What occurs to me is that this kind of stupidity is frequently on forums like these and nutty blogs that develop a cult following. I wonder if this lead this organization to become so deluded into thinking that such a message would somehow resonate and be anything other than a massive PR disaster.

Interesting to compare the response of Heartland to that of the "Ten Ten" campaign that aired the joke video about exploding people - which ran for one day, was pulled and an apology given

 

About the only things they had in common was a poor assumption on how it would be received among a broad audience, the 10:10 authors failing to understand that not everyone gets Monty Python style of dark comedy and those that didn't would be very offended. The Heartland Institute failure was vastly more profound, on the intellectual level of 3rd grade schoolyard bullies.

This is the SAME person who engineered the "Swift boat" campaign, was implicated in the CRU email hacking, was employed by Sen. Inhofe to manufacture doubt on climate science, and has been publishing the email addresses of climate scientists and encouraging people to "contact them and tell them how they feel about scientists falsifying results" etc In other words a class act - I don't think

It is great to see the right wing play the same game the left does. As usual, the left thinks a sword should only cut one way, but when their own tactics are used against them, they fall apart, and even threaten people, just like they threatened donors to the Heartland Institute. Oh well, the message got out, it was up long enough to prove what intolerant, anti-1st amendment, close-minded and fragile people left-wingers really are when confronted with FACT!!!

Absolutely believe we are experiencing climate change and the cause is rise in greenhouse gases caused by man

 

I thought that this thread was going to prove once and for all that man is responsible for global warming. I'm happy to see that that myth still remains a myth.

The question has never been whether climate change is occurring or can occur without human intervention. Geological records and astronomical measurements of the sun both say that it happens independent of human civilization. The real question is, does man's industrialization of the world speed it up? Of course it does. We're been continuously pumping vast amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere for over 200 years. In the last century we added massive deforestation, including large swatches of the rainforests who are responsible for far more greenhouse gas regulation than your average forest does, and that defortestation continues unabated.

We are destroying our planets ability to regulate the gasses we are pumping tons and tons of into the atmosphere every day. The Earth is not indestructible. But since dealing with the problem head on would require massive economic investment, it's deemed a nuisance and denied, partially because it's the left that champions this, so it gets denied on purely political rivalry as well.

The most ironic thing I've ever seen was this:

In a church I was at for a wedding, they had a bulletin board. On that bulletin board were several print-outs posted by somebody at the church talking about global warming and how it was "imaginary science for which there is simply no proof". I read this...standing in a church...and the irony hit me like a million freight trains.

 

Then they turn around and accuse us of being in a "religious fervour" over climate change

 

Huh? One billboard by a small group represents "the right"?
