This is the sort of thing that boils my blood. After having lived in San Antonio for half my military career (retired now, thank you), this is the attitude you see in predominantly Mexican neighborhoods (which is most of Texas). You come here, especially the illegals, you flip off the country, you bad mouth Americans, and you claim your "Mexican pride", but in the same breath demand that America support you with free handouts?

Teams are sending athletes home for the political leanings of their boyfriends and girlfriends for crying out loud...strip his medal and send him back...this is total BS.

Really I know a German girl chose to leave after the revelation that her bf was a neo nazi caused an uproar in Germany, but I haven't heard of anyone being sent home for the political leanings of a significant other would you care to give an example?

I agree. My parents came here legally from other countries and I was born here. I love the opportunities my great country has given me. You have to be proud even though these commie liberals want to take alot of our freedoms away.

He held up both flags. I don't see how this is an issue.

The vast majority of the Summer Olympians from other country's train and live in the US. Most train at our Universities. Some of them are here so long they end up with dual citizenship. If you look into it 80% plus of the medals won would be a direct result of training in America. Theoretically one could argue all those medals should be US medals but what fun would that be? It’s not as lopsided in the winter Olympics’ until you look at Skating.

He held up both flags. I don't see the problem.

And what do you mean, he came here illegally? How do you know he's not a legal immigrant?

He should be banned from any further government support, and from any further participation in the national program and any future U.S. teams. If he doesn't want to compete for the USA, he shouldn't be allowed to. There is nothing wrong in taking pride in where his family comes from, but the pride must take second place to his American citizenship.

Is this really such a big deal it deserves three threads?

Yes, while holding the American flag - which had all the stars and stripes of your American flag - behind his back, in one hand the Mexican-American athlete who just won a medal for the United States also carried a Mexican flag.

It's pathetic the response by some of you, really it is.

    A totally reasonable response.

You make it sound like being an American is like being in a cult.

    The cult comes first.

How many Olympic medals have you won for your country?

Except horses arent native to north america. So, if we are keeping things native, they dont get to compete in equestrian events.

What do you mean, if he doesn't want to compete for us? What uniform is he wearing? Ours. What flag is he prominently and proudly displaying? Ours. Who dis he just win the first silver in 44 years in his event for? Us.

He could have went right back to Mexico after he finished training and won THEM that silver...but he didn't. He did it for us.

No Im not joking. The current horses in north America were re-introduced here from Europe. ALL of the prehistoric 'horses' in north America died out some 15k years ago.

Now run along and stick your head back in the toilet.

If Mexico had this flag, they would be in a lot less trouble by now, and so would the USA.

Very telling when a very left leaning, pro-mexican journalist, Mr. Navarette on CNN even takes issue with him waiving the mexican flag as well....

Of course, the lefty responses here were very much as predicted.

I don't see what the big deal is, but after all, us Aussies are more laid back than the Americans, so...its a flag. He is carrying two flags...the problem?

So because Mr. Navarette has an issue with this means the rest of us can't have a different opinion?

Who cares? He won his medal for the US and had the American flag waving behind his back in celebration.

Life goes on, get over your insecurities.

Tejas was acquired by armed robbery

Mexico was cheated out of most of South Western region.

The Gringos simply outgunned the poorly armed mexicans . then declared itself independendt _

In November 1835, the northern part of the Mexican state of Coahuila-Tejas declared itself in revolt against Mexico's new centralist government headed by President Antonio López de Santa Anna.

It rebelled against Mexico's Constitution because it did not allow slavery.
    - It declared its Independence from Mexico.
    - It gained its Independence in combat, and by treaty.

By February 1836, Texans declared their territory to be independent and that its border extended to the Rio Grande rather than the Rio Nueces that Mexicans recognized as the dividing line.

-- It joined the US by declaring its acceptance of the Constitution.
    - It rebelled against the US and seceded from the Union.
    - It joined the Confederate States of America, whose Constitution allowed slavery.
    - It was defeated during the US Civil War.

    - It underwent the reconstruction process, and reaccepted the Constitution.
    - It rejoined the US by declaring its acceptance of the Constitution, which now forbade slavery

Although the Texans proclaimed themselves citizens of the Independent Republic of Texas on April 21, 1836 following their victory over the Mexicans at the Battle of San Jacinto, Mexicans continued to consider Tejas a rebellious province that they would reconquer someday.

I understand , most Hispanhics have very little in common with + loathe those scoundrels in Washington..

One good thing about the Mexican Eagle:

At least it caught the snake.

The US eagle is still looking for it - in all the wrong places.

Too Mexican to be American and too American to be Mexican. Neither fish nor fowl.
