Just something I've noticed, a lot of black people I meet (men and women) seem to be a lot more outgoing and expressive with strangers than most whites I know - this can be a good or bad thing. Ex. Some of the most friendly and outgoing people I've met are black, and they seem to be a lot more confident talking in a group setting with complete strangers - they also seem to be more carefree and not take things too seriously. On the flip side some of them seem like they become angry or offended too easily and fly off the handle.

Any idea why this is - I'm assuming it's more of a cultural thing. In general I'd say that white people and Hispanic seem to be more emotionally reserved and less outgoing and talkative. I don't know as many Asians where I live - though the Asians I've met usually seem to be friendly but shyer.

social, not emotional. Yes, might be some truth to that, they have their culture. I'm impressed by their wit actually, how they always have those fitting pwning lines in ebonics, how they move their heads when they talk, their body language, their pitch. It's amazing. and it just looks wrong when white people do that.

It's a cultural issue associated with living in America and American and British English started to diverge in the 1960s characterised by the rise of youth counterculture and Americans now use more emotive language than the British. Asians are the most reserved people on Earth but Asian Americans are visibly more emotional than their relatives in Asia and it's fair to assume that African Americans are less reserved than Africans.

What a shocker. Another thread dedicated to bashing blacks.

I am amazed at the racial hatred that seems to permeate the internet.

If you're going to accuse him of bashing blacks there's far better threads than this one to post it in. He's actually, for a change, not saying something controversial here.

People of different cultures express themselves emotionally different. Travel makes that pretty obvious.

It's only bashing blacks if you perceive emotions as wrong. lol

It's all in your head - just like your bogus thread about the cop saying "blacks should be hung at birth" which you got defeated on and refused to admit, lol

You mean observation of common cultural differences is inherently racist?

No, it is pretty much just folks sitting around badmouthing blacks based on stereotypes.

I am amazed that the forum has become a refuge for racism, both veiled and overt.

You still didn't read the thread, you just went off on a rant for no reason.

now, now, why do you have to deny reality? Does it make you feel better somehow? Are you telling me that black people in america typically don't have a certain accent, body language, and mannerism? That's what you percieve as stereotypes?

I read it. It is a blathering mess of stereotypes touting perceived white superiority.

If I was going to go with stereotypes, I would go with the "white racists are idiots" one. Seems the most obvious about now.

There has to be more to talk about, than black people. We've been the main topic of discussion on this board for about a week and a half now.

Well, racism gives folks a relief in their own life. Much easier to attack perceived faults in others than it is to be self honest about why ones life is so (*)(*)(*)(*)ing pathetic.

I guess. I mean, some of the things I've read have been down right hilarious. Maybe the Benghazi thing hasn't gone like they thought it would..

It would be interesting to see if there is some study covering what you have mentioned.

Where's the bashing part? I believe the words he used were "friendly," "outgoing," and "confident." It would appear to take some severely PC mental gymnastics to turn such overt flattery into something negative, wouldn't you agree?

Don't you think you're being a tad bit knee-jerk here just because he dared to make a post about racial differences? How about focusing on what he's actually saying instead of just reading a bunch of nonexistent nefarious subtext into it out of habit and social conditioning.

What are you talking about, man? Blacks are hung at birth. That's where the big penis myth comes from. :D

I'm sorry, but the response you're looking for here is called laughing. You're doing it wrong. It looks something like this, "Hahahahahahah....." or on the interwebs, perhaps more like, "lolololololo....."

    Now you try.

First, this involves stereotyping. A generalization of this gross breadth almost invariably makes judgments based on too small a sample. Second, it involves a judgment of individuals of how outgoing, emotional, etc. they are. Do you ever find that others opinions of whether or not you are shy, emotional, whatever are out of balance with your own? I am always worried about any statement that begins with Blacks are, women are, men are, dogs are - whatever. I find they are invariably wrong - or, at least- overgeneralized.

I’m new to the forum, but this is one of the most interesting questions I’ve seen posted so far.

In my opinion, black people ARE more emotional than people of other races. This is all based on personal experience, of course. I’ve been a musician for more years than most of you have been alive (jazz, blues, standards, other stuff), and in that time I’ve worked with loads of black, and white, musicians, mostly in clubs with mixed crowds (by choice: these are the hippest crowds).

Think about the musicians you love the most, in my case, that would include Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Sarah Vaughn, BB King, etc. All are great musicians BECAUSE they are emotional, and able to express that emotion in their music. Blacks are far more free in their playing, and their effect on audiences can easily be felt. The emotional level on an entire club can immediately be changed by players able to express themselves this way. That same freedom and emotion may be a big part of what what makes so many black players the best drummers and bassists. Many of the better musicians I know can tell the race (black, hispanic, white) by just listening to just a few phrases of a recording.

Another thing I’ve found, is that white players are more inhibited and they, typically, approach music in a more intellectual way. But that approach seems to make the white players extremely good horn players, where they have to read well and work tightly with the whole horn section. But there are always exceptions: I worked with a white guitarist from Germany who was amazing on all counts, expressive, free, emotional, just a terrific player.

Most blacks I’ve known are also extremely warm people, able to touch and hug and smile, and converse, easily and naturally. I’ve found this to be true of both black men, and, black women. I also heard about a study (cannot provide link) which found that blacks are eight times more likely to help someone in trouble than are people of other races.

Sadly, that same high emotional expressiveness also seems to make angry black men capable of some extremes in bad behavior, too.

I'd say your interaction with blacks, at many levels, has probably been fairly limited. I’ve had close relationships with loads of black men and women over many decades, and I’ve found the characteristics I’ve described, above, to be highly reliable and true of the broader population. And, because of these experiences, I’m comfortable meeting, interacting or working with, or living near, blacks of all backgrounds.

If it's stereotypical, IMO it's because many blacks are consciously choosing the above-described behavior and that's what others see. As described, it seems positive,so why are you offended?

IMO this thread is an attempt to understand each other, not put down.
