a civil war against the leftists at home. Focus on the leftists.
I just don't see China attacking there best customer in a war that would cost them more then they could ever gain.
The Chinese will keep us alive so we can be milked. They seek maximum advantage, not destruction of the enemy.
I do not see China as a real threat at all. Mostly because they lack the "legs" to have any real influence outside of any country that their borders do not touch.
It has an expansionist post WW2 history and current day potential, just because of their huge male population and strong nationalism. Without knowing what the future holds those things alone with its large military mean it has to be taken as a potential threat. I dont think transportation is a difficult to acquire capability, but as long as the US has a strong engaged military, then China would need a dramatic reason to be able to attempt anything too bad. Does anyone think that the US isnt the only thing stopping China from taking Taiwan or would a global trade embargo on Chinese exports actually work long enough to justify keeping China within its existing borders?
Dont ever underestimate the Chinese (it has been said that the next war will be fought in the East....though i cant remember who said that though!) As the worlds resources get scarcer, the major developed countries with their large greedy populations, will need to find the resources whether food, oil or gas from wherever they can get it, and that means invading other countries. I think we have already seen that!
I think most countries actually fall into the same medium range. Every nation has it's own agenda -- make ours get stronger both millitarily and economically. that's just how the game is played.
Keep your eyes open, they are working on that one. But, no need to panic. China is much more of an opportunity than a threat. Americans and Chinese are very much alike.
Not really. China's approach to increasing it's Navy is very slapdash. They are building carriers, but have very few support vessels which would be needed to guard and protect the carrier. They are building some amphibious warships, but apparently not doing any kind of training to enlarge their Marine Corps (actually the People's Liberation Army Marine Corps). And their new Amphibious ships will also not have the full support vessels needed to conduct operations. From what I have read, they can not even support 1 Carrier, or one battalion level amphibious force. And that would make a mighty tempting target to any submarines or air force that needed to strike a target. Before the PLAN becomes a serious threat, they need to greatly expand their fleet. They only have 1 Carrier, 1 Amphibious Ship, 2 Destroyers and 3 Frigates in their entire fleet. Those 5 surface combat ships would be a joke if anybody wanted to sink that carrier and amphib ship. Before they are a threat to anybody but their neighbors, they will have to increase their surfact fleet by at least 5 times it's current size. And even at that, they will only start to become a threat to any force larger then pirates.
No, it is not. They are following a Mahanian theoretical approach in the practical ways available to them in the present. It will be a long, long time before China's naval power is anywhere even remotely comparable to the US, but they are not just making it up as they go, and every incremental improvement they make has a very significant impact.
I agree, having read recent news comments, its been specified that the Chinese leader has made the modernisation of the PLAN Navy a major priority. Its not a question of how capable the Navy is now, but how it will be in say 10 years, there is a major Naval construction in progress now and the Chinese are working very hard to achieve a major force ASAP. Each year the capability of its warships are becoming more and more sophisticated.
It's extremely difficult to acquire. "Transportation" means heavy lift specially designed amphibious assault ships and the naval and airpower to protect them (aircraft carriers being the most important). It also means a fleet of heavy lift aircraft. Many Western European countries don't even have this capabiltiy....relying on U.S./NATO assets to get them to the battle field.
