She thinks Assad is a good guy and Syrians were happy and prosperous until the US caused the civil war.

She doesn't get that illiteracy has been rising steadily in Sria for 20 years or why.

I'm curious about why people will reject information on one hand, and not reject it on the other. I understand what confirmation bias is, but I'd like to know what a person's biases are. It's not about the politics, it's just a curiosity.

According to the Syrians I know, and the ones who moved back - YES! He did a lot of good for his country, or they wouldn't be moving back. But according to the propaganda networks with their self serving interests, Assad's a monster.

The real low down on the false flag chemical attack from the Greek site Defensenet.

According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the false flag attack is to give Nato the excuse to bomb the Syrian troops in support of the terrorists as they attack the provinces of Hama and Aleppo.

The Russian Minister of Defense Igor Konashenkov said the leader of Tahrir al-Sham which is another name for Al Nusra/Al Queda, had called on all militants in Syria's northwest province of Idlib to prepare for an attack on Syrian government forces.

So what is Russia doing, other than revealing the plans for the false flag attack:

Right now there are two Russian cruisers in the Aegean Sea sailing towards the Eastern Mediterranean. They passed through the Dardanelles with an ammunition load which probably includes Zircon missiles that is unstoppable by any system, and can hit targets at a distance of 1000 km!

Also two Russian submarines were sailing east of Crete and three more missile boats of the Russian Navy are also being deployed. This is in addition to the current ships off the coast of Syria. Russia is basically telling Nato that this time they will react.

Gee, so the nation that supports the Syrian government, which uses chemical weapons on its own people, and claims every one of these attacks is either a 'false flag' or faked is now claiming a 'false flag' ahead of time. So, if the Syrian Government, which Russia supports, decided to use chemical weapons on its own people again Russia will already have provided a cover story. How convenient.

Yes. Terrorists in Syria have prepared barrels of chlorine to poison civilians and make fake news. Assad is to blame. Again highly likely?

    OP

Oh no, not again!! I'm waiting for the word 'Novichok' to be mentioned in the story about the couple who died in the Egyptian hotel. In the olden days(!) when fake news was used because there was no real news around, it was called 'the silly season'.

It's because this is the age of Fake News, so the default is to simply presume that everything you read is fake news unless that news is substantiated. The plain fact is that evidence/proof is no longer needed, nor even expected. We live in seriously weird times?

More likely Syria is yet again planning to murder its own citizens and cooking up a cover story.

Of course, this is based on an RT story, so there is a less than 50% chance any of it is even close to being true.

There's nothing like the emotive words 'barrel bombs' to stir the gullibles into simplistic indignation against Assad. Why TF would a leader 'kill his own people' ffs? :wall: :wall:

Whenever a chemical attack occurs, it benefits the terrorists and not the Syrian army, so wouldn't that fact itself point to the real culprits? But logic I guess is not one of your strong points.

The more Assad does for his people, providing humanitarian help, etc., the more the propaganda machines blast out the opposite to cover up their own crimes. It reminds me of when the MSM went wild with stories that Russia bombed 7 non existent hospitals in Syria, so they could draw attention away from the hospital the Americans bombed in Afghanistan.

    In the meantime:

"The United States keeps building up the group of cruise missile carriers in the Middle East region, connected with the preparation of a regular provocation with an alleged 'use of chemical weapons' in the province of Idlib," Konashenkov said.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the US destroyer may strike any part of Syria from the Mediterranean. Also the destroyer USS The Sullivans, armed with 56 cruise missiles, arrived in the Persian Gulf several days ago, while a US В-1В bomber carrying 24 air-to-surface AGM-158 JASSM cruise missiles has been deployed at Al Udeid air base in Qatar, Konashenkov noted.

So if the gas attacks occur, this is really russia and assad using gas, and blaming it on the US?

Well, that just does not make good sense, for there is nothing to be gained by russia or assad. Unless you can do some mental contortions and come up with how this helps assad. So give it to us.

This sort of thing has gone on as long was we have been supporting the enemies of assad. Have you not paid close attention to the timing of these gas attacks? I suggest you remove whatever kind of blinders you are using Margot. IMO, you and others are natural marks for con men, working in shopping mall parking lots. A total lack of clarity of thought and critical thinking. This stuff is beyond obvious. When something is chock full of incoherence, as these gas attacks have been since day one, it should give a reasonable mind some pause, and red flags should then go up. Something is not right about it, logically and rationally and yet you seem to be able to totally ignore that. But you are not alone. We have far too many people with these sorts of off line minds. And it is the height of absurdity.

Is it because, something simple, like, you are pro saudi, and the saudis want to take assad down? That is what it looks like to someone paying attention to your posts.

Well, in the times that we live in, if a person does not possess a critical brain, that can operate with logic and reason, heaven help those people! I am appalled and astounded how easily some of our minds here will buy into what is illogical, irrational and unreasonable, habitually. If something does not make sense, you better pause and consider other options. For anything worth believing has to be logical and rational, and non of these gas attacks meet that requirement. But if one can be sold such a bill of goods, god help us! For our minds are offline and there is no help there.

Because they're rebelling against him? I'm not saying Assad would or would not do that. Only his closest confidants would know that. However, many dictators have resorted to that kind of thing in order to quiet the rebellions. Conspiracy theories are all we have.

Yes, weird times. But again, I understand that bias confirmation plays the biggest role in this stuff, but what specifically are those biases? How do they develop?

LOL - There's no such thing as a "cruise missile carrier" in the United States Navy.

Typical response from a mind that perhaps can think critically, but for whatever reason runs and hides from it. You failed to address relevant points. As usual. And the reason being, IMO, you are incapable of doing it for it would take you deeper into irrationality and incoherence of thought. We see much of that on political forums. From people not up to the challenge.

What good is rationality, logic, reason? So few find a place for it, unless personally in danger and then it flowers like a field of flowers. For one is forced into it by survival. Only then does intelligence operate for some of us.
