Ex-President Clinton: Green movement needs money Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday that the success of the alternative energy movement is hampered by a lack of financing. His comments came as world leaders attending his annual philanthropic conference expressed fears about rising seas. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/storie...ME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2011-09-20-19-46-51 Bwahahahha!! Good luck with that, Bill. You'd have better luck trying to get Hillary to live in the same house with you. _
He's right.. we don't have the will or the money to develop green energy so we will continue to fall behind other countries.
$50M?!?!?!? Piker! Solyndra burned through ten times that amount and they only had 1000 employees. $50 million is total chump change in the green jobs department.
Obama has thrown a lot of other people's money at green energy. Where's the payoff? (I mean other than Obama's looming defeat in 2012) _
Insight of the day! For a cool half a billion peed away by Solyndra we may have saved the country from certain doom. Cheap at literally 10,000 times the price.
Renewable energy is currently not profitable. However, natural gas is a profitable alternative energy source, but not a renewable energy source. It produces less air pollutants than oil, and it is just as plentiful as oil. There's about 1700-1900 trillion cubic feet in domestic natural gas reserves, which is at most 100 trillion cubic feet less than domestic oil reserves.
Green energy is not ready for prime time. There isnt that huge of a demand for it here like fossil fuels.Plus, its too expensive to manufacture here.China can mine the materials for solar energy cells since they have less stricter regulations than we do,and they can manufacture and sell them for a cheaper price than we can.
GUL, we can do what Germany did, drive up the prices of energy till solar can compete. Someone posted a thread about how solar in the EU was breaking even with other energy, $.25 kWh. I'm paying $.08 a kWh.
Natural gas is not renewable, but methane is. Large amounts of methane can be produced by the breakdown of waste and garbage. That methane can power the same infrastructure that natural gas can power. Converting a lot of our infrastructure over to natural gas would be a great step toward both energy independence and toward a more renewable power system.
Which is why I decribed it as "alternative energy", not renewable energy. Furthermore, methane is one of the worst ideas for an alternative energy source.
J, the liberals produce copious amounts of methane. Heck we could likely run the White House for a month on just one Obama speech.
Tell him to sell those "green chip" stocks or cut them into 4" squares and keep 'em in the Loo in case the paper runs out.
He made 40 million on his first venture.. and he didn't need any government money then either. While you all attack each other, (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) and roll around in pseudo science.. there are others who are actually doing the work.
Oh bull (*)(*)(*)(*)! Europe and/or China are not going to just magically come out one day with some breakthrough in Green technology that is going to make Fossil Fuels obsolete over night! Those people are incapable of that level of innovation becuase their society and culture discourages innovation and wealth building. Only Americans can innovate on that level because they have the economic freedom and financial incentives to do so. But it has to come NATURALLY. WE CANNOT FORCE GREEN ENERGY. IT WON'T HAPPEN. China is wasting huge sums of money in State controlled industries. That is all it's doing. It's a giant circle jerk. Green Technology on the scales that people are expecting is going to take at least another 2 decades or more to mature. The problem is environuts are trying to force the issue early, as if somehow if you just waste enough money, or give rent seeking green industrialists everything they want, Fossil Fuels will be suddenly extinct in 10 years. That is bull (*)(*)(*)(*) and dream world utopian thinking. Green Technology as of right now is NOTHING BUT A HOBBY NICHE and that is all it will be for decades to come.
German electricity is $.40 / KWH. At that price you could hire a kid on a stationary bike rigged with a generator and come out ahead.
