    If she bought a return ticket and got on the plane to Hungary, she would have had a reasonable expectation of a return flight. The airline should have known they would be unable to provide a return flight.

    I think a case can be made, although based on prejudiced bigotry rather than any fact, that it would be reasonable not to trust Hungarian medical care. She had a pre-existing complication, and there would be language barriers to overcome as well as concerns about the professionalism and technological standards in Hungary (both of which are actually excellent)

    She would need to sue in the USA and have the benefit of an unsophisticated jury to win the case, but its not impossible.

    The only result of such a lawsuit would be for many foreign carriers to insert an exception clause into their flight contracts, which might serve to exclude quite a few more Americans than just this woman. The so-called epidemic of obesity causes yet more chaos and damage to American interests abroad.

    Why should they have known that? they were able to cater for her on her outward journey, is it not possible that she was no longer able to travel due to further weight gain? At the end of the day she couldn't fit they made every effort to accommodate her and she chose to refuse medical treatment. That is her right but it is no one elses' fault.

    Er. The United States government does not in anyways encourage greed and obesity and such and such. Rather it allows people to do that to themselves. It is not the fault of the U.S. if someone has no self-control.

    Unless she gained another 20lbs or so during her vacation!
    And this is where all the nasty talk and fear mongering about other countries' health care can actually cost some American who are too gullible their life!

    I would bet this woman was a Fox News addict who really believe that the only country that has appropriate health care is the US!

    If that is true, being a Fox News addict is really what killed her!
