The cost of Bush's travel and security cost the taxpayers exactly the same as the Obama's. The cost of their accommodations and food is paid by them so Bush didn't pay anything to stay in his own home and the Obamas pay for whatever hotel/house they stay in and pay for their own food.

Bush didn't save the taxpayers any money for food/accommodations and Obama doesn't cost them any for food/accommodations. Travel and security cost the taxpayers the same whether it was Bush traveling to Camp David or Crawford every single weekend or the Obamas going to Hawaii for Christmas.

The Obama daughters are teenagers who do not have the freedom to visit friends, go to movies and so forth as other teenagers do because of security concerns. There are also security concerns when they go on a spring break trip and paranoid mouthbreathers like Breitbart informing every nut in the country where they are so they're easy to find makes it considerably more difficult - and expensive - to keep them safe.

Obama spent 26 days "on vacation" during his first year as president.
President Reagan spent all or part of 42 days away from the White House "on vacation" in 1981.
GW Bush spent 69 days on vacation during his first year as president in 2001.

    http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/president-obamas-vacation-days/

The following sources show that during GW Bush's entire presidency, he arguably spent more time on vacation that any other president in history.

    http://www.alldeaf.com/war-politica...any-other-president-expenses-over-obamas.html

Its f.ing stupid how long GW Bush spent on vacation. There's estimates that W. Bush took 1020 total vacation days in 8 years of presidency (and I actually believe its true.)

GW Bush's vacations cost $27,990,578 million taxpayer dollars on Air Force One expenses alone.

Over 8 years GW Bush took 977 days of vacation, or 32% of his total time in office was spent on vacations or retreats.

The most vacationing president in US history GW Bush.

Bush's Vacations Cost A LOT More Than Obama's.
GW Bush spent at least $20 million taxpayer dollars just on flights to his ranch in Crawford (alone).

G.W. Bush's nearly 1 month vacation at a ranch ranch in Crawford, Texas.

GW Bush spent 32% of his presidency on vacation.
Obama spent 5% of his presidencicy on vacation

And the republicans call Obama the "Vacationer in Chief."

Complaining loudly is about the only recourse folk have to abuse from our politicians and bureaucrats. Writing congress critters is a weekly event in my home...As far as I know, vacation/taxpayer abuse is not illegal, just sleazy...

"Bush did it" sort of died the death of silliness a few years ago as an argument defending BoBo...

    - - - Updated - - -

We were not in the perpetual Obama recession/.depression/stagnation in the Bush years...

Taking vacations during good times is completely different than during bad times. I believe Bush quite playing golf after some issue with the war. No such concern from Obama or Biden, in fact, they wine and dine the rich in the peoples house but do not let the poor in. Let them eat cake.

They are totally blind to the disparity and only those that believe Obama is Messiah defend this.

Would you require that a president give up his family or his children's childhood years for the sake of penury?

I write them a lot too. I saw my (Black) parents struggle and rejoice over changes to this government and nation (it took many decades). You can make all the noise you want about the 'vacations' of any given President... but I say that this cannot just be about President Obama. If you want to do something substantial... maybe we should change the law surrounding what a President is allowed to do with respect to that. Don't come up in here, making noise about "Obama" and his family, if you cannot find it in your criticism to execute a reasonable and fair comparison with respect to other Presidents.

Really, I just can't wait to see what foolishness people try to bring up over the NEXT President. :)

    1. I want a SANE President.
    2. We will always have good and bad times going on at the SAME time. Not all Americans are on equal footing. And when it comes to Presidents, they really DON'T get a day off; they just move around.

And we weren't only in "good times" with the other Presidents (who also took vacations). What is it with this "Black" President... that makes some people talk/act so crazy? Honestly, I cannot wait to see how the NEXT President is talked about and treated.

    It will be VERY interesting.

Yes - waging 2 wars on credit cards and off-budget, huge tax cuts for the wealthiest people in the country and vacations every single weekend he was in office contributed to our financial collapse. He should have spent more time in the WH figuring out how to pay for the wars and tax cuts and less time cutting brush and communing with the cows in Crawford.

There is a difference between a due regard toward fiscal personal responsibility and 'penury'....There is nothing in the job that requires 3 expensive vacations in under 2 months...

Wasn't Bush always on vacation? At his ranch? Or did he just stay there most of the time thinking he could be arrested on his private property as easily for the crimes he committed on 9/11? Besides being a buffoon and a liar, he was a lazy slacker "on the dole" collecting government handouts.

Probably good idea to vote in someone that can handle the job in the first place.

Obama wasn't a better choice than Mitt Romney or Herman Cain?

After having followed Obama through the Illinois Senate it was apparent to me that he was a very poor choice. Maybe a good choice for Democrats since he was a virtual unknown and definitely a left leaning media darling but with no leadership skills. He leads from behind and from positions of weakness. At least Romney had proven leadership skills even though for most conservatives he was much to squishy.

Well, at this point it is clear that he won the election.

And he's taken exponentially-less time off than the last President.

    I don't see the problem.

Most of this is about perception. The "let them eat cake" attitude when everyone else is suffering even has some left wing commentators concerned.

No, the amount of vacation time he has taken, compared to other Presidents.

Ignore the perception issue even though it is important. Probably the reason Obama's popularity has dropped, not that he cares now.
