You might think its funny but flipping a coin is actually more reliable than scientific research. As I said the majority of all published research findings are false.

But that is not necessarily a bad thing. Science advances more through falsification than any other means.

What is a bad thing however is the thinking that just because some scientists published something it is true.

better than the last few years but still below 2001 - 2007 averages. Thermohaline circulation, also known as the global ocean conveyor along with the arctic oscillation have more to do with sea ice than atmospheric temps. Of course that is way too complicated for the simplistic minds of the AGW parrots. According to them it's all the fault of the devil co2. [Sarcasm] That is why ice melts when you put it in soda you know :) [/sarcasm]

It should also be noted that a large reason we have such a trend is because the year the NSIDC satellites went operational back in 1979. However we do have other satellite data going back to the early 70s its just not as good as the NSIDC and that data shows that 79 was a maximum and may have been the maximum for the century even longer.

Another Ice Age? Monday, June 24, 1974

Some "scientists" will say anything to make a buck.

    Yes, some will.

Some even have gone so far as to agree with the silly pundits and bloggers telling people that AGW is a hoax.

Regression toward the mean doesn't apply to this situation so well. Warming feedbacks from open water are supposed to increase the likelihood that record after record would be hit. We just had the largest area gain on record and the second largest extent growth outside of 1996.

This melt season proved that any type of weather is still possible over the ice pack and it was below normal for the entire summer.

For what it's worth, Science magazine's latest issue forcuses on AGW, with at least seven major articles discussing various aspects. Lots of facts, lots of depth, lots of analysis, very little interest to ideologists.

Don't worry, that's exactly what we're doing right now. As hard as we can. And the best news is, we can keep right on doing this without any policy changes whatsoever! So relax, rest easy, no changes are in sight.

Yet these latest IPCC estimates of climate sensitivity may still be too high. They don't adequately reflect the latest rash of published papers estimating "equilibrium climate sensitivity" and "transient climate response" on the basis of observations, most of which are pointing to an even milder warming. This was already apparent last year with two papers—by scientists at the University of Illinois and Oslo University in Norway—finding a lower ECS than assumed by the models. Since then, three new papers conclude that ECS is well below the range assumed in the models. The most significant of these, published in Nature Geoscience by a team including 14 lead authors of the forthcoming IPCC scientific report, concluded that "the most likely value of equilibrium climate sensitivity based on the energy budget of the most recent decade is 2.0 degrees Celsius."
Two recent papers (one in the Journal of the American Meteorological Society, the other in the journal Earth System Dynamics) estimate that TCR is probably around 1.65 degrees Celsius. That's uncannily close to the estimate of 1.67 degrees reached in 1938 by Guy Callendar, a British engineer and pioneer student of the greenhouse effect. A Canadian mathematician and blogger named Steve McIntyre has pointed out that Callendar's model does a better job of forecasting the temperature of the world between 1938 and now than do modern models that "hindcast" the same data.
The significance of this is that Callendar assumed that carbon dioxide acts alone, whereas the modern models all assume that its effect is amplified by water vapor. There is not much doubt about the amount of warming that carbon dioxide can cause. There is much more doubt about whether net amplification by water vapor happens in practice or is offset by precipitation and a cooling effect of clouds.
Since the last IPCC report in 2007, much has changed. It is now more than 15 years since global average temperature rose significantly. Indeed, the IPCC chairman Rajendra Pachauri has conceded that the "pause" already may have lasted for 17 years, depending on which data set you look at. A recent study in Nature Climate Change by Francis Zwiers and colleagues of the University of Victoria, British Columbia, found that models have overestimated warming by 100% over the past 20 years.

So read up on the Vikings and Greenland. History doesn't mean crap if you Euro's keep ignoring it !

And restore America's faith that most Euro's are not full of their own pompous fecal matter. There's a reason Europe became second rate to America. Several of them.

In all honesty, is a graph of weather since 1980 supposed to signal some newfound weather concern ? Have the Euro's become that small-minded ? What good is your history then ?

Ideologists have no interest in either science, facts, lots of depth, or analysis.

I have no interest in a science magazine discussing politics and calling it science so they can keep their funding and jobs.
