I think this story illustrates how some people care more about animals than people. These are the folks who proudly boast they would save their dog from a burning building before they'd save you.

Have you noticed we never see those dogs with Obama's daughters EVER? Heck, we seldom see them at all unless Obama or Michelle want a photo op and even then not very often! As for Trig...he's mentally handicapped. He may be 6 years old physically and age wise but he's nowhere near that mentally. And who's to say Sarah didn't correct him after she took the picture? People (not you) seem to be judging this little boy like he was a normal kid and unfortunately he's not. As for taking the picture...I probably would have too if my mentally handicapped child figured out something on his own. It would have been a big thing in my home!

I had a Newfoundland and a Great Pyrnees (not at the same time) and the things my 2 year old daughter did with that Newfie would have outraged Peta even worse. As for the Great Pyrnees...my great nieces and nephews used to sleep on him! And he loved it! Now my daughter has two boys (ages 9 and 7) and they have a German Shepherd dog and believe me they get physical with that dog but when Smudge doesn't want to continue or doesn't want to be bothered...he gets up and goes upstairs. Those boys know he's off limits if he's in mom's room. :) I think people fail to understand that Trig has Down's Syndrome and so him figuring out that to stand on the dog would achieve his goal WAS a pretty BIG thing! As a proud mom...I would have done the same thing Sarah did! And how much do you want to bet that the dog either got up and moved shortly after the pic was taken or Sarah removed him from the dog? I'll bet a good chunk of money on one of those things happening. And you can't just tell a Down's Syndrome kid "no" or "don't do that" or "you're going to hurt the doggie" like you would a normal kid! That's why they're considered "handicapped". And even normal kids don't absorb the warnings a lot of times!

Hell I'm a 58 year old woman and I don't look half as old as she does...ok 3/4 as old.I have some crow's feet around my eyes and a few "laugh" lines near my mouth, and some wrinkles on my forehead (noticeable because I lost all my hair to chemo years ago) but dang...Ellen looks like she's been rode hard and put up wet!

there's no good reason to allow a child to stand on a dog

I would say that's more child harrassment by dog. lol. That child did NOT want anything to do with that dog and that dog just would not stop!

You just reminded me of something my daughter said when I was visiting over the holidays. She takes Muay Thai Kickboxing and she has finally come to the conclusion that she "pays a man to beat her up on an almost daily basis". Totally off topic I know but your mention of paying oriental women to walk on your back and the other poster talking about standing on a dog and giving him back injuries made me think that maybe people were paying oriental women to stand/walk/hurt their backs! :) (Don't mind me...I'm getting old and the memory and wit isn't what it once was)

Why not? Her Down's Syndrome son figured out a solution to his problem on his own! If she didn't post it because she's proud of him for figuring it out by himself...she does have thousands of other moms with Down Syndrome kids following her and I'm sure she is someone they respect and would be glad to see the picture. Heck, I post tons of pics of my grandson on FB and I'm not anywhere near as recognizable as Sarah!

I just hope the poor little kid doesn't grow up to be a drunken brawler like his brothers and sisters.
