While he and his progressive supporters claim that Americans want "comprehensive immigration reform" (amnesty), the results in Oregon loudly suggest otherwise. Oregon is a deep blue state and liberal voters there not only vote Democrat consistently, they just legalized recreational use of marijuana. This is no red state, by any stretch. Still, by a 68% to 33% (rounding errors, relax), the liberal voters of Oregon said, essentially, "hell no" to the idea of giving illegal aliens the right to have Oregon drivers licenses. Predictably, progressives are blaming "racism" for why this occurred, even though they are accusing their fellow progressives of this cardinal sin. Measure 88 received more votes than did the marijuana bill. More people voted on measure 88 than for the Governor who won office. It received more votes than anything else on the ballot, actually. Clearly it was a very important issue to the citizens of Oregon, and the results were not even close. Progressives haven't been talking about this story too much, because they know how harmful it is to their narrative concerning illegal immigration, and how Americans apparently support it. Obama should be wondering right now what it would do to his party when even a deep blue state sends a clear message that they do not want this.
The people of Oregon have only to look across the border to California to see what happens when unchecked illegal immigration takes hold. It has corrupted every aspect of life here and I plan to migrate north as soon as possible.
Same. The problem is that many of these illegals (or at least their children) will also migrate North. It's unfortunate that they can't stay in the messes they create for themselves. They follow the white conservative demographic around, looking for good schools, good neighborhoods, good jobs, and they bring their reckless breeding habits and politics with them. Eventually there will be nowhere left to go to.
I was one who voted NO on the very, very stupid bill. Why don't they just get an international drivers license?
There are some enclaves of illegals in Oregon but nothing like California where you actually see whole communities where English is a second language...a far distant second at best. The overwhelming rejection of what dim witted Governor Kitzhaber tried to do by government fiat is good news and a good sign. And in a side note I have to laugh (a lot) at the Think Progress piece you cited that says issuing driver's licenses to illegals would be a good solution to the problem of jailing all those without a license or insurance. So there you have the progressive formula for dealing with crime: just make whatever is illegal legal...voila! No problem!
The people of Oregon did themselves a favor. This will make the illegals much less likely to choose their state to drive into the dirt.
Get ready. With what the SCOTUS did today with Arizona, it's only a matter of time until Oregon's ban get's thrown out. Sons of (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)es !!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty much. And this will mean that even more democratic voters will be pissed off and leave the party. Because Obama wants to trump their vote with his belief and now has the Supreme Court authority to do it. Oregon may have voted but the King says it shall be otherwise. The voters of Oregon do not matter, what they want does not matter, only what Obama wants will matter in the end. Sorry Oregon, but you put the (*)(*)(*)(*)**** in office.
