I've been thinking about this long and hard. There aren't many things that I think that we as a people should a consensus on, but I do believe I have one. Is there anyone out there that thinks that corporations being able to donate millions of dollars anonymously through these pac groups to people running for political office is a good idea? Is there anyone out there that thinks lobbyists that work for private corporations and political activist groups should be allowed to influence politicians in washington d.c.? I tend to think corporations should not be allowed to donate money to a campaign fund period. I think the only money raised should come from private citizens, with a cap of 50,000 dollars in a given election cycle. I mean we want a government by the people of the people for the people right? When did private corporations change to be considered individuals? Isn't the Citizens United decision made by the Supreme Court essentially fundamentally changing the way elections work in this country? Discuss.
I'll go along with that provided it doesn't stop with corporations. There are many other interests with their fingers on the levers.
Again, you keep mistaking the symptom for the underlying disease. The disease is the ability of government to interfere in the economy. If government were not able to interfere in the economy, nobody would bother with campaign contributions. Less government is the real cure.
Corporations should be allowed to be as politically active as unions. I would be prepared to silence corporations from a practical non-legal standpoint if unions were silenced as well.
