The object in question is far too small to destroy a serious country much less the world. As most of the world is water, an impact in the ocean is most likely and then stand by for Tsunami's like we have not seen in a very long time.

It could result in a period without power and food would be scare in the area for weeks so preparing is always a good idea.

This rock is far too small to be an extinction-level killer. It would be bad enough--worse than any nuclear weapon ever detonated, I'd bet--but it wouldn't be that bad. And who stocks nothing but beans? The idea is to survive until things settle down, not gas each other out of the house.:fart:

    Baked beans = tinned goods.

Every bomb shleter needs beans. Of course the smell be horrible. But better than radiation poisening.

It also toughen up the occupants for the battle with the giant insects when time to go outside.

I will say that Katrina was an eye-opener for me. My attitude towards guns changed dramatically (suddenly I wanted one or two).

We had an ice storm here about three years back that was an eye opener as well. Totally destroyed almost all electricity in a metro of 800,000 population or so. Its an eery experience to be amongst 100's of people stuck in a completely pitch black city in front of a dark grocery store being guarded by people with guns.... trying to shop for batteries and candles that don't exist.

It is pretty amazing how important batteries and candles are when civilization falls.

The United States has enough natural disasters....that we realize the need for prep.

But yes...there are the crazies that get caught up in it all. They are the people that will have the batteries and candles I will be looking for.

These pages amaze me. As for gun control, I read somewhere that a child under 15 has more chance of being accidentally shot in the USA then it has being killed by any method in any other western country. End of story, aren't your children worth more then your right to bare weapons???

What you read was crap....drowning, car crashes, fire, falling, poisoning and a few dozen more causes top firearms deaths for actual children 15 and under.

    Here is the leading cause

    http://www.safekids.org/our-work/news-press/press-releases/drowning-is-the-leading-cause.html

If one excludes gang and drug related deaths from gun stats, then actual child accidental deaths fall to under 1 a day...

Wait for the 'you've got more chance of drowning in a pool, should we ban swimming pools?' statistic-filled response, and typical of the diversionary 'logic' employed by your average gun advocate.
Let them all shoot each other for all I care. For a so-called advanced western nation they sure do a great job of demonstrating what a backward frontier mentality they really have.

I agree. It's okay to prep, but don't go to the extreme.

Seventy-seven percent of homicide victims between the ages of 15 and 24 die from gun violence, the vast majority of it in cities--where, oddly enough, the strictest gun laws are generally in place. And, curiously enough, it would appear the majority of the people harmed by guns are not innocent children but youthful criminals living in cities who acquired their weapons through illegal means--in cities via the local black market or simply stolen--and were injured or killed while actively participating in a crime in--you guessed it!--in a city.

Maybe we should just ban the cities instead? (And, yes, I posted it. Solely because of the swimming pool comment above.)

The death of a child is no joke, nor should we be taking it as lightly as even I do with this post. Gun violence is high in cities, and it is mostly a crime committed by youth--but the problem is not location or even the weapon used, it's the decision made by the criminal to commit the crime int the first place. You want to change the world? Figure out how to how to change that decision making process.

Seems like every other advanced western nation has it figured out, and yet it is far to complicated for the simpletons running your country. Ban guns.

You see the difference between prepared and paranoid...but you fail to note history is full of paranoids who have been found right..prophets if you will, and on the odd occasion when something does happen, the paranoid are the most likely to survive.

Yea, that will work...the 200,000,000 or so guns already in society will disappear overnight and folk with the firm commitment to protecting themselves ans their rights will meekly obey, as will the universe of violent criminals...

    Good work with that.

200 million guns! That is completely obscene.

I have spent too much time in the real world, on 4 continents, to buy into the 'world is a place of fuzzy bunnies and benevolent, but efficient, government.

Someone once wrote that all a liberal is is a fellow who has yet to be mugged.

I suspect you have yet to confront bad folk and therefore, believe they do not exist, at least in your world...

Most folk are lucky enough to NOT ever face reality, but those who do seldom remain Liberals.

At least the US can't be invaded, the citizenship would be more heavily armed than any invading army. Likewise without the direct and explicit support from the majority of citizens, no government overthrow could take place.

All for the low low price of 15,000 or so murders and 17,000 suicides by guns per year.

In Australia, liberals are the right, and I am definitely left.

Good for you, you are one of the small number of Americans that have travelled. So have I, and to the states, which by the way is where I was mugged for the one and only time, poor fellow though, picked someone who had been a member of the armed forces and he lost. Gave my wife a heart attack nearly though, but what can you expect from such a disease riddled country, oozing with guns and hatred.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

I personally prefer peace, seen to much of everything else.

But good work, keep collecting guns if it makes you feel better, sheesh, silly people.

And yet my point remains...despite being many, many times larger than Australia, despite having a vastly more diverse population, and despite having more guns than you folk have sheep, our violent crime rate is dropping and you cannot say the same....

It is an illness -- ingrained and mentally equivalent to a reflex action .
You cannot expect a patient to fully understand a complex challenged position and you cannot break conditioned behaviours easily or quickly .
They lack perspective to see how damaged their national psyche is .
Ironically they now pursue a strategy of continuous global war fare , never ever winning , but still see no problems .
History might label them as Death Comedians , to partly highlight their non existent sense of humour and self awareness.

Yes, I can imagine the stalwart, fearless populace facing up to a trained army with their tanks, gunships, heavy artillery, bombers...I'm sure they'd do really well:disbelief:

Dropping to what? 5, 10 times that of any other western nation? Yep, that's real progress. Still, all is not lost, you're just beating the Phillipines...

Americans love guns, it is a excercise in fulitiy to even attempt to disagree with it (on this forum)

It is mythology in their constitution, freedom to bear arms but all original intent has been lost. Over the centuries it has warped to a gung ho belief for amatuer militias to fight the goverment before horrifcly shot to death by the real military. But it doesn't matter they will do it anyway.

I'm American, and I don't love guns... the barrel diameter isn't large enough :D
