There are legal reasons to unmask someone, and officials are required to follow proper procedures to make sure the unmasking is being done for a good reason. But it's also possible that someone could have been unmasked illegally. If an intelligence agency needs to know the name of the person in the communication, and so they must ask that the alias be removed. Removing the alias is known as "unmasking."

The name if a US person is confidential. leaking the name to any unauthorized source is illegal. If the unmasking is determined to have occurred for political purposes, that is also illegal.

I bolded - I think the Free world (not Russia, and perhaps Lil Kim in N Korea) wants this to end and for America to come to its senses.
I still feel that this is a very bad dream (a long-running nightmare).
The Russian connection is all about MONEY - money is all that Trump values...

Bubble of truth, pal. Don's approval ratings sink monthly. The Russian investigation. Empty campaign promises. A Health Care Plan that is worthless and....the wall.

    Hey! How's that wall a com'in?

Approval ratings directly tied to an endless stream of unsourced attack articles?

Russian investigation that's produced nothing in the last 11 months?

Empty campaign promises? He's tried and hinted at many more. It's not like empty campaign promises are anything new though.

The health care plan is a disaster. This is what happens when adults act like spoiled children. They make endless bad decisions.
The wall could be thought of as infrastructure. It's basicly the same as a road or bridge.

And the other droolers are convinced he did, but can't point out any evidence.

So are the subpoenas about the unmasking or the leaking?

The fiasco involves an attempt to take down an elected president by not using evidence, but by conjecture and wishful thinking. The source for wilkileaks was Rich not Russia. The only improper behavior which are felonies involves the leaking driven by nothing but partisan politics and the unmasking, again politically driven.

Will you be badly depressed when your hopes are dashed against the rocks of the Kingdom of Trump? And democrats are welcomed to federal prison? Where they watch the dem party continue to implode?

4 of the 7 subpoenas issued were for the ongoing alleged Russian election interference. The House Intelligence Committee issued a subpoena to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn as part of its investigation into Russian interference in the election but his is also so that he produces documents. Congress can compel the production of documents and sworn testimony from almost anyone at almost any time. Flynn previously declined a request to appear before the committee and to provide requested documents, according to Rep. Adam Schiff. This prompted the decision to prepare subpoenas for the information. The documents Schiff wants to see may or may not be classified but most likely some are.

Congress’s investigative power is largely unchecked by the courts however, if he is also currently under investigation by special counsel, Mueller, Flynn may not produce documents or testify if it conflicts with the special investigation. ??

The other 3 subpoenas are related to unmasking. As you are aware, a leaker would first need to be identified. If so, an indictment would normally follow except in rare instances such as the FBI's Clinton Email investigation.

The bipartisan Intel committee is the joke. Schiff should have moved to end it when a special counsel was appointed. He had the chance but blew it.

The 3 new subpoenas for Obama's crew may actually lead to real illegal activity, LOL.

Any open congressional investigation is a sham. Doesn't matter what party or what subject. It's all about grandstanding for the cameras to help the party fund raise.

Closed classified hearings I could certainly see some good coming from.

I believe 4 of the 6 are for unmasking and leaking. By the way, unnecessary unmasking is also a crime.

The only confirmed unmask was Flynn, who was getting paid by Russia and lying about it. The leak may be illegal (but appreciated), but that unmasking looks justified.

Leaking classified jnformation and an unmasked name in that classified information is for the leaker.

The lying to the VP was not. The note reporting the income most likely is.

I would agree the unmasking looks justified, but his name showing up in the NY Times means someone committed a felony and violated his 4th Amendment Rights as a U.S. Citizen.
