Perhaps it is just the circles I travel in....but I really do not think so...it appears that optimism has almost entirely vanished....the first 4 years of Obama was bad enough but many thought we would be able to turn the page and get rid of him and begin to rebuild what has been torn down....but not so....it now appears that hope has vanished...unemployment is increasing and the business world fears obama and the forthcoming attack on big business.

People are even comitting suicide because of the re-election of obama...first time I have ever heard of such a phenomenon...just more evidence of a depressed populance...a people who have given up and are just struggling to survive...understanding that things are going to get much, much worse.....and the vision that most of us had of America is Gone With The Wind.

Agreed, the drug markets are going to make a lot of profits as they already have, selling anti-depressants.

Dark times. The lights are going out all over the Western world thanks to liberal policies.

    You think?

4 years ago, the stock market had tanked 50% and was crashing, 700,000 people a month net were losing jobs, and businesses were closing. People were really depressed then.

Today, they in general seem relatively exhuberant.

Maybe excepting those invested in failure for political purposes.

Old white guys aren't poor. They were around during the golden age and had the chance to accumulate capital.

The real losers are going to be young white guys because they will not have the economic opportunities that were available to old white guys.

Of course, misery loves company. California is such a great example for the rest of the country.

    http://www.lao.ca.gov/reports/2011/bud/fiscal_outlook/fiscal_outlook_2011.aspx

$3 Billion Deficit at End of 2011–12. The net effect of (1) the lower projected revenues for 2011–12, (2) the trigger cuts, and (3) the expected inability of the state to achieve about $1.2 billion of other budget actions—as well as a few other minor changes—would leave the General Fund with a $3 billion deficit at the end of 2011–12.

$10 Billion Operating Shortfall for 2012–13. In 2012–13, the state will face increased costs due, in part, to the expiration of a number of temporary budget measures adopted in recent years. Most notably, under our forecast methodology (which does not incorporate any effects from a possible November 2012 ballot measure concerning taxes), General Fund Proposition 98 costs—as well as "settle–up" payments to schools—are projected to rise by $6 billion in 2012–13. Moreover, in 2012–13, the state must repay the $2 billion Proposition 1A property tax loan that was used to help balance the budget in 2009. We forecast that the General Fund's 2012–13 operating shortfall (the difference between annual General Fund revenues and expenditures) will be $9.8 billion.

$13 Billion Budget Problem to Solve in 2012. Accordingly, we project that the Legislature and the Governor will need to address a $12.8 billion budget problem between now and the time that the state adopts a 2012–13 budget plan.

    Gallup: economic confidence:

    11/16/08: -60
    Today -20.

    A 40 point improvement.

People were a *lot* more depressed 4 years ago.

    Wall Street isn't Main Street.

If one defines failure as a decline of living standards for young white people then failure is on the way.

California's unemployment rate fell to 10.1 percent last month as job growth perked up substantially, state officials said today.

Employers added 45,800 jobs in October, the Employment Development Department reported. In addition, September's previously reported job gains were revised upward significantly, to 32,000. The unemployment rate fell a tenth of a percent.

He said the state has averaged nearly 32,000 new jobs a month the past six months. That's "the fastest pace of job growth...since March 2001," he said. "We're getting back to a pre-recession pace."

You do know that YOU are the reason Romney lost, don't you?
You do know that YOU are the reason Republicans lost seats in the Senate rather than taking over the Senate, don't you?

But you just keep on keepin on.

It will make 2014 all that much better.

Think back to when bush the failure won re-election, the entire world was depressed....for good reason.
Right now the entire world, save the nutter, foamers and moron on the far right are feeling pretty darned good.
Depending on how the repukes in Congress act in the next few weeks will determine how much better we all get.
If they continue on the path of obstruction like they have, things will remain slow, however if they step up and do what even they know has to be done, we are going to be in tall cotton.

republicans don't care about those people (the 47%), they are just depressed cause they lost... simple as that

republicans thought for sure they convinced the voters the economic crash was Obama's fault even though the banks were failing and the economy crash before he even too office

No doubt, that whole "owernship society" housing binge was one massive (*)(*)(*)(*)ing failure.

I agree with the earlier post- compared to 4 years ago- Americans are positively exhuberant.

I remember when the stock market was crashing- along with everyone's 401K's, massive layoffs were happening right and left- and the company I was with was making plans for how to survive a severe recession.

Now? Not great- but much, much better than 4 years ago.

I suspect a lot of racists are depressed about having a "negro" in the White House another four years.
