Is there a single country that does not have any 'negatives' to its past?

A lot of people come to this forum, foreign or not, and bash America's past, as if it is relevant. Examples include slavery, killing people, and native Americans.

After working and living on a Indian reservation, I can promise you there is no difference between the US's aggressive military expansion compared to the several native tribes who also slaughtered each other for land. America merely won out against these tribes, and there should be no shame applied to this past of American history. Survival of the fittest?

Not many European countries who didn't use slaves. Hitler and Stalin were two leaders who enforced slavery but there might be a more recent European period of slavery I haven't mentioned.

Every time I hear a Japanese complain about the nuclear bombs, I look at him and wonder, don't you know it was your nation that took the gamble to pick a fight with the US? (and got owned!)

Any countries withOUT a relative history? The only countries that come to mind for me are Switzerland and . . . Iceland?

And don't say Canada because of the native removal they had as well.

The Swiss knowingly took money that was stolen from the Jews, and others, of Europe and kept it safe for the Nazis. They also sold (*)(*)(*)(*) to the Nazis.

The Swiss were also cowards who hid behind the veil of neutrality while aidng and trading with both Allied and Axis nations during the war......It's not so hard to see them partaking in contraband trading.

And as for Iceland......... um........ in Eve Online a developer belonged to a corp and he used his developer powers to give his corp a lot of Titan blueprints, which are worth billions of ISK in the game. Tsk tsk tsk. Such a shady past Iceland has.

I've had to study Iceland in depth for a history class and they are relatively free from any negatives as a nation. They were mostly being screwed over by the Dutch since their inception and only relatively recently gained their independence. So yeah they would count.

    Keyword 'relatively'.

The answer is still no because countries are made up of people. And there isn't a single person on this Earth without negatives.

The question wasn't about people it was about countries.

And are you going to say with a straight face that Iceland does not have any negatives to its past?

Yes. If you do find any negatives you can attribute it to the Dutch who had official control over Iceland until after world war 2

That's because their fishing rights and banks have been decimated by the European Union.

Excessive debt will catch up with even the healthiest of economies when, regardless of the particulars, there's no more magic money available to feed the debt pyramid's expansion reservoir pumps.

The only questions, surely, are 'Who is behaving piggishly NOW? How can we stop them?'

If that's the question, then the answer is the international community, surely. :)

As my first post here, I would like to place forward, the nomination of the Dominion of Newfoundland. From 1907-1934 the Newfies were in a state of perfection, free of all crimes and in a state of eternal bliss.

Of course in 1934 due to a few programming and accounting errors on the early Newfie computers we found ourselves bankrupt and fell from grace and were once again under the evil and henious British rule. Later in 1949 we joined the equally evil Canada as a mere province.

We cannot speak for anything prior to 1907 as we were not a nation.

So clearly the Dominion of Newfoundland was at no time during its short existance negative in anyway.

In fact in St. Johns harbour, they say that during winter one could walk across the harbour without falling into the water. That surely is a sign of our peity.

Right - but we should start, I think, with the most powerful. If we stop them the others will stop too.

Why discriminate? All too often it's the international community calling on Big Brother for the rescue. Is it the parents fault for giving in to their children nagging them to take them to the icecream shop? Sure, they must take responsibility, but how do you suggest we quiet the children?

Not at all: fight the big bully and the hangers-on will run. End of story.
