I was just reading a thread on other forum about parents of children who commited suicide and I noticed that out of the top ten comments all the people who killed themselves were men. If you go to the thirteenths spot you will find the first woman that committed suicide. Do American men commit a suicide so often? I'm just wondering what you guys think would be a good way to help prevent male suicide?
Teach them the conservative values of morality and virtue instead of the liberal mentality that everyone is worthless without the government and a victim. When kids hear Obama and the dems telling them everyday that they did not build that it sends a depressing message and removes any sense of self-worth from the child.
In simple terms there is nothing that can be done. Those who have reached the point of considering suicide as a valid option, have already gone beyond the point of being able to be helped. If they wish to kill themselves, then they will do such, regardless of whatever attempt is made to stop them.
Q: What do you think could be done to lower male suicide rate? A: More bootylicious babes and less Political Forum.
so someone asks a serious question we get a crazy partisan rant. I think one thing is that we have to teach young men to talk about what they are feeling and not be seen as weak when in emotional turmoil.
when a person looses purpose, the reason to continue to live many end that life Feminism and liberalism has striped away mans purpose
Oh the ANGST......it's so much fun! Ya, The Evil That Is Woman causes these big tough men to be too scared to continue ....GOOD!
It has been in the news that pills called anti-depressants actually make many more likely to commit suicide, homicide & other violence. Pill companies even admit anti-depressants may increase suicide risk. This is because they made mental health pills according to a theory (never proven) for 50+ years. In the 1800s nearly all Docs knew that cannabis ("marijuana") was the best for treatment for all mental health issues. That was from the US Dispensatory of 1851, which was mentioned in the early1970s book "Licit & Illicit Drugs" published by Consumers Union, the Consumer Reports people. But the Feds essentially banned it in 1937, after being in pharmacies for up to 100 years. 26% of those who use cannabis for medical reasons say they use it to treat depression.
These days being a man is almost in and of itself considered being a deranged criminal. Doesn't surprise me at all that many men fall victim to the liberal pressures of doctors, teachers, women, authority figures etc. who are all telling them what they are, think, and feel is wrong and must either be punished or medicated.
Here is an interesting chart: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0779940.html the reason I posted that is that I thought you were all wet. As a child of the 50's I was taught real men don't cry and men always kept their feelings inside them. The suicide rate for males was 21.2 per 100,000 in the 1950's. Now a generation or two have been brought up and taught it is alright for men to cry and show their feelings. Since 2000 to 2010 the male suicide rate has fallen between 17.7 and 19.8 per 100,000. So you may have a valid point. At least the stats favor your point of view. You learn something new everyday. Regardless, a growing man crying still looks like a wimp to me. It just doesn't seem right.
Actually there were less suicides among males when men were men and before the left turned many of them into whiney little metrosexuals who's idea of a good night is watching The Notebook.
You are misrepresenting that charts information. You are ignoring the fact that from 1975-2000 the suicide rate spiked way above the 1950 rate and only started to come down around the year 2000. So there has not been a steady decline whatsoever which means that the current lower rate is due to an external circumstance, not an internal one. If we follow the progression of the data the rate should be climbing higher but what we are seeing is some anomaly causing a contradiction in the data. Basically this lower suicide rate is not normal, it is being caused by a temporary event and the rate will return back to its normal tracking soon. Probably by the end of the decade.
77.9% of suicides are males. 70% of suicides are white males. Source Most of the research I've read on it suggests that it is because of the different societal pressures placed on men. Roughly speaking (and this is a gross simplification), if a woman is financially successful then good for her, but if she isn't then it's fine, especially if she has kids (then it just means that she is putting them first). But then isn't financially successful he's a deadbeat, and if he is he is working long hours for money that often isn't for him - it's for the family, and the extra spending money usually is split between him and his wife, or between them and the kids, if they have them. I've seen a lot of guys who are selfish when they are primary income earners - but, at least in the circles I've been in, they've been chastized for being so selfish more than women in the same position are. Also no women were drafted to go to Nam. Different societal expectations.
I don't know if I'd be that fatalistic about it, but certainly suicide is a common and long-running problem for humanity. I think suicides can be and have been prevented in any number of cases, but since those don't make headlines (neither do most suicides, for that matter), it's not something of which most of us have much awareness or understanding.
Take a more serious approach to mental health for teens, both men and women. Sure, more men commit suicide, but women attempt it more often. Simply, we need to focus on the wellness of our younger people. However weak people must die as the most useless element of our society.
The temporary event is probably a combination of coroners classifying someone who downs too many pills an "accidental overdose" and not a suicide. Another phenomenon that has been noted in veterans, which may be true in other cases, are people who commit suicide by means aimed at disguising that it was a suicide. A suicidal person might, for instance, wrap their car around a light pole, run off the shoulder of a road at a high rate of speed, etc. instead of putting a gun to their head--suicide by MVA makes it look like an accident and potentially brings insurance money to the next of kin.
Improved healthcare with easier, more affordable access to treatment and medicine, an improved economy with more employment opportunities. That's all it would take. But first of all we must understand why do they commit suicide? What is wrong with their lives? What are their problems? Otherwise it does not have any sense.
So, we KNOW that people with a more 'conservative' outlook are somehow less susceptible to suicide? I'm as liberal as can be politically in most ways... and love life as much as anyone. - - - Updated - - - Amen to that!! You are spot-on.
Which data are you referring to? In the category "All ages", the rate never exceeded the 1950 level of 13.2, while in the "male, all ages" category, 1990 was the only year to exceed 1950, and only by .3! The only "spike" was in women's suicide in 1970, which had already returned to baseline by 1980. OK, so putting aside that the chart doesn't actually seem to say that, why is the 1975-2000 data the "real" data, and the 2000-2015 data the "anomaly"? If I were to pick an anomaly, it would be the 1970 spike in women's suicide, which quickly disappeared. And what exactly is this supposed anomaly, anyway?
At least our government should make "better situation" to all citizens increase payment, social benefits and make all education and medicine - free(of course they will never do that, but...) Most suicides are committed only because of poor being, or nonreciprocal love(and the nonreciprocal love, often happens when man haven't got enough money)
