Is DOUBLE racist! When will people learn? It is racist against whites, because it gives another race an advantage. It ALSO is racist against blacks, because it assumes that black people aren't good enough to make it on their own, which just isnt true.
Affirmative action is but poor vocab for 'positive discrimination'. Its essentially use of 'theory of the second best'. Those against it are against efficiency and typically are hampered by authoritarianism
Why is it against efficiency? Wouldn't the most efficient solution be for the best person to get the job regardless of race, sex etc?
Already said. The first best isn't achievable (as shown by the relative failure of equal pay legislation). The second best then dominates. To ignore continued discrimination is certainly a tacit support for economic inefficiency
Yes, as shown by continued inefficient wage differentials and the inaccuracy of the Becker 'taste for discrimination' (which suggests that market forces will benefit the non-discriminator)
white women have been the lead group of AA . I don't like AA but your facts are wrong in this case , I however agree that people of color can make it own there own. http://www.ncsu.edu/project/oeo-training/aa/beneficiaries.htm
The problem is that you're typing without knowledge. We know that discrimination continues (that's confirmed by the decomposition methodology inspired by Oaxaca/Ransom). We also know that the Becker approach assumes that profits are forgone because of employer tastes. That means, without substantial monopoly power to hinder market forces, we only have an explanation for short term discrimination.
It has caused a lot of damage. It preserves inequality rather than eliminate it. It's mainly used a political tool to keep a certain group of people down or 'on the plantation' as some have described it.
LOL! You're always good for a laugh. But for anyone else who might be interested, this is a great read: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Affirmative-Action-Around-World-Empirical/dp/0300101996"]Affirmative Action Around the World: An Empirical Study[/ame]
Try harder! I want you to refer directly to an empirical study. Please provide author(s), title, journal, volume and page numbers
ANYONE who claims they haven't a racist bone in their body...is LYING! Every human harbours racist feelings toward someone. And that's NATURAL. Humans tend to shun those who are different and strange. Its a defense mechanism. Affirmative Action is an attempt to force humans to do things against their natural instincts. This is a lost cause. Ya want REAL Affirmative Action? Clean-up the Ghettos and educate ALL people equally.
Its an attempt at improving economic efficiency and its found to be successful. Those that argue against it display the true nature of their authoritarianism: where, due to that authoritarian personality trait, they want to coerce economic losses on us all
Oh give us a break... I could see how it would have a positive economic effect in some cases...but harmful in others. But that was not my point...and your attempt to redirect and make me out to be some sort of authoritarian is way off the mark. I stated facts...you can either discuss these facts with me or not. But I will thank you to keep your half-baked name-calling BS to yourself thank you very much...
No you didn't. You gave a dogmatic rant. I see that you're actually incapable of providing any empirical study. I'm not so hampered. I'm of course prepared to consider analysis that looks at hypothetical negative effects from affirmative action, such as the mismatch hypothesis and the stigma hypothesis. End result? Your position is still rejected as empty prance. See, for example, Fischer and Massey (2007, The effects of affirmative action in higher education, Social Science Research, Vol 36, pp 531-549) who- adopting an empirical analysis I asked you to refer to- make the following remark: "Our ultimate conclusion, therefore, is that despite a complex mix of offsetting effects, affirmative action as currently practiced carries a clear benefit for minority students and that the potential to achieve even greater benefits in the future is considerable"
No you didn't. You made shallow remark that ignored the available analysis into positive discrimination
So you do not think humans shun people who are different that they are? Boy...that must be some fantasy world you live in.
