Here Comes Comey - Again

Here we go on to round three - or is it five. The free and open GOP insisted that Comey respond to subpoena (Hillary again?) in a closed door session with the outgoing GOP committee. Comey refused because based on past experiences, Comey knew Republicans loved to leak biased snippets of closed door testimony. Comey demanded open hearings with public view. No dice. Enter negotiations.

Comey finally agreed to testify in closed door session, HOWEVER, he demanded (and got) the committee commitment to provide written transcripts of the full testimony and Comey is free to testify or comment in public as to what transpired in the hearing. Trust and love broke out everywhere. Tough guy that Comey. So what has the outgoing GOP achieved in all this? Perhaps more accurately, hoped to achieve? Now that Comey has pried the hearing open anyway there seems little need to avoid a public hearing in front of the TV cameras.

Politicians from all parties love to get on camera and play tough guy by roughing up a witness. They lust for spectacle like a struggling wannabe actor in a bit part. There is absolutely no debate as to who are the most egregious villains in grabbing the mic and spotlight - they all are. The thing is, when you make the spectacle about yourself, like the Dems did in the Kavanaugh testimony, it’s hard to go home and tell the kids why you aren’t an azshole.

It’s always risky to speculate on someone’s motivations, except when the motivations are as obvious a gigilo at a country club singles bar. The outgoing GOP kids thought to set up Comey so the bleachers would break out in a spontaneous eruption of “Lock him up!” Instead, the bleachers collapsed when Comey kicked them at a weak spot. The GOP children just couldn’t resist getting one more measure of sleaze in before leaving town in disgrace.

Go home an explain that to the kids.

Republicans have changed and evolved since 2010. Boehner is out. Cantor is out. McCain is out. Flake and Corker are out among others. And about 40 House republicans retired before they were primaried out of office in 2018. What do you suppose those named have in common?

The format of the hearing favors the Republicans who will question Comey one hour at a time (as opposed to alternating every 5 minutes), regroup while he spends one hour answering the dems softball questions and go at him again...

And as long as he can't refuse to answer questions under the sensitive information excuse which he would in public hearings, everyone wins.

 

The republicans don't want to hold an open hearing with Comey for fear he would embarrass them.

Not according to your OP, it all goes to the transcript, not public. What Comey chooses to do with the transcript is up to him, as long as he doesn't reveal classified information of course but no one promised him that the close door hearing will be restricted to non-classified information only, they never are, that's why they exist.

 

It is EXTREMELY RELEVANT, based upon CORRUPTION by bureaucrats and dem politicians that have been LOSING elections SINCE 2010.

THAT means dems are IDEOLOGICAL and don't give a damn what the PEOPLE WANT! The 2018 election was an outlier because the lyng liberal media went full blast against republicans 24/7 and only managed a measly 4 or 5 percent win in THE HOUSE.

I believe Capt. Nice was referring to the original reason the Republicans refused a public hearing and wanted the private hearing - which was so Comey couldn't embarrass them in public, and Republicans could selectively leak details, Comey obviously and wisely refused. The Republicans had to agree that Comey could talk fully afterwards and that the full transcript would be released, otherwise, he doesn't show up......and continues to fight the subpoena.

COMEY HAS EVERYTHING TO LOSE in a public forum. Any answers OR LIES he gives that prove him to be CORRUPT, Comey still has the OPTION to wait until authorities take action before he OUTS HIMSELF.

Sessions didn't do his job and didn't know whether to s*** or go blind. Now Comey will have to deal with a new AG.

So a FBI agent who is bias against Trump AND does the interrogation of HRC, rewording her felony charges of "extremely careless". Then Trump fires Comey who was in on it and starts a special investigation against Trump for his firing. Yeah, keep digging.
