Syrian troops fire during protests; 17 killed

"BEIRUT – Syrian security forces opened fire on protests around the country Friday in the latest sign the conflict could be moving toward a long and bloody stalemate as President Bashar Assad shrugged off tighter sanctions and U.S. calls to step aside. Activists said at least 17 people were killed, including a 10-year-old boy.

The clashes indicate neither side appears able to tip the scales in the two-month uprising. Assad's forces have waged a relentless crackdown on the opposition, but protesters continue to face down security forces with marches seeking to break the Syrian leader's authoritarian rule.

Human rights groups say more than 850 people have been killed in the clashes and clampdowns."

It is crucial that the West and all peoples of Conscience step in and take whatever action is needed to remove the completely illegitimate assad regime. This War Criminal regime has violated every single norm of civilized behavior, shooting unarmed women and children in the streets - and the World can no longer stand by while this mass slaughter is allowed to continue.

I agree with your sentiments....but with a proviso!

When America is training murderers, to shoot unarmed civilians even Assads soldiers, Assad can never win the propaganda war!

But the facts speak for themselves!

The criminals are in Washington.....surrounded by they're sponsors the Zionist cretins!
Civilised........bollocks......dime bombs Secret prisons, torture, rendition, crimes against humanity, assassinations, kidnap..........get your self a plum and do the need full!

In 1967 Israel demolished over one hundred Syrian villages and farms in the Golan Heights After the demolitions, the lands were given to Israeli settlers.

Not at all....The Jews are as much a prisoner to Zionism as we all are!
But the facts speak for themselves. American assassination squads work through out the world on there behalf!
Murdering nationals because they object to the destruction of there nation by American Zionists!

    http://www.presstv.ir/detail/197137.html

Bombing men women and children legally demonstrating against the injustices they suffer at the hands of the American puppets....aye that's Zionist and Christians for you!
Wonder where it says you can commit pogroms against those who stand up for there democratic rights!

    http://www.presstv.ir/detail/197149.html

But as you have little respect for those that living on the edges of society, by the American dictatorship....I wouldn't expect you to have any regards or understanding or morality or humanity other than that of the gutter!

But you have a nice day any ways!

865 killed in Egypt in 2 weeks
850 killed in Syria in 8 months

Why where the Egyptian killings not called a 'massacre' or 'slaughter' by the UN and EU and US and NATO?

That wasn't an estimated figure: that was a figure of confirmed deaths. The total is likely to be quite a bit higher, especially out in the boondocks where media or even camera phones are few and far between.

Oooh Margot.......its so easy to stoop to the lowest common denominator isn't it!!

But if Press Tv could be closed for bias.....trust me it would be......would it be good for your lot! Just your bias to the facts getting out!

Any moment now you'll be calling me anti-Semitic! The cry of the cretins!

Its a bit like crying wolf......when your lot keeps on murdering innocent men women and children, kidnapping, torturing, stealing body part, starving the population, imprison without trial, the blockade, cutting off the water supply......its wares a teeny weeny bit thin!

But you carry on your delusions, just don't expect me or any thinking individual to believe your nonsense!

Too bad the other countries in the region just stand around with their hand in their pockets digging for change. If the other countries in the region stepped up and helped out the Syrian people in their civil war, perhaps the Syrian people will be their allies when they overthrow the dictator. Because you know it will happen. But seeing that the other Arab Muslim countries can't support their own kind, a UN or NATO force may need to step in. Why don't the tailban and alqueda go after the rulers who are killing their own Muslim people? What kind of Muslims are they?

What kind of country lets their neighbor kill off their own people, those are the kinds of countries that should not be in the UN. Again, my Kudos to The countries that are taking in and supporting the Syrian refugees. But what about all the other countries.

Many Syrian's are extremely mindful of the potential pitfalls and consequences of any revolution. Many within the Arab and muslim world - particularly the Lebanese and the Egyptian's (but also the Iranian's) - are reluctant to help the Syrian's opposed to Asad on the basis that should he fall, there would be a possibility of pro-Western puppet regimes entering the fray of the kind that they themselves deposed (in the case of Egypt) or are resisting (in the case of Lebanon).

These nations are representative of an Arab nationalism which separates them from the Western puppet regimes that comprise the nations of the Arab League. In this sense, Syria (and Lenanon and Iran) is one of the few remaining bullwarks against Western imperialism. Both the Syrian's and their other Arab nationalist brothers are having to undertake a cost-benefit analysis. Are they better served by continuing on with the devil they know in the guise of their dictator, Asad, or do they risk overthrowing him, thereby playing into the hands of the West who would likely install and even more brutal dictator? A third possibly, is the creation of a genuine Turkish style modern democracy.

This is the conundrum they face. They are well aware that alongside Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq, their country is part of the 'US axis of evil' PNAC propaganda offensive. The latter two have already succumed to the US and they are aware that they could be the next domino to fall should Asad be overthrown.
