I voted FOR the legalization of MJ here in Colorado, and would do it again. That said, there is one hell of a big difference between the grass my generation smoked in the late 60's and early 70's and the astoundingly powerful stuff that's available today.

I smoked a very small amount of a strain called "Space Dawg", which is 70% Indica and 30% Sativa -- about three pretty good "hits", holding the smoke down like we used to do "back in the day". SON OF A *****! Three hits, and I was totally couch-locked for twenty minutes. I could barely even move! I can't even begin to imagine smoking this kind of stuff anywhere but in the isolated safety of my own property, and NEVER, EVER behind the wheel of a car!

Each person is going to have to "police" himself. And, as sincerely as I know how, I ask every one of you who intends to smoke pot to avoid driving a car, with NO exceptions, or you could die, and kill other people, too. The first few times you smoke the "new" grass, do it in complete privacy, with no access to anything that moves!

Its not a study about driving stoned. Its a study that shows 28% of those in the accidents had smoked recently enough to have Marijuana detected in their system. Stop perverting the facts! Being stoned and testing positive weeks after smoking are two different things, you do understand that dont you?

This article reports on the findings of a study from 2010... Just a few years ago this would have been fine, but now the conditions just changed. I think they should do it again and include Colorado where they legalized pot.

We need to know more about this... maybe someone should start a group called Dads against Marijuana. To compliment the Moms against Drunk Driving organization.

While I do have some issues with the study, after actually Reading it and the articles it analyzed I would have to say that it doesn't seem inherently biased against. Only that the data shows a direct correlation with the amount of weed in ones system, and the chances of being involved in an accident.

And heroine use is up. Hmm. Gateway drug?

Actually, I don't buy into the gateway drug idea. I think it's just a coincidence. I believe it's most likely because of an increase in prescription pain killer addiction.

Well I can say it was a gateway drug for me, in that after I tried it and realized it wasnt what it was made out to be, I decided to try others and see.

A drug is a drug is a drug. There is no level of cannabis, alcohol, opiates etc that does not diminish one's ability to safely drive a vehicle. On this, unlike AGW, the debate is over.

Amphetamines might improve safety in certain limited instances, but not alcohol or pot.

We need to get off the idea that it's ok to drink or drug and drive; it isn't. There is no safe level.

Remember, I'm for the complete legalization of all drugs. Education and honesty is the answer. Educate on the perils, be honest on the effects, completely.

Drugs and alcohol can be and are great things in life when used appropriately. Use and driving is not an appropriate application, time and place, mutually exclusive.

    Cheers

Go back and read the thread. I am advocating for a standardized level of THC intoxication while driving, above that level go to jail, below go home. Stop perverting my words.

LOL Bring on the Heroines to use! I'm in!

Seriously, heroin use is up most likely because of the "crack" down on prescription writing by the DEA. Pressure on doctors is limiting scrips for pain and those that might have a dual diagnosis of pain and addiction might be being seen here.

Just a thought, nothing happens in a vacuum.

Considering constant exposure to marijuana dulls your brains ability to react, yes, its necessary. Each time lil' Timmy Pothead burns through his ounce of "medical marijuana" for his "headaches" hes going to hop in his car and drive to the pot club for another sack. Lil' Timmy is turning into more and more of a moron each time he sparks up. His brain is rotting away. Like it or not it is fact and his personal choices to waste his life huffing burned plant matter can have consequences on those around him and he should have to answer for that should it ever happen.

I'm all for applying those same laws to alcohol. Do we have a deal?

You liberals are always telling us how great pot is and how its not attached to any exterior criminal behavior or damage to property or body. So these laws shouldn't concern you because they'll never be needed, right?

It's funny that in 2014, people are still trying to convince people marijuana is a dangerous drug. It's not. The world isn't flat either.

Not to encourage people to drive around stoned I have to say that little Timmy was already a moron as is the case with 90% of addicted people. I drove all over Austin and a lot of Texas stoned in the 70s in a 140 MPH Dodge and never got a scratch on it. My brother is the hardest working person I have ever met and he did it all in teh70s&80s. He has cut back on the pot now but has gone into some big money negotiations stoned and come out a millionaire.

To know if Pot was the cause of these accidents we would have to know how stoned the people were at that is very difficult. Right now pot tests will show the same result for several days so the dead driver may not have been stoned at all.

There is a very good chance that the police who rely of pot enforcement revenue have fudged the numbers as the push for legalization ramped up.
