And if customers keep coming Denny's (that store anyway) has fallen into a windfall of his own making. No employees on health care, and a 5% markup on prices he is already profiting from.

Some (some) of these companies are laying off because of legitimate concerns, and added expenses to the products/services they provide directly associated to Obamacare. Others will have to legitimately readjust their prices to make up for the government imposed expenses that effect their suppliers, taxes etc... But this guy is using this situation as an opportunity to his advantage. If it doesn't backfire on him.

Yes I agree Obamacare is idiocy at it's finest, but people demanded a solution and the government gave them one that for the most part benefits major corporations (and we are not even talking about the one's who have already been given exemptions or will be in the future), screws employees at every level royally (especially those full time employees who will now be casual part-timers with no benefits, with no prospects for raises in the future), and directly assaults small businesses in general, especially if added cost effect their bottom line. All it would have taken was for one republican judge to "NOT" rewrite the legislation into a tax, and sent it back to congress for a redo. Unfortunately his corporate masters got to him.

Dennys does provide health, prescription, vision and dental insurance.

This is actually false as it's more expensive for a business to have two 20 hr part time employees than one 40 hr full time employee.

Yes, but you'll have to pay for everything yourself.... I don't give crap out except checks. Also, I have a policy that if you are more than 10 minutes late without prior approval - I will fire you.

    Your job?

    Fixin' me ham sandwiches...

Please feel free to point out where I said otherwise. Only it isn't "just" Obama. Democrats and republicans have been destroying this countries economy since regulations on banking was lifted in the early 80's. Both parties are raping the nation while partisans bicker over which side is really at fault. The correct answer is they both are.

I disagree.... He owns over 20 Denny's... Instead of taking home 50 million a year he'll be taking home 49,500,000? The owner is being a baby and whiner - he needs to provide health care, but seems someone already beat me to it!

Businesses are anticipating MORE healthcare costs. For instance, they are now required to pay for healthcare minimums, they werent before.

As a Dennys franchise owner he's already providing health, prescription, vision and dental insurance. "Obamacare" doesn't have any impact whatsoever on his business because he's already in compliance with all of it's provisions and has been for years.

Maximum deductibles, no lifetime maximums, no pre-existing conditions clauses, etc. It isnt just, "if you like your plan you can keep it".

A Denny's brings in $2.5 million a year in profit. Who knew? Certainly not Denny's operators.

Keep paying for their "free" ER care along with you and all the others who foot the bill for those who can't afford health insurance and their employers don't provide it.

Why not build more national free clinics? Why we gotta go and be all gung ho for the insurance/big pharma?

    Oh yeah. Fascism.

For you sake I hope you realize that there are places called urgent cares and/or clinics were you can get the same treatment that you would get in a ER for half to a third of the cost. Not to mention the fact that most hospitals, if not all, have a payment plan option or have some type of community scholarship. So no I really didn’t have to pay for anything. Way to go.

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/most-small-businesses-dont-understand-130000232.html

Two businesses out of 429 small businesses surveyed actually had a requirement to furnish health insurance under the ACA. We have Republicans screaming, "The sky is falling, the sky is falling" on small businesses when in fact, based upon this survey, only 0.45% of small businesses had a requirement to furnish insurance for their employees. Less than 1/2 of 1%!!! But "The sky is falling, the sky is falling."

Is it any wonder that knowledgeable and informed individuals look at these "Chicken Little" Republicans with absolute distain. They need to try addressing facts instead of fiction.

This is true. However its missing the point....

It disincentivizes these business owners to get to 50.

It falls outside of a budget of $2000 per employee jumping to $2500.

No, he's just doing it because he's an idiot and I seriously doubt he'll cut any jobs because that would be a bad business decision that would cost him customers and revenue. The food service industry is just that, a service industry, and by cutting staff he'd reduce his own ability to provide service to the customer. He's just off on a Political BS rant because he knows he's already providing the health insurance for his employees. He just didn't think anyone would actually know the benefits that Denny's provides and obviously the news media didn't.

My company is B2B, and we are not passing an increasing healthcare costs to our customers, we cannot - we have to stay competitive. We're raising our employee's contributions toward their health insurance. Letters will go out during 1st week of December.

    HAPPY NOW?

Dennys already has employer provided private health insurance and which is a group insurance policy. These policies have never had exclusions for pre-existing conditions because they are group, not an individual, health insurance policy. The only people that have a problem with pre-existing conditions are those that try to get private individual health insurance coverage.

Increases in group policies are not related to the ACA to my knowledge. If there are increases related to the ACA they would be minimal. As I noted the biggest hit will be for the new private insurance pools that are going to cover those with pre-existing conditions because 30 million Americans that don't currently have private insurance are going to be paying the addtional costs for about 1 million Americans that have pre-existing conditions but no health insurance.

Group policies that businesses carry don't have exclusions for pre-existing conditions so there will be no increases related to that ACA requirement for the private insurance pools.

To everyone here complaining about greedy business owners taking advantage, whats stopping you from opening a business that treats everyone fairly and doesn't worry about profits?

    crickets....................I'm waiting.

By the way, I work for a corp who cares about its employees AND makes a profit, funneling it back to its employees who in turn work harder to make more profit that gets returned to them...happy employees=happy customers/vendors=more profit=happy employees...and so goes the cycle. Simple isn't it? And govt is NOT needed in any way to "fix" anything.

^%&$&*$ corps who take advantage of their employees get beat out by ones who treat its employees right, when they're NOT too big to fail.
