Poverty is a fact of life in a capitalist system as evidence by the claim that 3% unemployment is considered "full employment"

The fact remains that the Democratic Party over the last 90 years has done FAR more for the middle class and poor than Republicans (I give you Social Security. Medicare, and Medicaid as just SOME examples) and would have done more were it not for the obstinance of Republicans

It is so typical of con artists to complain about poverty when they promote a poverty-ridden economic policy: trickle-down economics.

What reasonable teacher (or parent!) would ignore a single child's illiteracy ... much less 75% of them?

    This can't be possible.

This is quite true. It's all about working their aspirations to your advantage.

It is far too big of a problem to dismiss as simply "falling through the cracks".

Well .. not so much. The cracks are few and narrow. The vast majority of people who remain in entrenched poverty do so by choice.

"By choice" meaning I'm too lazy to get my butt out of bed today, I'm too lazy to go look for a job, I think I'll go ahead and have another kid, maybe I'll get a new tattoo when I go pick up a pack of cigs....

A lot in my area voted for Clinton--she carried my city--but the reality is I have known far more poor republicans/conservatives than rich ones as they are Jesus Republicans. Always found it amusing to hear them complain about welfare and then brag about how much they were getting back on their earned income credit.

It's a bit different for me. The Federal government is a big employer in my area. About half of my Trumpster friends are government employees who are well paid, have nice pensions, lifetime health care. They rant about Obamacare, but are either on TriCare of some other government program. They are often boasting about figuring out new ways to game the Federal system, and view waste as a big joke.

I have a lot of double dippers too, making big money on government privatization, which is the biggest racket of them all!

And yet, every one of them blames the imaginary poor, rants about free enterprise, and blames everyone but themselves for the size of government and waste.

    They all voted for Trump.

Government employees in my area irritate me regardless of their political leanings. I have worked for Uncle Sam. I know the deal. They act like they are making some noble sacrifice working for the government when they think in their minds they would be super rich if they weren't so civic minded. Even starting pay for teachers is higher than the median income in this area, and it just goes up from there. Federal employees are doing quite well compared to most folks around here. Perhaps when tobacco was king and we had some well-paid corporate headquarters around here they could have done better, but not now.

The left promise free stuff for votes in urban areas. Perhaps the other 3/4 are trying to improve their lives without assistance or have accepted their lives as is.?

Didn't say that. Of course there are poor in rural and suburban areas. The ones the live off assistance want to be closer to the services.

We live in the suburbs but, when we moved here it was out in the county.

Interestingly enough, the Liberal cities like Austin TX are forcing the poor and middle class to flee the city proper with high taxation and rents.

    BZZZZT Assbackwards!

It is the Republicans who need to explain this!

Why are the poor still poor if "trickle down" works?

Why are the poor still poor if "taxcuts create jobs"?

Why are the poor still poor if "welfare reform" works?

Why are the poor still poor if "DEREGULATION" works"

Why are the poor still poor if "Free Markets" work?

All of those Republican ideas were LEGISLATED and all of them have FAILED MISERABLY to deliver on what was promised!

So the onus is entirely on the Republicans to EXPLAIN why NONE of their policies actually work in practice to actually help anyone other than the wealthy 1%.

I truly wish that starting pay for teachers was higher than the median income in my area. We can't even begin to get the funding for that worthy goal!

Because the poor generally make very bad life decisions, which keeps them poor. Not accounting for genetic mental or physical ailments, good luck finding a responsible, intelligent poor person. And Democrats reward all those bad life decisions. You can trickle down all the money you want to people who waste or abuse it and it won't make them successful. You can also give them loads of money and they'll invariably blow it all and be poor again. Just look at most lottery winners from poor backgrounds and how they end up worse after they win. /case closed

NOTHING "trickled down" so that was your bad decision because no poor people decided that they wanted to be trickled on.

NO JOBS were created either so that was another of your Republican bad decisions.

Republicans gave LOADS OF MONEY to wealthy people and they blew it by NOT creating jobs which was another bad decision.

That you cannot explain why ALL of those bad Republican decisions FAILED and instead resort to blaming the victims of your own bad decisions says volumes.

When are Republicans ever going to learn to take responsibility for their own bad decisions that are harming We the People?

Facts are not your friend, are they?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobs_created_during_U.S._presidential_terms

Bush/Cheney had an effective zero job growth rate during their 8 year regime AFTER giving away MASSIVE taxcuts to the wealthy 1% "job creators".

Feel free to read the link and close your "education gap" on this topic.
