Santorum: Ted Cruz 'Did More Harm' Than Good With Government Shutdown The Huffington Post | By Mollie Reilly | 10/27/2013 12:05 pm EDT Excerpts: Former senator and Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) criticized Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for the partial government shutdown, admitting Cruz "did more harm" than good with his attempt to defund President Barack Obama's health care law. "I would say that in the end he did more harm," Santorum said during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday. Prior to the shutdown, which left hundreds of thousands of federal workers furloughed without pay for over two weeks and cost the U.S. economy an estimated $24 billion, Santorum voiced support for Cruz's plan to tie anti-Obamacare measures to the government funding bill. On Sunday, Santorum said Cruz's plan failed in its execution. "I think he didn't do a very good job in pointing his objective out," Santorum said. "It's one thing to have a goal, and another thing to have a plan to get you to that goal, and he didn't figure that out." While Cruz has faced backlash from both sides of the aisle in the aftermath of the 16-day shutdown, he maintains that his efforts were worthwhile. "One of the things we accomplished in the fight over Obamacare is we elevated the national debate over what a disaster, what a train wreck, how much Obamacare is hurting millions of Americans across this country," Cruz said Friday at a GOP dinner in Iowa. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/27/rick-santorum-ted-cruz_n_4167774.html?ref=topbar ........ IMO: Another thing that Cruz accomplished in his egging on the House to shut down the government to the tune of $24Billion dollars for 16 days, is the wrath and disgust of the republican party, the Democratic Party, and the American people. It will ultimately be his undoing The republican/tparty agenda is so off course now that there is little chance of any of them being re-elected, because of their obstruction, ignoring the unemployment in the country, and failure to take up bills that have been passed by the Senate and left sitting on the table for months while the House frenzedly makes out bills to gut Obamacare. We all know by now that Obamacare is hated by the republicans because they have all been paid off by the big profit-making insurance companies, AMA, and pharmaceuticals who are largely responsible for the yearly raise in the prices of medical insurance plans for Americans. Obamacare has been typically turned into a political scorecard by the republicans that do not care about the needs of the American people and care only about the donations for their re-elections. Cruz did help the national debate, but it was all turned on him in the end; he lost many friends due to his actions meant to elevate him to the stature of a possible presidential run, which is forever dead now.
I find it odd and amusing that Santorum would accuse someone else of going too far. I think that speaks volumes about Cruz, when another who a scant two years ago was considered fairly bat (*)(*)(*)(*) crazy is calling out someone else in their party for their antics. On a side note, I am of the opinion that brand Cruz exists solely for the promotion of brand Cruz, that literally every move is intended to not necessarily do what represents his constituents or what is best for the country in his mind but what is going to generate the most media coverage for his assumed presidential campaign.
There is no reason to just blame Cruz. After all, the House was mostly responsible for the shutdown and he's not even a member. The fact the House chose to let a non-member of the House control them is on the House. And as for Santorum, who really gives a crap? The dude is nuts.
Agreed. Santorum capitalized on the split in the GOP. Cruz has just widened it. - - - Updated - - - Agreed. Santorum capitalized on the split in the GOP. Cruz has just widened it.
But the House is where the GOP has any real power... and much of it was voted in on TEA Party platforms.
It's not so odd. The Cookie Lady and the half Kenyan ripped each other apart the same way in 2008, It's called presidential politics.
Are you talking about Cruz who was cheered for 11 minutes by the people who elected him? Not BH Obama who rammed his stinking assed baby down the throats of the American people even though not one Republican voted for it and it has never had a majority of support? The liberal horde loves to talk about this being a democracy when they count the total votes for BHO but ignore the fact that the majority hate obama-care. Right. It appeared to me that Cruz was more giving support to the House who was already planning to defund obama-care. Curz was asking the RINOS to show some spine and stand with the House which they didn't do. Spineless rats are the first attacked and we will see some of them thrown out of the Senate by a Conservative or a moderate dem.
