I think ObamaCare sucks and I'm confident the USSC will find the mandate UnConstitutional. Good. It's horrible. Basically, the goal was to address the problems of people not being able to afford health care or insurance, and insurance companies gouging the heck out of clients while systematically engaging in unethical business practices such as denying benefits to those who should have received them (if you name a major insurance carrier, you've just named a company that has been found guilty on several occasions of exactly that).

So what did the Dems give us? A solution that does nothing to assuage the affordibility of health insurance, penalizes those unable to afford it, guarantees insurance companies more clients while simultaneously giving them carte blanche to increase premiums and does nothing to address the denial of benefits. WTF???

So buried in the 2000 pages are two things I like: Not denying due to pre-existing conditions and covering kids through college. That's it. We could have eliminated 1,998 pages. Brilliant.

So Libdems, let's hear your case for this disaster. Besides the two items I mentioned, how do you defend this POS policy? And please, let's not go with the "It's better than nothing." What specifically is GOOD about it?

The expansion of medical benefits to the poor would be the only good besides what you mentioned. Dislike is far to mild of a word for my feelings about the individual mandate. However I do not share your opinion it will be found unconstitutional, I hope you are correct in that assessment but personally I do not believe they will strike it down.

The only thing good about ObamaCare....will not good, but certainly a "facepalm" moment......is that it brought us the catchy phrase:

"We have to pass this bill before we know what is in it".

What I like about obamacare is the fact that it has united more voters than ever before (as well as re-energizing the Tea Partiers) into a near frenzy so as to put a stop to that socialism madness.

On principle, its great but the implementation is far from perfect. It should not be torn down completely but modified where needed. Obama's not the man to do it but he can use a team of experts to help deal with the issue.

I certainly don't trust any "team of experts" that Obama would appoint. Although I don't think it's likely, the best outcome would be for the SC to strike down the whole thing so we can start from scratch.

I like how it leaves no doubt that Obama hates America and the constitution.

It would still be better than having Mittens in the White House. His motto really should be:
"Of the 1%, for the 1% and by the 1%(their money actually)"

You summed up my concerns and misgivings pretty well. I don't think it's a good idea.

Allowing kids to stay on their parents insurance until 26, and not denying insurance to those with preexisting conditions.

Other than that... not much. I see the individual mandate as quasi-fascist. As a socialist, I think we should go single payer (way to go Vermont), and I think that would have squashed any questions on constitutionality.

Since when did the poor not have medical benefits? Every time I go to the emergency room it is filled with illegal hispanics and their U.S. citizen kids who are getting free medical care through "PeachCare" here in Georgia. Also, a large percentage of my property taxes got to Grady Memorial Hospital which takes care of all the blacks that don't bother to have health insurance.

Doing away with the pre-existing condition rules, kids staying on the parents policy until 26 and doing away with the lifetime maximum are all good things which help the responsible people who are already paying for everybody's health care anyway. As best I can tell Obamacare forces more of the middle class to sign up to do a better job of taking care of the non-responsible people. How is the government going to force some illegal alien or homeless black guy in downtown Atlatna to sign up and pay for health insurance? Its ludicrous....those irresponsible folks will just keep doing what they are doing....and I'll be paying for it....probably at a higher rate.

I like that it was written by such partisan hacks that it will not pass Constitutional muster, thus allowing Conservatives to galvanize momentum behind destroying Big Government initiatives, and wasting a ton of leftist time in the meanwhile.

    What's good about Obamacare.

Well, this bill highlights that democrats in congress are just as much about cronyism as their republican counterparts.

What's also great about this bill, it will great to see Obama's landmark legislation unravel before his very eyes, when the USSC shoots down the individual mandate.

By giving them the ability to go to doctors that would free up space in the emergency rooms so 12-20 hour waits would not be as common for actual emergencies. I believe the illegals will still have to go the emergency room route, last I read on it.

While the elimination of charging more for pre-existing conditions is good for those that needs it, it is what makes the individual mandate needed. They must make the healthy young people buy something they may not need and allows others to wait till they need treatment to buy insurance. So it is actually forcing the young and healthy to pay for the old and sick. Which is how most income redistribution is done in the US.

I am opposed to the ACA I hope it is struck down but personally doubt it will be. If it stays in place I believe freeing up space in the emergency rooms will be the best thing about it. However without a massive increase in doctors accepting medicaid it will be extremely hard to get a appointment so it may have little effect there as well. I suppose if indeed it stays intact the best thing will be I can wait till I am sick and buy insurance that way I avoid the higher premiums that will surely come with it.

Gee, I like the individual mandate. It means I'll no longer be stuck with the medical bills of people who exercise their "constitutional right" (if the SCOTUS repubs get their way) to not buy health insurance.

Meanwhile, these same people thank all you 'baggers out there willing to pick up their tab in the name of individual liberty.

I am not sure I understand your post, but the fines for not buying insurance are far cheaper than the premiums. If the ACA is upheld premiums will go up, if the individual mandate is struck down premiums will sky-rocket. I doubt you will be happy with the result either way.

Because, Tex, there are laws in all states that require healthcare providers to treat people who don't have the means to pay. That means higher insurance premiums for you and me to cover their care. And also higher healthcare provider billing to cover the cost of treating these people.

Of course, these laws can be repealed and we can just let people without health insurance die in the street. But that's a different issue.

Yes and that will still exist since to my knowledge illegals are not covered under the ACA. What you pay now will not go down with Obamacare even the economist who at the time said it would lower premiums has since said it will increase them by 20-30% because the fine is not enough to force people to buy coverage. So they will simple wait to buy insurance when they are sick. So the main difference will be young people who more than likely will not need insurance will be forced to pay a fine or pay the same rate as a 60 year old cancer patient pays. So if you are elderly and sick rates may drop for you but for most they will rise.

I do not wish to see people left to die in the streets but I honestly do not feel the ACA was the correct path to take. Almost any of the other solutions would be better in my opinion even what we already have. A universal health care system with a private system still available would be far better than this only the insurance companies think this is the best way.

Come on, man. Unless the laws requiring anyone showing up at an emergency room to be treated no matter what their financial situation, we'll pay the cost of their care, whether they're terminal cancer patients, or a broke kid who opts out, crashes his motorcycle, and requires years of physical therapy. My first preference is a single payer system but since that's impossible given the current lunacy of the US political and healthcare systems, I'm all for the individual mandate. And remember, in spite of his current denial, Romney made this setup work pretty well in Massachusetts.

From what I have read health care cost will increase for everyone but the elderly and terminally ill under the ACA. This bill passed without a single vote from republicans so the democrats could have passed a single payer system they can not blame that on republicans. They receive money from the insurance companies so they protected them it would appear. Healthcare premiums under Romneycare are among the highest in the nation. I am no fan of Romney but there is a difference in a state passing this law and the federal government forcing it on all the states. If we were going to copy a state Vermont would have been a better blue print IMO. As much as I dislike the ACA I feel the supreme court will uphold the law and the mandate. That will more than likely mean there will be no other system like single payer even considered in the near future. This in my opinion is just trying to protect the profit of insurance companies. Again they did not need approval from republicans to pass this bill so they have nobody to blame but themselves for not passing a single payer system.

Two wrongs do not make a right. I am not aware of a republican proposal, the ACA was as you said based on a system from the current GOP nominee. If I was a democrat, I would be upset if controlling the white house and congress and the best I could get was a plan designed by a republican. They could have passed a single payer system and if the law is upheld that will be doubtful to ever happen.
