I am very aware of the facts. That my European ancestors took over the lands of the indigenious peoples of the America's and slaughtered millions of them is a fact. Not my fault, but a fact.

It is also a fact that the indigenious descendents of the Mayans have no claim to Texas. They never had, never made that claim.

It is also a fact that there exists the countries of Mexico and the United States. Regardless of what you would like to pretend, the current countries are the reality.

The illegal immigrants who come to the U.S. are illegal- whether they come from Mexican descendents of Europeans or Mexican descendents of the Mayans, or on a boat from Ireland or China.

The descendents of the Mayans have no claim on our land. Never had, never will except as legal American citizens.

I don't want to have to compete for jobs with third world applicants. Open up jobs to foreigners will mean more Americans living on the streets or stuffed together in bamboo huts.

Well, are you applying for a position in picking fruit? Or are you an aspiring dish washer at a local restaurant? Or maybe you construct buildings? In any of those cases, I totally understand your fears! Illegals only take the jobs that the Americans won't. You're not going to find any illegal business owners or CEO's. You won't find any in your local HR department. However, if you are drinking orange juice while reading this post, you should probably spit it out quickly because most fruit is picked by illegals now.

Myth!!!!!! They take jobs at PAYS that Americans can't live on. If those jobs paid more Americans would do them. It's called supply and demand. When your supply of American workers shrink below the numbers of jobs you have, you raise the pay and they will come.

I think that he has some good points. Start with strict enforcement of all laws and cessation of benefits, before we start granting what basically comes down to amnesty (though I do think its a better choice than amnesty granting citizenship). We may not be able to deport all of them, but we can sure start with deporting the illegal prisoners costing 1.2 BILLION dollars a year to keep in US prisons- http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d05337r.pdf Then stop the benefits to non legal citizens. 1.6 BILLION a year in LA County alone - http://antonovich.com/welfare-costs...-aliens-exceeds-100-million-in-june-and-july/. I think that many would simply self deport. Any remaining illegals wanting to stay here would choose to do so knowing they would not be eligible for benefits. Then offer the registration program for those working here who wish to stay. Supplement lost farm labor with prisoners to ensure stable food costs.

Hundreds line up for jobs "Americans won't do" (w/video)

A recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement audit of Pro’s Ranch Markets in Phoenix, has resulted in the firing of 300 illegal aliens. The federal audit discovered that 20 percent of the company’s workforce were living and working in the country illegally.

Julie Pace, an attorney for Pro’s Ranch Market claims the illegal aliens, presented forged documentation at the time they were hired.

Pace said: “We complied with all the requirements, but they were still able to slip through.”

Pro’s Ranch Market operates six stores in the Phoenix area.

Since the illegal aliens were fired, local residents have been flooding into the stores, applying for the job openings.

HUNDREDS LINE UP FOR “THE JOBS AMERICANS WON’T DO”

GREELEY – The line of applicants hoping to fill jobs vacated by undocumented workers taken away by immigration agents at the Swift & Co. meat-processing plant earlier this week was out the door Thursday.
Greg Bonifacio heard about the job openings on television and brought his passport, his Colorado driver’s license, his Social Security card and even a color photograph of himself as a young Naval officer to prove his military service.

And we also pay to educate their children, and for them to have free healthcare, food stamps, housing assistance...meanwhile they pay no income tax to contribute that system. If we are truly concerned about not having those jobs filled, lets put the prisoners to work in those jobs. Food costs go down. More for all American citizens. No jobs and no benefits for illegals, they stop coming here.

On Monday, August 25, "the largest single-workplace immigration raid in U.S. history" took place in Laurel, Mississippi. 595 workers suspected of being in the country illegally were detained.

Traditional media coverage, including this Associated Press item carried in USA Today, was predictably sympathetic towards those who were detained and their families.

But, as yours truly noted was the case with the Swift Co. raids in the spring of 2007 (posted at NewsBusters; at BizzyBlog), there was even less national media interest in what happened after that.

The Clarion, Mississippi's statewide newspaper, is the only outlet I found that considered the following worthy of publication as a standalone story:

Applicants line up to fill jobs open after plant raid

Howard Industries found itself at the center of activity again Tuesday.

Hundreds of job applicants lined up, eager to take advantage of the sudden job openings at the plant located in Jones County, where the unemployment rate is 6.3 percent.

ICE agents on Monday seized 595 plant workers suspected of being in the country illegally. Several workers, who did not identify themselves, said Tuesday they were working and trying to keep the plant operational in the wake of the sudden loss of co-workers.

They said it was common knowledge many of their co-workers were suspected to be illegal.

It's an idea that maddens Samantha Stevens, 18, of Heidelberg, who was among those who pulled up to Avenue A across from the plant's entrance throughout the day. She said she has been unable to find a job since she graduated from Heidelberg High School in the spring and blames, in part, the willingness of companies to hire illegal workers.

"We were here first. It's not fair for them to have a job," she explained.

Others welcomed the vacancies left by the detained workers.

Gwendolyn Watkins, 40, of Stonewall said she drove 40 miles to Laurel to fill out an application with the electronics maker.

    Imagine that.

You also can't help but notice that many, if not most, of the new applicants pictured above are African-Americans. How is it that self-appointed African-American leaders are expending more energy these days on "protecting" illegals insteadn of focusing on African-American citizens' well-being?

Other downplayed elements relating to what happened in Laurel included the reactions of many workers as the raids were raking place, and what initiated the plant investigation. In the middle of an oh-so-typical follow-up sob story ("Fear grips immigrants after Miss. plant raid") on August 27, the AP did manage squeeze answers to those items into the eighth paragraph:

The system itself is fine, it's only a problem when you throw in free medical care, social security, unemployment pensions, child tax credits, EITC, etc...

I would argue that most of the things you list are here to stay, so the only practical solution is to amend citizenship by birth.

Besides, it would put us in line with almost every other nation.

Our system is kind of ironic in its leniency concerning citizenship while being very strict about being born here in order to enter the presidency.

I would argue that it should be the other way around. Tighten citizenship requirements concerning birth, but open up the presidency to foreign born citizens.

I'd agree, my point is that open borders or citizenship by birth are not fundamentally flawed. They're a flaw because of "benefits" we attached to them just a few generations ago.

Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa, said he regretted voting for the 1986 measure.

“I thought then that taking care of three million people illegally in the country would solve the problem once and for all,” Mr. Grassley said. “I found out, however, if you reward illegality, you get more of it. Today, as everybody has generally agreed, we have 12 million people here illegally.”The 1986 law was a product of more than five years’ work by Senator Alan K. Simpson, Republican of Wyoming, and Representative Romano L. Mazzoli, Democrat of Kentucky. Both left Congress more than a decade ago.

Senator Byron L. Dorgan, Democrat of North Dakota, said: “I was here in Congress in 1986. I heard all the promises of the Simpson-Mazzoli Act. None of them were true, and three million people got amnesty. There was no border security to speak of, no employer sanctions to speak of, and there was no enforcement.”
