(CNSNews.com) – Reports about a fatwa urging young girls to travel to Syria to provide sexual services for jihadist rebels are causing a stir in Tunisia, while also drawing attention to the Islamic concept – little-known in the West and controversial among Muslims themselves – of “temporary marriage.”

Girls as young as 14 are counted as eligible for the “sexual jihad,” and around a dozen young Tunisians are believed to have taken up the call, attributed to an influential Saudi scholar, Sheikh Mohamed al-Arifi.

The pan-Arabic Al-Hayat newspaper reported this week that a video circulating on social media sites in Tunisia showed the parents of a girl younger than 18, saying she had recently returned from Syria after being convinced by Salafist fellow students to travel to the conflict-torn country “to support the mujahideen there.”

It quoted Tunisian religious affairs minister Noureddine al-Khadimi as repudiating such fatwas (religious rulings), stressing Tunisians were not obligated to adhere to them.

Although al-Arifi reportedly is now disowning the fatwa, Arab commentators seem skeptical.

“Sources close to the sheikh denied that he had issued any such fatwa,” the pan-Arab news service Al-Bawaba said in a report Thursday. “Then again, one might backtrack, standing accused of selling young innocents to militant Muslims.”

    Al-Bawaba called the notion “indecent.”

“Promiscuity among teenage girls getting the seal of approval from the most puritanical quarters of Islam is a turn-up for the holy books,” it commented.

A dossier with the records of temporary marriages. The photo was taken from the records of a marriage registrar office in Tehran. The two big X's show that the time of marriage has expired.

TEHRAN, Iran For five years, Maryam, the hairdresser, and Karim, the home appliance salesman, carried on a love affair, meeting secretly at the house where Karim lived with his parents. The young couple's relationship was officially sanctioned by Iran's Islamic Republic, even though unmarried couples who have sex or even date and hold hands can be arrested, fined, even flogged. That is because Maryam and Karim were married.

    Sort of.

They had a valid contract of temporary marriage.

Iran is a country where rules are fluid, where people of all classes and degrees of religiosity pride themselves on finding loopholes in the Islamic system. Temporary marriage, or sigheh, is one of the oddest and biggest.

The practice of temporary marriage is said to have existed during the lifetime of Muhammad, who is believed to have recommended it to his companions and soldiers. The majority Sunni sect in Islam banned it; the minority Shiite sect did not. Historically, the practice was used most frequently in Iran by pilgrims in Shiite shrine cities like Meshed and Qum. Pilgrims who traveled had sexual needs, the argument went. Temporary marriage was a legal way to satisfy them.

    excerpt:

Then again, one might backtrack, standing accused of selling young innocents to militant Muslims (without parental consent).

What total BULLCRAP. Women in western society have MORE RIGHTS than anyone else, including the RIGHT TO MURDER babies they decide they do not want.

PLease cite what "rights" women are being DENIED in Western society, or stop the friggin' idiocy.

Why don't you choose 5 states at random and check divorce laws prior to 1960.

Or look up the definition of Dower Rights up until 1970.

Why don't you stop trying to justify what muslims are doing NOW, with yor faux outrage about the past?

Most states HAD ALIMONY until recently. Make up some more cherry picked nonsense.
