I'm hoping that the Russians have offered alternative military technology to Egypt and that it is accepted. Egypt must free itself from the US of AIPAC yoke.

That's not a ' sale', that's another ten billion-dollar handout at US taxpayers' expense. Egypt must have counter-measures, and it's perfectly obvious that America won't supply those  Russia will.

It's just a matter of time before every regional government has the means to shoot them down, hence the mad scramble for drones.

The region has frequent earthquakes and it is not suitable for nuclear plants , we already have the nightmare of Kozloduy nearby ...

The pyramids are made of stone , we both know that stone buildings can withstand almost everything otherwise we wouldn't have any ancient monuments around.

I understand that nuclear plants can provide cheap energy but also consider your region, during the war in Kosova one of the "smart" missiles lost it's way and landed only few kilometres from Kozloduy , if it was hit we would all be dead by now.

Sounds good - makes sense for Egypt given the size of the population. Still, I am wondering why they aren't pursuing a different route - surely an extensive solar power infrastructure would suit the country better.

Simple. It's all about cost/efficiency ratio.

If it will happen Egypt will be the first Arab country to have this stuff. So far Arabs cannot into nuclear.

They are right over where the African and European plates meet .
I don't care if they are Arabs or not , Egypt is so close to me that i get Sahara sandstorms every spring so i am personally concerned for environmental reasons.
After Chernobil my entire family developed thyroid cancer , i 'd hate to see new generation pass through this.

A nuclear program won't help Morsi and the MB.

Israel isn't Morsi's problem. His restive populace is his big problem.

Like many Arab tyrannies, Egypt depends on free stuff for the fellahin. In Egypt that means cheap (subsidized) food and energy. Morsi and the MB don't have enough money for the free stuff. The fellahin are unhappy.

A nuke doesn't do Morsi any good when a mob of his own people strings him up from a lamp post.

So? I gave you the map proving that seismic activity over there is similar to that the one in France or in USA. And it is not nearly as bad as in Japan or in US of A west coast.
You'd prefer some smog and coal dust from fossil fuel power plants. Point taken.
Coincidence. Propably your family is genetically vulnerable to cancer. I, for one, have none of my close relatives died from cancer.
Good luck developing fusion then or making alternative energy several times cheper.

Inferiority complex is the 2nd most spread sickness in Arab countries, no one cares if Egypt or any other country will have nuclear power, its the bomb isuue the west dont trust you with, and for a good reason....at least untill you prove you can govern yourself without blowing stuff up twice a week.

No it is not as bad but it is not as good as say England or Germany .

I am only concerned about the safety

I don't think thyroid cancer has anything to do with genetics and no it was not just my family .

This would be ideal and i don't have a problem with nuclear energy , it is just that we have bad experiences from Chernobil and there is already a scary plant in Bulgaria.

*I don't mind Egypt owning nukes , spaceships , dragons.

So you are good with MB having Nuclear capability? As soon as they get Nuclear reactors, it will be no time until they are spinning as fast as they can to turn the uranium into weapons grade. MB with Nuke capability is NOT a good thing.. Fire up the F-16's Israel!!!!

I have to do this again. "So what?"

It is perfectly safe, if controlled and used properly.

Actually it does. It is not a secret that some people have higher statistical probability of having cancer, then the others. Mostly it is about genetics.

Look, the average coal-based power plant realieses more radiation into the air per amount of energy produced, than nuclear power plant. But nobody cares because there were no fancy explosion ever. Of course there are safer options for producing electricity, like solar power plant, but you must be ready to pay three times more for it. And last time I checked Egypt wasn't the richest country on Earth.

It sounds like the USA doesn't control Egypt. I thought that the revolution made the USA and it seems it was. But something went the wrong way and the USA lost the control of Egypt. And so the government is leading by Mursi. Russia notices it and wants to become friends with Egypt like with Libya of Gaddafi. Good situation for us, nice:smile:
