That's not what I posted, I stated that there will be no new wall.

That is what you are fighting for against the experts working on the border. What is one to think?

He said Mexico would pay for it over and over. We all know that. People without a political agenda assumed that he was planning tariffs to accomplish that. It is what a businessman would do. He could not do it because of NAFTA so he went on a campaign to fix the NAFTA problem. Mexico will pay more. Whether we use it for a wall or something else is a different matter. He would have done well to explain all that in the beginning.

How would tariffs which are a tax on the end user, those being US citizens, be paid by Mexico?

Tariffs go to government and put Americans to work like the 1000 will for the new Volkswagen plant.

They are paid by companies exporting to the U.S. Tariffs are not a tax on end users. They are a force for higher prices. Taxes are not optional. Paying higher prices is optional. If the tariffs last long enough, American companies will be Iin a better position to compete with imports. Since sending our wealth abroad is negative for the economy, the entire population will benefit from reduced imports. It is a little more complex than that but I don't usually write long posts. In the end tariffs will protect American businesses. That is why our trading partners use them.

Free trade is a noble goal but we don't have free trade and getting there is a two way street.

Sorry guys, tarrifs are paid for by the end user ultimately. It simply makes imports more expensive to the domestic consumer.

Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter

So how is Mexico paying for the wall through the use of tariffs?

Tariffs, cash to government. It isn’t rocket science for anyone without TDS.

The tariffs are paid by the American importer, you know American citizens, not Mexico! You're right, it's not rocket scientist

I don't think he ever said how or when Mexico would pay for the wall. But it seems to me it is getting more likely that they will, the more trouble the caravans cause in Mexico.

IOW, we're being taxed to pay for it. You think his message would have resonated if trump was honest during the campaign?

The cost is ultimately borne by the consumer--that would be us, not "Mexico".

    Trump is full of ****.

The importer and exporter are usually the same. But I agree with your comment.

The only thing he's said that will remain a constant is "I don't stand by anything."

    Everything else is cow dung.

Without the wall we need to continue to pay $2.5 million dollars a day to give a bed to 50,000+ illegal border crosser detainees per month, not including health care, meals and providing them an attorney for immigration court? Please tell us why we need to do that?

Boy, that's one hell of an assumption that you're making.

    That's no assumption, it's a fact.

That's $7,248,800 just for a bed per day. That's not counting health care, meals or legal fees. $7,248,800 X 365 = $2,645,812,000 per year. They are costing us half of what Trump's asking for a wall PER YEAR not including health care and legal fees.

Umm, no. You're making the assumption that a wall will stop all of these nefarious activities.

    Explain that.
