    No it doesn't.

3D printing prints parts. The parts have to cleaned, fitted and put together and not ALL parts can be 3D printed like springs, barrels, etc.

    Stop with your fear mongering!

There was a time in this nation when a child of any age could walk into a hardware store and buy any gun if he had the money. My grandfather was 10 when he walked into a Sears and bought his first gun, an old Colt single action, with money he earned doing yardwork and odd jobs around town. It was a safer society back then too; no school shootings either.

It will take more than a few hoops to make sure that only law abiding citizens have access to guns. How do you stop straw purchases? How do you stop criminals from importing guns from over the border to sell illegally?

If your process to stop prohibited persons resulted in some percentage of law abiding citizens being misclassified and losing their 2A rights, are you okay with that?

Honestly, it gets honest people killed or hurt.

How? When it becomes acceptable to require people to jump through time-consuming hoops to exercise a right, that's like the old adage of "A right delayed is a right denied."

I think of the case of Carol Bowne, the NJ woman who ended an abusive relationship and was threatened with murder by her ex. She got a restraining order and applied for a permit to buy a gun. Even though NJ state law says such applications should be completed within a fixed time period, she was nearly 3 months past that time period and still had not had her permit approved. She actually called to find out if there was any information on her application the same day as her ex showed up and stabbed her to death in her driveway.

In the end, "adding a step or two" for legal gun owners meant that a woman with a documented need was denied her ability to defend herself, and such is 100% unacceptable.

    Exactly so.

The hardest thing for a lot of people to come to grips with is that compassion can only go so far. You can't save everybody; especially if they won't life a finger to help themselves, but you can kill yourself trying. A lot of people feel a calling to try to help those less fortunate than they, and that sense of compassion can be a beautiful and uplifting thing. But... I've also seen people who gravitated into social work, or medicine, or education, or even law enforcement due to their desire to help the world be a better place, only to have their spirits crushed by the insidious and pervasive malevolence that lurks in parts of this world. We do have a duty, as a moral and ethical society, so care for our less fortunate as best we can; but we also need to accept that duty does have limits.

As a Border Patrol agent I saw a lot of things I truly wish I could unsee; things that at times seemed impossible to bear. It became easy to believe that humanity was an irredeemable, vile infection upon this Earth, which made it hard to do the job as it needed to be done. But, it helps to have a good support system, and there are always those moments that remind you that there are people worth fighting for, and the job is still worth doing.

I went through this entire thread and no one has brought up how much it would cost to 3D print a decent working gun. First, you’d need a really decent industrial 3D printer. Those run anywhere between $3,000 to $100,000 + (https://www.google.com/search?q=ind....69i57j0l5.10918j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8). The more decent ones will most likely fall into the $30,000 and up price range. There might be some decent ones for less, but shopping for these things aint easy. Then you'll need the raw materials that will be needed to build the gun. Then you'll need the software to print all the parts for whatever gun it is you need. The cost of raw materials will be dependent upon what type of gun you want to 3D print. Then you need to know how to assemble the gun from the parts you made, this is a skill that most people don't have... especially criminals. Then you'll have to test the gun for defects and make adjustments accordingly. Also a skill that most people do not have.

Factoring all of the above in (and I probably left a few things out) who's going to shell out that kind of money for something that they can get for a few hundred dollars at any gun dealer? I can see these being used mostly to build parts maybe to replace worn ones, but still that's an expensive venture. Cheaper to get parts from a gun dealer. And criminals buy their guns on the street so I don't see criminals 3d printing guns like @Covfefe seems to believe. They'll get their guns the same way they have been all along.

So, those of you opposed to this can stop freaking out now and go about your day and maybe relax a little.

EDIT: One post above mine mentions cost as I was typing mine out.

    co-ops.

A pool of people coming together to buy printer and material. Like a gun club.

I don't see a bunch of criminals doing this though. Most already have their guns and more to choose from in their own little arsenals.
Well funded Terrorist group... maybe, but then it's still probably cheaper stuff the way they always have been.

The only people that might benefit form this would be a gun club (like you mentioned) or a dealer. Still though lathes and presses have been around for a long long time and it's probably just easier to do it the way it's being done now.

I didn't say anything about criminals. I'm talking about law abiding citizens exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.

Right, I don't have a problem with that. If a gun club wants to go in on an industrial 3D printer that's their business. If some rich guy wants to buy one for himself, I don’t care. Doesn't affect me.

Do you think I'm anti gun or anti 2nd amendment?

That world is gone forever. In the here and now this technology will make guns available to people who shouldn’t have them.

Regarding the OP very good news and thanks for posting it.

As far as the 14th it specifically mentions “born or naturalized” as the qualifiers for who is a citizen. The unborn do not qualify as citizens based on the 14th.

The abortion issue is based largely on the right to privacy. While many will say the constitution doesn’t mention “privacy” others can also correctly point out there is no mention of a right to “self-defense”. The 9th amendment explains why both can be protected rights even though they weren’t directly mentioned.

The right to privacy will be the best legal defense for preventing a national gun registration. All of our rights are intertwined. While banning abortion might sound like a good idea to many. For anyone that wants to defend our right to bear arms. It wouldn’t be a good thing at all IMO.

Try to calm down. I don't think your straw man is going to happen.

    Read post - #188 - http://www.politicalforum.com/index...aking-software.537198/page-10#post-1069333823

In the here and now the ones that shouldn't have guns most likely can't afford the technology needed to make guns via 3D printing anyway. Nor do they have the skillset to assemble and make the necessary adjustments to a fire arm once it's assembled. Try to relax.

Feel better now? Guess it is easier to completely ignore everything in front of you as long as you only have to achnowledge that which fulfills your narrow view on things.

I'm sorry you do not like the fact you could support your claim and were forced to admit as much.
Next time, don't make claims you cannot support.

I did back it up, but just not to your insanely specific requirements.

You claimed causation. For that proof, there's only one requirement, and its the one I laid out.

And that is why I said I could not prove it. I can admit when I can't prove something.

That said, I believe I've put forth enough evidence that while I cannot prove it imperically, I still believe it to be true and will patiently wait for the mathematical modeling to get enough data to prove its initial findings.

More's the pity. There was a lot of that world worth sustaining.

The technology isn't as important as the fact that "people who shouldn't have them" have been acquiring, possessing, and using weapons since the dawn of time. That reality will never change, regardless of how many Chicken Littles wail about the sky falling.[/QUOTE]
