Well, it seems as if Obamacare is at last on its death bed. Without the "individual mandate" in place, the signature legislation of the Obama administration will not have sufficient funds from policyholders to continue its existence. The House of Representatives and the Senate will never allocate additional funding to make up for the shortfall in getting Obamacare up and running. What were the Democrats thinking? Congress never before in its history sought to "require the purchase of wheat or war bonds, force a higher savings rate or greater consumption of American goods, or require every American to purchase a more fuel efficient vehicle." Why on earth would Pelosi and Reid think heath insurance should be any different?
Health care costs goin' up in spite of Obamacare... Obamacare Has Increased Cost of Health Insurance, Says Kaiser Foundation September 27, 2011 According to a Kaiser Family Foundation study of employer-provided health insurance plans, the ObamaCare health reform law could have accounted for as much as 50 percent of the spike in insurance premiums in 2011.
Yes the WSJ Editorial Page commented on that too in their piece on the Ryan alliterative. "This reality was underscored by yesterday's Kaiser Family Foundation survey that found employer-sponsored premiums have jumped 9% for families and 8% for individuals since 2010, when the growth rate was about 3% over 2009. Much of this surge is due to ObamaCare's new coverage mandates, and in anticipation of insurers becoming public utilities with government imposing price controls on rates. But it also shows that health care exists in a different economic universe than other businesses, even amid the current stagnation, due in large part to the tax subsidies for third-party payers that don't exist for individuals who buy insurance." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...01411227880.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_AboveLEFTTop
I can't think of any single piece of legislation more odious, more unconstitutional and more dishonest in it's conception, execution and sale to the public than Obama Care. And it couldn't have come from anyone else but Obama. It's been a nightmare (again, like Obama) and I pray this decision helps drive a stake through the heart of this monster. We can do much better instituting smaller market based reforms.
You are very correct, Yosh Shmenge. Ialso pray this decision helps drive a stake through the heart of this monster.
The individual mandate is one of the most odious and unconstitutional things I've ever seen, as well. The Founders realized that for Man and Americans to be free, rights and responsibilities MUST emanate from the individual, not the State. The individual mandate completely turns that on its head - now the State will dictate to the Individual what his/her rights and responsibilities are. We're talking about a profound, fundamental change here...
If this thing fails Obamessiah will get another term. Americans want more freebies from uncle sam. This nation has lost its roots and will never recover.
you are very correct, Talon. "Socialists cry "Power to the people", and raise the clenched fist as they say it. We all know what they really mean power over people, power to the State." -- Margaret Thatcher Socialism is great if you are willing to accept a much reduced standard of living and an oppressive central government who is always telling you what to do and how to live your life to the benefit of the state!
