Too often I hear self-identified conservatives decrying liberals as reckless, or self-identified liberals accusing conservatives of ignorance, often for a policy that not all conservatives or liberals agree with.

Blanket terms like that can obfuscate the real issues. Demagogues use them to rule through fear and division. I think people need to keep in mind to argue over individual policies instead of allowing political identities to turn it into a mindless back-and-forth of insults.

And if those policies are AND HAVE BEEN DEMONSTRATED TO BE ignorant, if not based on out-and-out lies? And if, for example, repub tactics, BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION, fit the description "Demagogues use them to rule through fear and division?"

True enough, but that really isn't what politics has ever been.

Politics is a popularity contest always has been. Don't get me wrong I prefer to to debate merits of policy too, but just do it for yourself. Urging others to is little more than a wasted effort.

Scary how effective it is. Divide and conquer, it's classic. And the masses have been so intentionally dumded down snd accustomed to being controlled, seldom do many even realize anything other than the entertaining circus while they sip their kool-ade. What the hell is free and rational thinking? Close to extinction
we FEEL though.... " and they will beg, make us your slaves, but feed us" tragic:(

I get extremely tired of the childish attack ads myself.

What I would like to see is this:

Focus on the issues, present both the pros and the cons of the issues, let the candidate state where he or she stands on the issues in a thoughtful and logical manner.

End this childish gotta zap them so I can nab the position nonsense.

Pot/kettle no one fear mongers more than the left in the USA everything is the moral equivalent of war, war on poverty, war on racism which they refuse to admit was won twenty years ago or more but they keep stirring up because they can't win without it. War on women largely conducted by the left itself against women who object to leftist policies that in fact cheapen life and women.

I'd like to politely point out that you're guilty of this at times too, so like all people you should be careful not to fall into this trap.

I couldn't agree more. The worst part is when I am talking about a specific policy with somebody, and based on my opinion on that particular policy, they judge my entire political philosophy by placing me into either the "liberal" or "conservative" camp.

    I really honestly try.

But when everybody else around you is attacking you, it's hard not to.

I'm not perfect and I don't claim to be.

Also, stop singling me out. When I see you start getting on to others who do the exact same thing then you'll have substance in your retarded comments.

If you continue to single me out I will place you on ignore.
