It is a foolish idea and is only coherent if one figures the armed criminal will follow the laws about gun ownership and that the folk who already illegally sell criminals arms will suddenly stop doing so as a result of the law...silliness.
If they are purchasing firearms illegally, what makes you think they will go to a an FFL dealer to transfer the firearm? I really don't have an issue with the idea, I'm just not sure how effective it is going to be.
just legalize every gun, also the ones you have permitted, i mean the bad guys get those guns, so you shud too to protect yourself. the US-logic clearly states that more guns equal more safety. if everybody had a gun, nobody wud ever get killed, well the bad guys obviously wud since people with guns always can protect themselves if they have one... just look at the statistics, the US has the most liberal ("liberal" what????????????) gun laws in the world and clearly is the safest country (regarding "gun"-crimes) on the planet; i think just some more guns cud make you even more safe...
I don't know. Maybe it really all is just a wash. Gun control does actually work in places like Australia. America doesn't have the same options as Australia, however, since we're right next to Mexico. I guess we'll always have somewhat of a wild west environment because of that. Whether it's gun crimes or just violent crime in general, America has been at the top of the charts for several decades.
The OP ignores the separation between the States and the Federal government. States make their own laws that apply in the State. For instance, gun owners in this State can sell a handgun to another only in the State without going though an FFL. You have to go through an FFL to sell over State lines due to the Federal government's role in making interstate commerce regular. Those laws apply to all States governing selling over State lines. Even in State sales have laws attached. For instance, you can not knowingly sell to someone that cannot legally own a firearm. You can go to jail for doing so. Because of that many that sell in State require the other person to have a Carry license to protect them from prosecution. Those that don't often copy drivers license information and keep a record to protect themselves.
Gun control hasnt worked in Australia though, that is a lie....the amount of gun shootings we have a week by gun toting criminals gets higher as we speak.....your obviously not up to date on whats going on in Australia.
We are having shootings daily in Australia now under gun control laws, before gun control laws it only happened once in a blue moon...
Throw up a few links where there are shootings daily 365 days a year. What I've been hearing is bikie gangs are once again rattling their sabres and other gang related violence. The average Joe Blow is pretty much immune from gun violence.
Shootings go down stabbing to death goes up. What's the point? Which would you prefer, to be shot to death or stabbed to death? http://www.aic.gov.au/en/statistics/homicide/weapon.aspx
