There have been several cases of botched attempts to kill deathrow inmates recently. They all use a cocktail of drugs for injection. Bad drugs, inept handlers, all contribute to a bad death. Why not place the prisoner in a small enclosed space and replace the oxygen with helium. The human body cannot tell the difference. In moments, he is asleep, in minutes, dead. No screaming, fighting or agony. The most humane method conceivable to end a life. Is that why we won't do it? We need to feel revenge, make them pay for their crimes? I'd like to hear from some psychiatrists. Contact your state governor and make the suggestion.
Why not make a real Thunderdome.....2 men enter 1 man leaves. Put it on pay per view, the Government makes the betting book and the taxpayers benefit while the murderers pay their debt to society and satisfy their blood lust all at the same time.
Murderers should be put to death (or not) in a whatever gruesome (or humane) manner the surviving family prescribes, for there can be no real justice for them otherwise. (I know, I know... unconstitutional.)
I don't really understand why we even do the lethal injection thing anyway. I suppose it's perceived as being "humane" and makes us look less barbaric than a guillotine or something. In my opinion dead is dead, if we really want to execute people quickly as painlessly then a 12ga shotgun in the mouth would achieve the desired result. It's pretty hard to botch that one. I suppose it somehow makes people feel better about actually killing somebody when they press a few buttons and the person falls asleep forever. But I suppose the helium thing would work too. I don't know why they don't do that. There's probably a patent on lethal injection cocktails and a contract or something.
Actually carbon monoxide would be a better choice. That said, I don't understand how using drugs to kill somebody can be that hard. They should just use an OD of almost any conventional anesthetic. Use what killed Michael Jackson, for example.
I don't understand how we can humanely euthanize animals but cannot seem to manage to do the same to humans. Granted, typically for different reasons, but still...
Why? Do you really think a cold bloody killer should share the same air as you/I do? What about child killers? Child rapists/killers? Mass murders? <do I need to go on?> There is a brain connection.....ie......something wrong with a certain percentage of the population. I do NOT want to live with these disconnected, brain damaged people. Apparently you do........ - - - Updated - - - Why? Do you really think a cold bloody killer should share the same air as you/I do? There are some people who simply do not deserve to remain alive after what actions they have taken. Why should there be dignity in death for those that gave no dignity to their victims?
A single .22 to the temple at the right angle is virtually foolproof, clean and quite humane. .... And costs a nickel. But I would be all for the victims Family choosing the death sentence. It would be very fair, and quite the sociology experiment.
.22 would work but a .45 would leave no doubt that dead is dead, especially when what passes as brains is all over the opposite wall.
The minutes it takes for the POS to sufficate is too slow and their attempts to suck air may not be so peaceful. There is far better, more organic way of executing evil people. Hemp is the wonder-weed. Ropes made from it are organic, resuable, biodegradable and can be made here in America.
Why not let the people decide as they are the ones who have to pay for it? On the next income tax form put a check box to add $1000 extra to their taxes that year to pay for murders to sit in jail instead of being executed. If they get enough money the killers live, if not then their sentence is carried out.
If they died, then it wasn't botched. Most of the people who are on death row deserve a bad death. Did they give their victims a peaceful death? That is the entire purpose of the criminal justice system.
Most of the comments on this thread sound similar to practices in the Muslim countries. Let's all become mediaeval barbarians. That is the right-wing American way.
Your revenge fantasies are insufficient justification for entrusting a justice system that has been proven fallible, many times over, with execution. Why do you want people to be executed for crimes they did not commit?
There's probably a hundred ways to kill someone without inflicting pain. But because of those against capital punishment we seem to make it complicated. I like the idea of killing the way they killed. That seems to work when we discipline little children who hit or bite. But I really don't care which process we use, I just want the human predators to assume room temperature.
Why do you want to protect people who have proven, without a shadow of doubt, to have committed a horrendous crime? Guess you'd have no problem with a murderer......etc living next door to you? Huh? I do have that problem......
You obviously have no idea how our justice system works. Why do you want people to be executed for crimes they did not commit? I have a serious problem with that. Until we have an infallible system, there is no reasonable justification for imposing irreversible penalties.
