Is this Stonewall? If so, there were both transvestites (straight men in drag) and drag queens, and it was started because a cop was hurting a lesbian and she asked if there were no men to help her. Then a drag queen did what a drag queen's gotta do and threw a brick at the cops. Or so the story goes...it did change history.

Oh, and...name a bar not owned by the mob in that area. I mean...come on.

The title of this thread sounds like the beginning of a bad joke. I don't doubt it isn't true though.

Evidently the riot started when a cop tried to get a transvestite into the back of a cop car.

I clicked and I was right. It was Stonewall. It happened in the sixties and the cops were molesting the lesbians for wearing mens clothing. It was illegal to dress in drag and you had to have at least 4 items of clothing of your gender on your body at all times, hence their "right" to feel up, I mean, search the ladies looking for appropriate garments.

Drag queen, transvestites are straight men. It was a drag queen who defended the women and when they saw that the cops were arresting him (well, "her" as she was in stage drag) for trying to defend a woman the riot started.

We wish it was made up!

The police abuses of anyone different in the 60's and before were inhumane, and a travesty for any country that wants to try to pretend it is a free country.

Why we are not there yet, and many want to return to those days of evil, the USA has become a better place for so many more than just the white males.

Ah yes, the right to cross-dress is one of the great American virtues that our brave countrymen sacrificed to uphold

I think we have a post of the year it was a great laugh that I needed! However, why I am familiar with the incident there are several sides to the story I have heard them all either way no officer should ever feel up anyone because of the clothes they wear. Thank goodness times have changed. I have had a personal experience that pretains to this and the officer after being very confused asked a couple of questions and gave me a ticket for running the biggest stop sign in Fort Worth! we had a good laugh after he blinded me with his flashlight. I can see where it is a big issue with the gay and Lesbien groups, however it has been so long who really knows what happened. I certianly can not because I have heard every possible explaination of what happened that night. Do I think Obama should be taking about it? I do not know nor do I care. Does it show how attitudes change over decades yes it does maybe that was the point he was trying to make.

It speaks volumes. This is why they often won't admit to being who they truly are. They won't admit to being socialists, and try to say that the Right doesn't

know what socialism really is. They come across like CAIR trying to explain how peaceful Islam is while secretly funneling money to Palestinian terror organizations.

The Left and Islamists have much in common especially duplicity.

A "civilization" that can be "torn down" by some guy wearing a dress, heels, and makeup is not a "civilization" that deserves to exist.

It's all the same thing. The ability to wear what you want, to say what you want, to eat what you want...is basic human rights. Who is anyone to tell you what to wear? Do you really want to have the Fashion Police sit alongside the Food and Drug Police?

We could make it a cabinet position if you like?

I do not believe this could be classified as a cultural event. Lol most progressives do not even know it happened like I said before there are many conflicting stories. No one really knows what happened. I think comparing to this to the major events above is just a little bit over board.

Stonewall was an important cultural event that was a turning point in gay and lesbian culture, as well as, transsexual culture.

Do you know who's even more about tearing down civilization? Thug cops who throw people in cages for engaging in victimless non-crimes.

What does cross dressing have to do with being gay?

    Oxymoron.
